Ortiz to Compete on the New “Dancing with the Stars” Cycle

He’s mastered a mean southpaw stance during his sparring career… But Victor Ortiz will now have to learn the ropes in ballroom dancing.

The 26-year-old Mexican American boxer, a former WBC Welterweight Champion, signed up to compete in the 16th cycle of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. He’ll be one of 11 celebrities, and the sole Latino, competing this season.

Ortiz, known for his aggressive style, two-fisted power and boyish charm, has been paired with new professional dancer Lindsay Arnold.

Along with Ortiz, the new Dancing with the Stars contestants include Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones, country singers Kellie Pickler and Wynonna Judd, General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher, the Disney Channel’s Shake It Up star Zendaya Coleman, actor/comedian Andy Dick, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump, Olympians Aly Raisman and Dorothy Hamill and comedian D.L. Hughley.

The 16th season of Dancing with the Stars will premiere on ABC on Monday, March 18.

Thorne to “Shake It Up” on the Disney Channel for Another Season

Bella Thorne will be shaking it up on the Disney Channel for another round…

The cable network has ordered a third season of hit dance-driven buddy comedy Shake It Up, starring the 14-year-old part-Cuban American actress.

Following its premiere in November 2010, the series ranked as the No. 1 series among tweens 9-14 in 2011, and for second quarter 2012-to-date, it’s the No. 1 TV series among kids 2-11 (2.0 million/4.9 rating) and kids 6-11 (1.6 million/6.7 rating).

In addition, Shake It Up inspired the Disney Channel’s first-ever talent competition for kids and tweens, Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off – Shake It Up Edition, as well as a successful soundtrack and merchandizing line.

Shake It Up stars Thorne and Zendaya Coleman as best friends CeCe Jones and Rocky Blue, who are living their dreams as dancers on the hit show Shake It Up, Chicago!

New episodes air Sunday at 8:30 PM.

Coming this summer is Shake It Up: Made In Japan, a 90-minute special in which the gang will head to Tokyo after Rocky and CeCe win a chance to star in a dance video game. A sneak peek of the special will air during the Disney Channel original movie Let It Shine on June 15.

The 14-year-old Cuban-American actress is starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie Frenemies.

The made-for-TV movie follows three sets of friends as they try to find a balance when “besties go to worsties, and back again.”

Thorne’s real-life best friend and Shake It Up co-star Zendaya Coleman will play her best friend/frenemy in the film.

Frenemies will be broadcast in 2012.
