J Alvarez to Perform at the Calibash Festival in January

J Alvarez is bringing his preguntas to Southern California…

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican reggaetón artist and “La Pregunta” singer will perform at the Calibash festival, which is set for January 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

This year’s lineup includes PitbullDon Omar, Carlos Vives, Tego Calderon, WisinPlan BFarruko3BallMTYGente de Zona and Maluma.

The lineup joins some of the most established Latin music acts with a strong representation of emerging artists who have become familiar names on the charts, including Alvarez, Farruko (“Passion Wine”), and Gente de Zona (“Bailando”).

The festival should be a magnet for the bilingual young Latino crowd.

Calibash, billed as “the leading urban Latin music festival in the world,” is presented by SBS Entertainment, AEG Live and Mega 96.3 FM. The latest edition of the 7-year-old festival was previously scheduled to take place on Nov. 22.

SBS moved the Calibash date ahead when iHeartMedia launched its own Latin mega concert, the iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina, on that same November date.

Pitbull to Perform at the Latin Grammys with Carlos Santana

Pitbull is set to join forces with a music legend at this year’s Latin Grammys

The 33-year-old Cuban American singer and Carlos Santana will perform live onstage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas during the annual awards broadcast.

No word yet on what song(s) Pitbull and the 67-year-old Mexican musician, considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, will perform.

In addition to his performance with Santana, Mr. Worldwide will also take the stage with Wisin and Chris Brown.

Other pairings for this year’s Latin Grammys include Magic! with Marc Anthony, and Regional Mexican star Pepe Aguilar and Spanish pop icon Miguel Bose.

Also set to perform together are: Pablo Alborán with Jesse & Joy, Marc Anthony in anther performance, this time with Carlos Vives; Rubén Blades with Carlos Franzetti, Camila with Ricky Martin, La Arrolladora Banda El Limón De René Camacho with Espinoza Paz, La Original Banda El Limón De Salvador Lizárraga with Río Roma, Carlos Vives with ChocQuibTown, and Yandel with General Gadiel and Farruko. A Best New Artist nominees medley will feature Aneeka, Pablo López and Mariana Vega.

The show will also feature performances by leading nominees Calle 13, Juanes, J Balvin, Person of the Year Joan Manuel Serrat and other stars.

Meanwhile, Enrique Iglesias, Descemer Bueno and Gente De Zona will perform their massive hit song “Bailando” live from Europe, where they are currently on tour.

A total of twenty performances are scheduled for the fifteenth Latin Grammy Awards, which will be broadcast live on Univision on November 20 at 8:00 pm ET.

Confirmed to present awards are current nominees Jorge Drexler and Prince Royce; as well as actor Daniel Arenas, actress Eiza Gonzalez, Latin Grammy winner Natalia Jiménez, singer/songwriter Joaquin Sabina, and actress Roselyn Sanchez.

Reyes’ “Muévelo” (feat. Wisin) Bubbling Under on Billboard’s Latin Pop Songs Chart

There’s a new star rising in Latin music… And her name is Sofia Reyes.

The 18-year-old Mexican singer is earning a following and bubbling under Billboard Latin Pop Songs charts with her high-octane bilingual single “Muevelo,” featuring Wisin.

Reyes recently signed with Prince Royce‘s D’Leon imprint (under Warner Latin Music) as its inaugural act. She’s currently supporting the bachata superstar on tour.

Reyes’ lyric video for the track, which was released on August 22, has already drawn nearly 200,000 worldwide YouTube views in its first month.

“I wanted to deliver a fun and fresh bilingual song that will make everybody move to the beats and rhythm that my fans and I enjoy,” Reyes beams. “Plus, Wisin definitely adds his signature touch of urban and Latin pop to the song.”

She previously released the tracks So Beautiful (A Place Called Home) and Now Forever (feat. Khleo Thomas).

de Vita to Receive the Prestigious Billboard Hall of Fame Award

The 60-year-old Venezuelan singer-songwriter will be feted with the Billboard Hall of Fame Award at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, which will take place on April 24.

The Billboard Hall of Fame Award is reserved for those artists who’ve achieved global recognition for a career that transcends genre and language.

de Vita is being recognized for his perceptive pop/rock ballads that have brought him international acclaim over his three-decade career.

He’s sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, achieving 11 top 10s and one No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.

One of Latin pop’s most revered artists, de Vita became known as the lead vocalist, keyboardist, and songwriter of the trio Icaro before launching his solo career.

After a string of hits in the 1980s including “Solo Importas Tu,” “Te Amo,” and “Louis,” his song “No Basta” spent six weeks atop the Hot Latin Songs chart in 1991.

Most recently, “Te Pienso Sin Querer,” featuring Gloria Trevi, peaked at No. 17 on Latin Pop Airplay.

de Vita has also composed hit songs for other artists including pop star Chayanne (“Contra vientos y mareas,” “Y Tú Te Vas” and “Un Siglo Sin Ti”); and Ricky Martin (“A Medio Vivir,” “Vuelve,” and “Tal Vez”). Those collaborative works alone have sold more than 30 million albums around the world.

He’s known for his frequent collaborations with a broad spectrum of artists. de Vita’s Vuelve en Primera Fila tour will take him to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Chile, Paraguay and Argentina this spring. The Venezuelan leg of the tour, planned for March, was cancelled. “With the hope that my country achieves peace and harmony I hold the firm conviction that we will see each other soon,” The artist announced on his Website.
