Cristian Javier Pinales has claimed a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Games for the Dominican Republic in his Olympic debut.
The 23-year-old Dominican boxer lost his semifinal against Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Oralbay in the Men’s 80KG category 3-2, but will still take home a bronze.
Bronze medals are given to the fighters who make it to the semifinals but don’t win the bout.
Pinales and his compatriot Yunior Alcantara Reyes have given the Dominican Republic their first two medals of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
