Christina Aguilera Releases New Spanish EP “La Tormenta”

Christina Aguilera is embracing the torment

The 41-year-old half-Ecuadorian American Grammy-winning singer has released her new EP La Tormenta.

Christina AguileraAguilera has postponed the release of the five-track production, which includes her highly anticipated collaboration with Tini, “Sueltame,” following the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

The follow-up to Aguilera’s six-track EP La Fuerza, released in January, the new EP is home to tracks that not only continue to showcase Xtina’s powerful vocals singing in Spanish, but also her experimental ability to tap into reggaeton and other Latin rhythmic melodies while maintaining her pop essence.

“Sueltame” marks the EP’s focus single alongside Argentine pop star, Tini, a sultry tango-meets-urban collaboration where the lady takes matters into her own hands.

“If you want to kiss me, kiss me/ If you want to touch me, touch me/ But this only lasts until the morning/ If you want me to come back, let me go,” goes part of the lyrics.

The release of La Tormenta was postponed to respect those who lost their lives in the senseless mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

“I will be postponing the release of my new music as we mourn with the community of Uvalde,” Aguilera wrote via her Instagram Story on Thursday, May 26. “My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of the children and educators affected by this tragedy. I urge our leaders to make immediate changes on laws around gun control.”

Both La Tormenta and La Fuerza mark Xtina’s first Spanish effort in more than 20 years since Mi Reflejo, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart in 2000.

With La Fuerza, Aguilera returned to Billboard’s Latin album charts with its No. 1 debut on the Latin Pop Albums chart dated February 5.

Christina Aguilera Shares Snippet of Latin-Tinged Music for Potential Second Spanish-Language Album

Christina Aguilera could be embracing her Latin roots musically once again…

On Sunday, the 40-year-old half-Ecuadorian American Grammy-winning singer posted a 15-second snippet on her social media accounts, which followed two identical-looking women entering a party over some sultry-sounding strings.

Christina Aguilera

Based on the comments from her Instagram post, Victoria Villarroel, Kylie Jenner’s former assistant, and her sister Sofia, with whom she founded the Gonza swimwear brand, might be the two female leads in the visual.

The two sisters also reposted Aguilera’s video on their respective IG Stories.

In April, Xtina revealed that she was working on her “overdue” second Spanish-language album more than two decades after 2000’s Mi Reflejo, which peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard 200 and ruled the Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts.

“It’s a big deal right now and it’s really nostalgic and part of my Latin culture and history,” she told Billboard in an interview in July. “So this is really, really fun to get into some family roots and explore who I am now as a woman musically. Things are coming from a different approach.”

Released on June 4, 2010, Bionic served as Aguilera’s sixth full-length studio set, and marked a pivot into the realm of brash, sex-positive electro-pop for the singer following the big band-inspired throwback sound of 2006’s critically-acclaimed Back to Basics

The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and was preceded by the lead single “Not Myself Tonight” and the raunchy Nicki Minaj-assisted “Woohoo.”

Christina Aguilera Bionic

Bionicis also notable for being the first mainstream pop album featuring songwriting credits from a then-little-known Sia, who penned third single “You Lost Me,” album cuts “All I Need,” “I Am” and bonus track “Stronger Than Ever,” and went on to work with Aguilera again on the Burlesque soundtrack later that year.

Aguilera previously dropped a surprise for the album’s anniversary earlier this month, making bonus track Little Dreamer— previously available only on the iTunes deluxe edition — available for the first time on streaming platforms.)

Although the album was met with mixed reviews and underwhelming sales back in 2010, Bionichas since gained a legacy among Aguilera’s fan base as being ahead of its time, and occupies the coveted place within her discography as an underrated fan favorite release worthy of regular calls of #JusticeForBionic across social media.

Christina Aguilerais bracing for a fall

The 39-year-old half-Ecuadorian American singer and pop duo A Great Big World have released the official music video for their latest collaboration, “Fall On Me,” which features Xtina as the Queen of Spring.

Christina Aguilera & A Great Big World

The video begins with A Great Big World(Ian Axeland Chad King) entering a winter wonderland where a piano sits next to a tree as snow falls. Flowers begin to bloom, and once Aguilera’s verse hits, suddenly the setting becomes draped in blossoms as spring sets in.

The tree at the video’s centerpiece is a metaphor for the continuous cycle of life, as director Se Ohwanted to convey the journey of love through the life cycle of a tree — a beautiful depiction of the search for connection and love in the song.

“Moving through the seasons with this tree captures the interconnectedness of all things and how in time everything finds its balance and order,” A Great Big World added in an Instagram post with a clip of the visual.

A Great Big World also shared a heartfelt note to Aguilera in their post, writing, “@xtina, thanks for creating magic with us again. Truly one of the highlights of our lives.”

Aguilera and A Great Big World first debuted “Fall On Me” with a breathtaking performance at the 2019 American Music Awardsin November.

It’s the trio’s second team-up since their Grammy-winning 2013 hit “Say Something.”
