Kehlani to Release Fourth Studio Album, “Crash,” in Late June

The 29-year-old part-Mexican American singer-songwriter and R&B superstar has revealed plans to release her fourth studio album, Crash, on June 21.

Less than 24 hours after the Grammy-nominated artist teased the LP’s title with a bevy of crash-related tweets, they also revealed the incredibly intricate album artwork on social media, which features them sitting atop a demolished red car while their legs are covered in a metallic, almost mermaid tail-like apparatus.

Kehlani (real name Kehlani Ashley Parrish) dropped “After Hours” as the first single from Crash in April, and the record — which samples Cordel “Scatta” Burrell’s “Coolie Dance Riddim” and was produced by Khris Riddick-Tynes and Alex Goldblatt.

It reached No. 14 on Rhythmic Airplay and No. 40 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Kehlani released the “After Hours” music video last week, which was set in Las Vegas. She teased a 30-second snippet of her upcoming single “Next 2 U” last week. “when y’all want it,” Kehlani wrote on Instagram and X.

Crash comes two years after her third album, Blue Water Road, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 8 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.

Prior to Blue Water Road, Kehlani dropped their Billboard 200 No. 2 sophomore album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t in 2020 — which is their highest charting album to date — and their debut album SweetSexySavage in 2017. She’s also previously dropped three mixtapes: Cloud 19 (2014), You Should Be Here (2015) and While We Wait (2019).

Rauw Alejandro Teams Up with Sky Rompiendo to Release Electronic Track “Espectacular”

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican singer and songwriter has released “Espectacular,” his fiery collaboration with Sky Rompiendo.

Sky Rompiendo released the electronic track, which features Rauw singing about a sexy pole dancer who “looks spectacular,” as the song title suggests.

In an accompanying video, the duo is seen among a group of blurred-out dancers and bikini-clad women dancing around a glowing pole.

“Today I think one of my favorite songs this year comes out ,” Rauw Alejandro wrote on X/Twitter on Thursday. “THIS SONG WOOW,” Rauw added in a previous post.

As for Sky Rompiendo, the Colombian producer has been sharing snippets of the song on his TikTok, including one of himself producing the track earlier this week.

Last month, he also shared a blurry photo of himself in the studio, writing, “This can be taken as an unofficial first warning” about the track.

Myke Towers Earns 11th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “La Falda”

Myke Towers has skirted his way to the top of the charts…

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican rapper, singer and songwriter has pounced to No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart as “La Falda” rises from No. 5 to lead the list dated February 24.

The song, announced on Towers’ X account in November, is the focus track from his 23-song album LVEU: Vive La Tuya… No La Mía, which debuted and peaked at No. 9 on Top Latin Albums on the December 9-dated list.

With the new leader, Towers collects his 11th Latin Airplay No. 1 and second in 2024, after the Yandel collab, “Borracho y Loco” (February 17 chart).

“La Falda” likewise ascends to No. 1 on Latin Rhythm Airplay, securing Towers an 11th champ there as well.

For the tracking week February 9-15, “La Falda” registered 10.54 million audience impressions in the U.S., up 47% from the week prior, according to Luminate, and takes the Greatest Gainer honors.

Towers’ run of Latin Airplay No. 1s began just a little more than three years ago, when “Caramelo,” with Ozuna and Karol G, peaked at No. 1 in late 2020, where it remained for three weeks.

“La Falda” rises to new peaks on both Global charts as well. It lifts 85-75 on Billboard Global 200, powered largely by with 24 million worldwide streams. Meanwhile, it pushes 56-47 on Global Excl. U.S. supported in great part by 20 million clicks outside the U.S.

Shakira Honored with 20-Foot Bronze Statue in Her Colombian Hometown

Shakira has been immortalized in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia..

City officials have unveiled a giant bronze statue of the 46-year-old Colombian superstar known around the world for her catchy tunes and exhilarating moves.

The 20-foot-tall monument depicts the multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy winner in one of her famous belly-dancing outfits, with her hips swaying to her right and her arms raised gracefully toward the sky.

A plaque under the statue says that on February 2, 1977, the town of “Barranquilla and the world witnessed the birth of a heart that composes, hips that don’t lie, a voice that moves masses and a pair of bare feet that walk for the good of children and humanity.”

The statue, located on a recently built promenade along the Magdalena River that runs along the edge of the town, was unveiled in a small ceremony on Tuesday attended by Shakira’s parents and the mayor, Jaime Pumarejo.

However, the bronze giant is not the Caribbean town’s first Shakira statue. In 2006, Barranquilla unveiled a Shakira monument that depicts the pop star in her early days, playing an acoustic guitar and wearing jeans and boots. That statues stands near the entrance of the local soccer stadium.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Shakira gave thanks to sculptor Yino Marquez and his students at Barranquilla’s public art academy for the latest statue, which she described as proof of the “enormous talent” of Barranquilla’s citizens.

Shakira won three Latin Grammys earlier this year, and also made headlines in January, when she and Bizarrap collaborated on “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” a fiery rap song about Shakira’s ex-partner Gerard Pique that broke YouTube records.

She also settled a tax-fraud case in Spain with a $7.5 million dollar payment this year, and recently moved to Miami with her two children.

Demi Lovato’s Clean-Bandit Collaboration “Solo” Joins YouTube’s Billion Views Club

Demi Lovato has a billion reasons to celebrate…

The 31-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer and Clean Bandit’s five-year-old duet “Solo” has become the newest member of YouTube’s Billion Views Club.

The electronic dance track’s music video has been watched more than one billion times on the video platform since it was uploaded in May 2018.

The wide-lens project finds Lovato, whose vocals are featured on the song, singing to the camera in between shots of Clean Bandit’s Jack and Luke Patterson cooking up a mysterious drug in a basement lab underneath a laundromat.

At the end, a patron played by Clean Bandit’s Grace Chatto tests out the drug on her boyfriend — who promptly turns into a rainbow-colored dog.

“Since you been gone/ I’ve been dancing on my own,” Lovato sings. “There’s boys up in my zone/ But they can’t turn me on.”

“Solo” bowed at No. 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 about a month after it first debuted on the chart in July 2018. It was also that year’s most searched song on Shazam, with Nicky Jam and J Balvin’s “X” and Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s “One Kiss” following close behind in second and third place.

The song soared to No. 48 on the Streaming Songs chart in August 2018, showing 14 percent streaming gains that month. Shortly prior to the spike, Lovato was hospitalized due to a near-fatal overdose.

The “Cool for the Summer” singer is currently gearing up to release A Very Demi Holiday Special on Roku. The December 8 program will feature live performances from Lovato as well as guest appearances from Paris Hilton, Tiffany Haddish and Trixie Mattell.

The 31-year-old half-Dominican American Grammy-winning rap superstar is joining forces with Patti LaBelle to get people into the holiday spirit with a sweet collaboration.

Cardi B and LaBelle have combined their dessert brands — Whipshots (Cardi B’s vodka-infused whipped cream) and Good Life pies (LaBelle’s pie brand) — for some boozy desserts that’ll add some spice to your Thanksgiving celebrations and beyond.

The two stars are appealing to your sweet tooth through a social media campaign that kicked off on Thursday, November 9. In a minute-and-a-half video, the Grammy-winning artists share holiday traditions while mixing the flavors of their desserts to create some iconic pairings.

“Let’s do pumpkin,” Cardi B tells LaBelle in a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) as she picks up a can of her Pumpkin Spice Whipshots to top LaBelle’s sweet potato pie. “Pumpkin for sweet potato?” the Godmother of Soul questioned. The “Bongos” rapper reassures her by saying, “They make love together — you gotta trust me.”

Roberto Carballes Baena Upsets No. 4 Seed Holger Rune in First Round of US Open

The 30-year-old Spanish tennis player, ranked No. 63 in the world, downed No. 4 seed Holger Rune 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, on Monday at Flushing Meadows for his first-ever victory over a top-10 player.

Rune, a 20-year-old Dane who cracked the top 5 after reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open and Wimbledon, had complained before the match about being assigned to one of the outer courts, sarcastically posting a map of Flushing Meadows on X, formerly known as Twitter, to help his fans find it.

“I just didn’t expect to play on that court,” Rune said afterward. “That’s obviously disappointing but not going to blame the court on the loss.”

Rune suffered early exits from tuneup events in Toronto and Cincinnati and there were early signs of trouble on Monday as he failed to earn a break point in the first set.

Carballes Baena converted on break point chances in the fifth and ninth games, but his serve lost its firepower in the second set, when Rune finally broke in the third game.

Carballes Baena, who won in Marrakech earlier this year, cleaned up his act in the third set, when he broke Rune to love in the eighth game, and had clear control over the match in the fourth set, when he dropped only a single first-serve point.

The tournament lasts two weeks and wraps up with the women’s singles final on September 9, and the men’s singles final on September 10.

Selena Gomez Tops Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart with “Single Soon” Teaser

The 31-year-old Mexican American actress/singer’s upcoming new song “Single Soon” debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart, powered by X, dated August 26.

Billboard’s Hot Trending charts track global music-related trends and conversations in real-time across X, viewable over either the last 24 hours or past seven days.

A weekly, 20-position version of the chart, covering activity from Friday through Thursday of each week, posts alongside Billboard’s other weekly charts on Billboard.com each Tuesday, with the latest tracking period running August 11-17.

“Single Soon” has a release date of August 25 but was announced with an X post on August 17.

“Since I’m not quite done with SG3 [Gomez’s upcoming album], I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer,” she wrote.

Edinson Cavani Signs 18-Month Contract with Argentina’s Boca Juniors

The 36-year-old Uruguayan professional soccer player has joined Boca Juniors following the termination of his contract with LaLiga side Valencia, the Argentine club has revealed.

Cavani has signed an 18-month contract, with Boca requesting additional time from the Argentine FA to register the forward for the Copa Libertadores round of 16, said local media.

“Happy to have you home,” the Buenos Aires-based club wrote on X social media, formerly known as Twitter, along with a video welcoming the well-traveled player.

Cavani, who began his career with Uruguay’s Danubio, moved to Europe in 2007 when he joined Palermo. After four seasons he switched to Napoli, where he scored 104 goals in 138 games and won the Coppa Italia.

In 2013, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain, where he played for seven years, becoming the club’s all-time top scorer — a record he held until last season when French forward Kylian Mbappé surpassed him by scoring 212 goals in all competitions.

He won six Ligue 1 titles, five French Cups and six League Cups in Paris plus a runners-up medal in the Champions League.

Cavani joined Manchester United in 2020 before moving to Valencia on a free transfer two years later. The Spanish club agreed earlier on Saturday to mutually terminate the striker’s contract, which was due to expire next year.

Cavani has made 136 appearances and netted 58 goals for Uruguay to become their second-top scorer behind Luis Suarez. He helped his country win the 2011 Copa America title.

Bobby Cannavale to Star in A24’s Horror Film “MaXXXine”

Bobby Cannavale is Maxxximizing his time…

The 52-year-old half-Cuban American actor will star in Ti West’s Mia Goth-led A24 horror film MaXXXine.

Cannavale joins an all-star cast that includes Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.

MaXXXine is the third title in A24’s first major horror franchise, on the heels of West’s films X and Pearl, both of which were released to much acclaim last year.

The ’70s-set X had Goth pulling double duty as Maxine, who sees her pornography-shooting friends violently murdered in Texas, and one of their elderly assailants, Pearl. The latter film, set in 1918, meanwhile, served up an origin story for the latter villain character.

MaXXXine reverses the franchise’s trajectory through time to pick with Maxine after the violent events of X, as their sole survivor continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.

The film heads into production this month.

Two-time Emmy winner Cannavale stars opposite Naomi Watts in Ryan Murphy’s hit Netflix series The Watcher, which has been renewed for a second season.

His other notable television credits include Nine Perfect Strangers, Homecoming, Mr. Robot, Angie Tribeca, Will & Grace, Vinyl and Nurse Jackie.

The actor recently appearing in films like Blonde will also soon be seen in comedian Bill Burr’s directorial debut Old Dads, Tony Goldwyn’s comedy Inappropriate Behavior and more.
