Alfonso G. Aguilar Wins Public Choice Award for “Klaus” at World Soundtrack Awards

The 20th annual World Soundtrack Awards have been doled out, with the 35-year-old Spanish film score composer taking home a trophy.

Aguilar won the Public Choice Award for composing the music to Netflix’s animated holiday film Klaus, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.

Sanchez Earns Two World Soundtrack Awards for Composing the Music for “Birdman”

The 43-year-old Mexican jazz drummer and composer took home two awards on Saturday at the 15th World Soundtrack Awards which served as the finale to the 42nd Film Fest Ghent in Belgium.

Sanchez, a Critics Choice Movie Award winner earlier this year, was named Discovery of the Year 2015 for composing the music for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Oscar-winning film Birdman.

He also picked up the award for Best Original Film Score of the Year for Birdman.

Sanchez’s work also earned him the nomination for 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, a nomination for the 2015 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), and other nominations.

Meanwhile, the honor for the year’s Best Original Song written directly for a movie went to “The Apology Song” from The Book of Life, with music by Gustavo Santaolalla, lyrics by Paul Williams and performed by Diego Luna.

Iglesias Earns Composer Prize at the European Film Awards

The awards continue to mount for Alberto Iglesias

The 57-year-old Spanish composer claimed the best composer prize at the European Film Awards on Saturday, as the European Film Academy celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Iglesias, the big winner at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards, earned the award for his critically acclaimed work on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Iglesias Named Film Composer of the Year at World Soundtrack Awards

Alberto Iglesias is still reaping the rewards for his composing work on three of last year’s highly acclaimed films.

The 57-year-old Spanish composer was named film composer of the year at the World Soundtrack Awards.

Iglesias, who received an invitation this summer to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was heralded for his work on the soundtracks for Le Moine (The Monk), The Skin I Live In and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy.

In addition, the academy also awarded Iglesias with the award for best original film score of the year for Tinker, Tailor.

Iglesias defeated fellow Latino nominee Cliff Martinez, who served as the composer on the films Contagion and Drive, in both categories.

Iglesias previously received the Hollywood Film Composer Award at the 15th annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards for his work on Pedro Almodóvar’s haunting The Skin I Live In and Tomas Alfredson’s Cold War thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy.

The World Soundtrack Awards took place on Sunday, October 21, as the closing event of the 39th Ghent Film Festival.
