Juanpa Zurita to Star in & Executive Produce “Carpe DM with Juanpa” for Roku

Juanpa Zurita is ready to seize the day…

The 27-year-old Mexican social media influencer, vlogger, actor and model will star in and executive produce Carpe DM with Juanpa for Roku.

“Can I fly a jet, ride a bull, jump a Monster Truck? A lot of us have these strange curiosities buried in the back of our minds or saved in our inboxes for later. Yet we do nothing,” reads the show’s synopsis.

Zurita is out to change that.

In each episode of the bilingual series Carpe DM with Juanpa, he will face challenges that push his body and mind to the limit all across the United States. Along the way, Juanpa will show all of us the transformative power of stepping outside your comfort zone and bringing your inner adventurer to life.

The six-episode series is produced by INE Entertainment and ARCO. Eric Day, Mark Koops, and Sarah Davies executive produce for INE. Juanpa Zurita and Brenda Tubilla executive produce for ARCO. Dave Lingwood is also set to executive produce.

Zurita rose to acclaim in 2013 by making comedy videos on the Vine app. Later, he diversified his activities by publishing vlogs and entertainment videos on the YouTube platform, and most recently he started his own water company in the middle of a drought, exploiting the resources of his own country.

He has created various campaigns in favor of humanitarian aid, in one of which he raised 25 million Mexican pesos through donations to make houses to several victims of an earthquake in Mexico City, in September 2017. In 2016, he began modeling for fashion brands including Pull&Bear, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein.

The awards show will not only recognize top urban artists but also artists from other genres—such as tropical, pop and Regional Mexican—who have experimented with the urban realm, across 32 categories.

Nate Diaz to Make Pro Boxing Debut Against Jake Paul This Summer

Nate Diaz is preparing for his first-ever boxing match this summer…

The 37-year-old half-Mexican American professional mixed martial artist and ex-UFC bad boy will fight YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul in a boxing match on August 5 at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

The bout will be contested at 185 pounds and is contracted for eight rounds with 10-ounce gloves. The pay-per-view bout will be distributed globally by DAZN.

The event will be a 50-50 collaboration between Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and Diaz’s Real Fight Inc.

It will be the first time Diaz has ever promoted himself, the first time he’ll fight outside the UFC in 15 years and his first career pro boxing match. Diaz has competed in some of the biggest pay-per-view events in UFC history, and Paul has made a name for himself as a boxing draw despite his experience level.

Diaz and Paul have exchanged trash talk on social media and in interviews over the past 18 months. In October, during a boxing event headlined by Paul and UFC legend Anderson Silva, Diaz’s team and Paul’s team got into an altercation backstage. And Paul challenged Diaz in his post-fight interview after defeating Silva.

Diaz has typically fought in MMA at 155 pounds and more recently at 170 pounds. Paul has fought as heavy as 191.5 pounds as a pro. He weighed in at 183.6 pounds for Fury.

Paul (6-1) lost his first career boxing match in his last bout to Tommy Fury, the brother of heavyweight great Tyson, back in February via split decision. The Ohio native, who trains out of Puerto Rico, is undefeated against MMA fighters, including Silva, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren; he beat the latter two by knockout. Paul, 26, has only been a pro since 2020.

“My last fight didn’t end the way I wanted, but the result was the best thing that could have happened to my professional boxing aspirations,” Paul said in a statement. “Now, the world thinks I am vulnerable, when all I am is more focused than ever. My team wanted me to take an easy fight like KSI next, but that’s not how I am built. Nate Diaz is considered one of the most bad-ass fighters of all time, but he and his team have been running their mouths for too long.”

Diaz (21-13) fought out his UFC contract with a submission win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in September. The Stockton, California, native handed Conor McGregor his first UFC loss back in 2016. Diaz has headlined 10 UFC events and won The Ultimate Fighter 5 tournament in 2007. He’s one of the most popular fighters in MMA history and is a former sparring partner of top boxer Andre Ward.

“Besides Canelo, he’s the biggest thang in boxing,” Diaz said in a statement. “I’m here to conquer that. I’m the King of combat sports and then I’m headed back to get my UFC belts. I f—ed up Conor for acting out and now here I am again, like a Super Hero of the Real Fight game, the King of the Real Fight game.”

Diaz has made it known that he plans on returning to the UFC in the future with a McGregor trilogy fight still on the table down the road. Paul, meanwhile, had talked about a Tommy Fury rematch next or the aforementioned bout with fellow YouTube star KSI. But Paul vs. Diaz was too big of a matchup to pass up.

“Jake’s star power and popularity continue to command massive audiences worldwide,” Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said in a statement. “His most recent bout, Paul vs. Fury, surpassed more than 800,000 pay-per-view purchases and was a commercial success for all our partners. Jake remains one of the most avidly followed fighters in the sport and all eyes are on him, wondering what’s next. Well, what’s next is one of the most vicious men ever in the cage.”

No other fights have been announced for the event, though given the bad blood between the two teams it wouldn’t be surprising to see Paul and Diaz teammates on the undercard.

“Nate’s departure from the UFC made him the most sought-after free agent in combat sports history with all eyes looking to see what his next move would be,” Real Fight Inc. president Zach Rosenfield said in a statement. “In choosing to make his boxing debut against Jake Paul, Nate found an opponent where there is an organic, non-scripted backstory that motivates him and will clearly capture the excitement of audiences throughout the world.”

Arcángel Announces 14-Date “Just In Time Tour” of North America

Arcángel is making time for his fans…

The 37-year-old Dominican American Latin trap star will hit the road this summer for his Just In Time Tour.

The 14-date stint, produced by Live Nation, will kick off on August 26 at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago area, making stops across the U.S. in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and more before wrapping up in Orlando at Amway Center on October 1.

The cross-country tour is preceded by a new album Sr. Santos, which he released late last year, and seven back-to-back nights at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in February, a hard-hitting collaboration with Bizarrap (“BZRP Music Sessions #54”) that he unleashed in March and has nearly 50 million views on YouTube (so far).

Sr. Santos scored Arcangel his sixth top 10 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart when it debuted at No. 3 in December. The set, which includes collaborations with Bad Bunny, Young Miko and Myke Towers, among others, is a tribute to his late brother Justin Santos who died at 21-years-old in 2021.

“Life surprised us with the death of [my brother] so we canceled everything,” Arcángel previously told Billboard Español. “I built up courage and said, ‘since he loved these songs so much, let’s finish it and make and album that will be dedicated to him.’”

In 2021, Arcángel released Los Favoritos 2.5 — a follow up to Los Favoritos 2 from 2020 — which peaked at No. 15 on the Top Latin Albums chart and No. 11 on the Latin Rhythm Albums.

Tickets for his Just In Time Tour will go on sale April 13 at 10:00 a.m.

Erika Ender Sells Song Catalog to Hipgnosis Song Management

Erika Ender is cashing in…

Hipgnosis Song Management has acquired the song catalog of the 48-year-old Panamanian-American singer and songwriter, who co-wrote the 2017 smash hit “Despacito” alongside Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

According to the company, Hipgnosis has acquired a 100% interest in Ender’s publishing copyrights — including the writer’s share of performance — in all songs in her catalogue published, released or utilized through her Sony Music Publishing deal from 2007 through 2019, which includes more than 25 No. 1 songs.

“Despacito,” originally released in January 2017 and later in a bilingual version with Justin Bieber, spearheaded a global Latin movement made possible by streaming. The remix peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — where it ruled for 16 weeks — and spent 56 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart.

To date, the original version has more than 8 billion views on YouTube. It also won three Latin Grammy awards, including song and record of the year. The Bieber-assisted version received nominations for both song and record of the year at the 2018 Grammys.

Ender has also penned songs for other artists like Los Tigres del Norte, Chayanne, Gloria Trevi and Prince Royce.

In 2017, Ender became the youngest person to be inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The amount paid for Ender’s catalog was not disclosed but it further highlights the interest in Latin or Spanish-language music catalogs.

“Erika Ender has defined Latin music for the last 30 years,” Merck Mercuriadis, chief executive and founder of Hipgnosis Song Management, said in a statement. “Her more than 40 Number 1 singles have made her one of the most successful and influential songwriters of all time. Johnny Sibilly Signs with Creative Artists Agency (CAA)

Johnny Sibilly has new representation…

The 35-year-old Cuban & Dominican American actor has signed with Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

Best known for his role as Wilson on the first two seasons of HBO Max’s Emmy-winning comedy series Hacks, Sibilly will return for Season 3 this year.

Sibilly previously starred as Noah Hernandez in the Peacock Original series, Queer As Folk.

He has also appeared opposite CAA client Billy Porter in the FX series Pose, and alongside CAA client Liza Koshy in YouTube’s Liza On Demand.

As a content creator, Sibilly is a fervent advocate for LGBTQ+ and Latino rights, growing a considerable social following as a result of his progressive and comedic voice that includes his popular online character, “Julissa.”

Shakira Shatters 14 Guinness World Records with Bizarrap-Collaboration “BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53”

Guinness World Records has announced that the 46-year-old Colombian superstar, a savage lyricist, shattered several records on Spotify and the Billboard charts with “BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53,” her collaboration with Argentinian DJ Bizarrap.

Among her broken records, “Music Sessions Vol. 53” — the scathing electro-pop banger aimed at her ex-partner Gerard Piqué — became the most-streamed Latin song on Spotify in both a 24-hour and single-week timeframe. The track received 14.4 million streams in a single day, and 80.6 million streams in a week.

“Music Sessions Vol. 53” also broke the record for fastest Latin track to reach 100 million views on YouTube after reaching the number in approximately 70 hours and broke the record for most views in 24 hours with 63 million in a single day on YouTube.

With the song, Shakira also became the first female vocalist to debut in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with a Spanish song, and the first female to replace herself at No. 1 on the Billboard Latin Airplay charts.

The song also helped Shakira break the record of Most Top 10 hits on both Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and Latin Airplay charts by a female artist. Other accolades include swooping the record for most Billboard charts topped by a Spanish-language song by a female artist and Most No. 1 hits on the Latin Airplay, Latin Pop Airplay, and Latin Digital Song Sales charts.

To date, the song has more than 403 million streams on Spotify, while the track’s music video has garnered over 410 million views on YouTube. Since the Bizarrap collab, Shakira has joined Karol G on “TQG” from her Colombian compatriot’s album Mañana Será Bonito, a track that is an insta-hit globally.

One of Bunny’s earliest hits, the 2016 trap anthem “Soy Peor,” was one of the songs that helped put him on the map. The track — produced by the artist himself — peaked at No. 19 on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart.

The official visual for the song is Bunny’s tenth video as lead, featured artist, or collaborator to achieve this milestone.

Elsewhere on YouTube, the chart-topping artist also has presence on the platform’s U.S. Top Songs chart thanks to the swooning “Ojitos Lindos” video, which rises to No. 25 as “Titi Me Preguntó” takes No. 4 and his collaboration with Arcángel “La Jumpa” comes in at No. 81.

Bad Bunny takes No. 2 on U.S. Top Artists and No. 5 on Global Top Artists.

Since “Soy Peor,” Bunny has catapulted to global success with albums YHLQMDLG, Las Que No Iban a Salir, El Último Tour del Mundo and Un Verano Sin Ti.

The latter two of those debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making him the only artist to top the tally with a Spanish-language album — not once, but twice.

Most recently, Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti won the IFPI Global Album Award, becoming the first Latin artist to ever win an IFPI global award, according to the organization. The set spent a total of 13 non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 and became the first Spanish-language album to be nominated for album of the year at the Grammy Awards.

Aubrey Plaza Earns First-Ever SAG Awards “Actor” Trophy with Cast Mates for “The White Lotus”

Life’s a SAG for Aubrey Plaza…

The Screen Actors Guild handed out SAG Awards trophies this Sunday, with the 38-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress/comedian earning her first-ever honor from the acting organization.

Plaza, a first-time SAG Award nominee this year, and her fellow The White Lotus cast mates won the Drama Series Ensemble award.

Plaza, appearing in the show’s second season, portrayed Harper Spiller on the acclaimed series. She’s previous earned her first Golden Globes nod for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film for her role on the second season.

Streaming live for the first time on Netflix‘s YouTube channel, the 2023 SAG Awards doled out trophies (known as the Actor) to the performers who most impressed in movies and television series over the last year.

The SAG Awards are voted on by the 120,000-plus members of SAG-AFTRA. The ceremony also paid special tribute to Sally Field, who was given the SAG Life Achievement Award.

Arturo Luís Soria Earns Obie Award for Performance in “Ni Mi Madre”

Arturo Luís Soria has landed the mother of all honors…

The Brazilian, Ecuadorian and Dominican American actor is among the recipients of the 66th Obie Awards, which honor Off and Off-Off Broadway productions.

Soria will be recognized for his performance in Ni Mi Madre, which he performed at the downtown theatre company Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.

Soria stars in his solo show about the stormy relationship between a Brazilian woman and her queer son. Steeped in the tradition of Umbanda ritual, and featuring the music of Gloria Estefan, Cher and Maria Bethânia, Ni Mi Madre examines themes of family, citizenship and identity as a queer Latino.

The play, which began as an improvisational one act, was developed into a full-length presentation through the partnership of Rattlestick Directing Fellow Danilo Gambini.

Presented by the American Theatre Wing, the Obies will be handed out Monday evening in a ceremony at Manhattan’s Terminal 5 venue. Sustained and Lifetime Achievement winners will accept their awards during the ceremony, while remarks of all other winners will premiere on the American Theatre Wing’s YouTube channel.

“For this OBIES, the judges reviewed over 400 productions over the last three seasons including digital and audio works made during the pandemic,” said Heather Hitchens, President & CEO, in a statement. “We look forward to finally gathering in person to celebrate the artistic excellence and resilience of the amazing artists and theatre companies that make up the Off- and Off-Off- Broadway community.”
