Daddy Yankee Earns Eighth No. 1 of the Year on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “Que Tire Pa Lante”

Make that eight in a row for Daddy Yankee

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican rapper/singer nabs his eighth straight No. 1 of the year, and 18th overall, on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart dated December 21 as “Que Tire Pa Lante” hits No. 1 in its eighth week on the list.

The dancehall uptempo reggaetón track, released October 18, adds to the list of now 18 leaders on the chart for Daddy Yankee, which dates back to 2005 when the 15-week ruler “Rompe” arrived at No. 1 in its fourth week.

Daddy Yankee now ties with J Balvinfor the second-most leaders on the Latin Airplay chart, which began in 1994, both with 18, trailing only Enrique Iglesiaswho continues at the helm with 30.

“Que Tire Pa Lante,” which features uncredited cameos by Anuel AADarellNatti NatashaWisin and Lennox, leads through a 28% boost in audience impressions (to 9.4 million) in the week ending December 15, according to Nielsen Music.

With “Que Tire Pa Lante” at the helm Daddy Yankee rises to 64 weeks in the penthouse for his Latin Airplay chart career, the third and only urban act with the most weeks at the summit, behind Latin pop acts Iglesias (160) and Shakira (68).

The 34-year-oldColombian reggaeton singerhas nabbed his 15th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with his collaboration with Bad Bunny, “Que Pretendes.”

J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s singerlifts 2-1 on the chart dated August 10. 

It’s the first single off their collaborative eight-track album, Oasis (released June 28), advances with 13.8 million audience impressions (up 35%) earned in the week ending August 4, according to Nielsen Music.

J Balvin breaks away from a four-way tie with Carlos VivesShakira, and Wisin who have each claimed 14 No. 1s thus far. J Balvin now places as the act with the third-most leaders in the chart’s history which began in 1994. Bad Bunny, meanwhile, claims his sixth.

Beyond the “Que Pretendes” coronation, each act has nabbed two other No. 1s in 2019. J Balvin claimed his first No. 1 of the year when “Reggaeton” hit the top in its 13th week (chart dated April 6). His collaboration on Ozuna’s remix, “Baila Baila Baila,” alongside Daddy YankeeFarruko and Anuel AA, secured a spot atop the list just a little over a month after.

Bad Bunny’s “Soltera,” with Lunayand Daddy Yankee arrived at No. 1 on the July 13-dated tally (a two-week reign), while “Callaita,” with compatriot producer Tainy, landed at the summit last week (Aug. 3-dated list).

Alejandro Sanz is golden…

The 50-year-old Spanish singer’s collaboration with Camila Cabello, “Mi Persona Favorita,” has been certified gold in the U.S. and Puerto Rico by the RIAA.

The flamenco pop ballad is part of Sanz’s latest album #ElDisco, and it carries a positive message by highlighting all of the beautiful qualities a person has.

Sanz and Cabello released the track on March 28. The song has reached No. 1 in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama.

On August 28, Sanz will be kicking off his #LaGiratour in Chicago which is set to visit 15 cities including two shows in Miami, FL.

Today, RIAA also handed out certifications to works by several Latin acts, including Marc Anthonywith his album OpusGuaynaa’s “Rebota,” and “Si Me Das Tu Amor” by Carlos Vivesand Wisin

Leslie Grace to Headline the Fiesta de la Flor, Honoring Selena Quintanilla

The Fiesta de la Flor festival, which is dedicated to celebrating the life and music of Selena Quintanilla, returns for its fifth year to the late Tejano singer’s hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas.

The 24-year-old Dominican American singer/songwriter has been announced as the headliner of the second day, where she’ll be joined onstage by many special guests, including FarinaLuis Coronel and Noriel, to sing some of her hit singles.

Grace will also be joined by Texas-based producers Play-N-Skillz, who together with Wisin and Frankie J dropped a fresh cover of Selena’s “Si Una Vez” in 2016.

“Headlining Fiesta de la Flor will be such a full circle moment for me because, in a way, I’ll be able to officially say thank you [to Selena] for showing me, and so many like me, that our dreams are valid and worth fighting for by simply being who we are,” Grace said in a statement.

Fiesta de la Flor will take place April 12 and 13 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

J Balvin Leads Pack of Heat Latin Music Awards Nominees

HTV has announced the nominees for the Heat Latin Music Awards 2019, with the 33-year-old Colombian urban singer leading the list of nominated artists with five nods.

J Balvin is nominated in the Best Male Artist and Best Urban Artist categories, Meanwhile, his “Machika” track with Jeon and Anitta earned nods for Best Video and Best Collaboration, where he’ll compete against himself after a earning a second nod in the category for appearing on Bad Bunny’s “Sensualidad” single alongside Prince Royce.

Ozuna earned four nominations.

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin Trap singer is nominated for Best Male Artist and Best Urban Artist, while his Reik & Wisin collaboration “Me Niego” and Natti Natasha collab “Criminal” are both up for Best Collaboration.

Sebastián Yatra also has four nods…

The 24-year-old Colombian singer and songwriter is up for Best Male Artist and Best Pop Artist; his single “Por Perro,” featuring Luis Figueroa and Lary Over, is nominated for Best Video; and his single with Carlos Vives, “Robarte Un Beso” earned a nod in the Best Collaboration category.

Meanwhile, Greeicy, Karol G and Anitta have tied for the most nominations for a female artist with three each.

The 26-year-old Colombian actress and singer, whose full name is Greeicy Rendon, is up for Best Female Artist and Best New Artist, while her single “Amantes” with Mike Bahia is nominated in the Best Collaboration category.

Karol G is nominated for Best Female Artist, and she’s the only female up for Best Urban Artist. The 27-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer and songwriter’s clip for her single “Pineapple” is nominated for Best Video.

Anitta has earned a nod in the Best Female Artist, while her collaboration with J Balvin and Jeon, “Machika” is up for Best Video and Best Collaboration.

The Heat Latin Music Awards are made in Latin American territory with a large component of popular voting, which aims to become a milestone in the music industry by awarding the main stars of Latin music.

Heat Latin Music Awards will broadcast live on May 13 from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana.

Maluma to Receive Extraordinary Evolution Award at the Latin American Music Awards

The 24-year-old Colombian superstar is set to receive the Extraordinary Evolution Award at this year’s Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAs), Telemundo has announced.

Maluma is also confirmed to perform at the fourth annual show to be held from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, on October 25.

Maluma has placed 24 songs on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart, nine of which went to No. 1: “Borro Cassette” (2015), “El Perdedor” featuring Yandel (2016), “Sin Contrato” that featured a version with Fifth Harmony and another with Don Omar & Wisin (2017), “Vente Pa’ Ca” by Ricky Martin featuring Maluma (2016), Shakira’s “Chantaje” featuring Maluma (2016), “Felices los 4” (2017), “Corazón” with Nego do Borel (2018), “El Préstamo” (2018, leading for 2 weeks), and “El Clavo” by Prince Royce featuring Maluma (Sept. 1, 2018).

Carlos Vives Earns 14th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “Hoy Tengo Tiempo (Pinta Sensual)”

The 57-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actor leads Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with “Hoy Tengo Tiempo (Pinta Sensual)” as the song rises 10-1 on the chart dated September 22.

It catapults to the No. 1 spot with a 51 percent gain in audience impressions to 13.5 million in the week ending September 16, according to Nielsen Music.

It’s Vives’ 14th No. 1 on the chart, dating back to “Fruta Fresca,” which jumped to No. 1 on the January 8, 2000-dated chart, reigning for six weeks. He now ties Romeo Santos and Wisin for the third-most No. 1s, trailing only Enrique Iglesias with 30 and Ricky Martin with 17.

“We aim at making songs which reach people’s hearts, not really thinking about rankings,” Vives says. “It will always be a nice surprise to be No. 1 on Billboard.Thank you, all.”

“Hoy Tengo Tiempo” is Vives’ second leader of the year. It follows “Robarte Un Beso,” his collaboration with Sebastian Yatra, which led for one week (January 13).

Concurrently, “Hoy Tengo Tiempo” continues to lead the Tropical Song sairplay chart for a fourth consecutive week.

Ozuna & J Balvin Lead the Pack of Latin American Music Awards Nominees with Nine Each

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer and the 33-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer lead the list of nominees for the 2018 Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAs) with nine nods each.

Close behind is Nicky Jam with eight nods; Daddy Yankee with six; Bad Bunny, Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga and Christian Nodal with five; and Luis Fonsi, Maluma, Romeo Santos, Shakira and Wisin with four nods each.

In the tradition of the American Music Awards (AMAs), the Latin AMAs pay tribute to the top Latin artists in the market today with fans voting for the ultimate winners.

In terms of nominations, 10 artists are up for artist of the year: Bad Bunny, Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga, Christian Nodal, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Luis Fonsi, Maluma, Nicky Jam, Ozuna and Shakira.

Ozuna and Balvin are also both up for favorite artist-male, favorite artist, urban and favorite album-urban and album of the year for Odisea and Vibras, respectively. In addition, Ozuna is up for song of the year and favorite song-urban for “Escápate Conmigo,” his hit with Wisin. “Me Niego,” by Reik featuring Ozuna and Wisin is up for favorite song –pop, and “Sobredosis,” by Romeo Santos featuring Ozuna is up for favorite song – tropical.

On his end, Balvin’s “Mi Gente” with Willy William featuring Beyonce is up for song of the year and favorite song-urban, while “X” by J Balvin with Nicky Jam is up for song of the year and favorite song-urban.

This year’s new artist of the year category is particularly competitive, with Bad Bunny, Manuel Turizo, Raymix and Sebastian Yatra vying for the award.

The Latin AMAs honors artists in pop/rock, regional Mexican, urban, and tropical genres. Nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including sales, airplay, streaming and social activity tracked by Billboard through its data partners Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound for data covering the periods of Aug. 11, 2017 through Aug. 9, 2018. Winners are decided by fan votes.

The Latin AMAs are scheduled to air live October 25 on Telemundo from The Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Carlos Vives Added to Coaching Lineup of Telemundo’s “La Voz”

The 57-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actorhas been confirmed as the fourth superstar to join the coaching lineup for Telemundo’s La Voz.

Vives, a legend of vallenato music, completes the panel of coaches that includes Luis Fonsi, Alejandra Guzmánand Wisin.

“I feel very proud to be part of this first season accompanied by great friends and colleagues,” said Vives. “Together we will go in search of that unique voice that will captivate the audience across the United States and Puerto Rico, with the hope that this great voice will be born in Team Vives.”

La Vozis a production of Telemundo, Talpa Media USA Inc.and Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television.

The show will premiere at the beginning of 2019.

Ricky Martin to Receive Special Honor at the Gala Vanguard Awards

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican superstar will be honored at the 49th anniversary Gala Vanguard Awards, held annually by the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

The charity event honors Los Angeles-based leaders and influencers for their LGBT advocacy. Previous recipients of the Vanguard Awards include the likes of Miley Cyrus, Jane Fonda, Elton John, George and Brad Takei, and Wanda Sykes.

The 49th anniversary Gala Vanguard Awards will take place on September 22 at the Beverly Hilton.

Other 2018 honorees include Arrow and Supergirl showrunner Greg Berlanti; Berlanti’s partner, producer and retired soccer player Robbie Rogers; and philanthropist Ariadne Getty.

Martin released the Wisin and Yandel-featuring “Fiebre” and starred in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story earlier this year.
