Camila Cabello Teams Up with Willow for New Dark Pop Track “Psychofreak”

Camila Cabello has a willow future hit on her hands…

The 25-year-old Mexican & Cuban singer has joined voices with Willow’s for their collaborative track “Psychofreak” and the song’s music video.

Camila Cabello

To kick off the release of her third studio album, Familia, Cabello dropped the video for the dark pop track on Friday (April 8).

In the video, Cabello and Willow are at the mercy of a liminal space consisting of turquoise and green-painted walls, paneled office ceilings and carpeted flooring. As Cabello begins contemplating her many anxieties and lack of connection with others, the walls in the space start to shift. Suddenly the singer is perched on the walls and ceiling, highlighting the inner turmoil she feels.

“Feelin’ like a psychofreak sometimes/ Tryna get connected, no Wi-Fi/ Tell me that you love me, are you lying?/ Give me lemonade, I give you limes/ House in the hills is a house of cards/ Blink and the fairytale falls apart/ Sorry, didn’t mean to get so dark/ Maybe I’m an alien, Earth is hard,” Cabello sings in the chorus of the track.

The song also sees the former Fifth Harmony member discussing her 2016 split from the group in the track’s second verse: “Everybody says they miss the old me/ I been on this ride since I was 15/ I don’t blame the girls for how it went down, down.” Cabello confirmed the lyrics were about her leaving the group in an April 7 interview with Reuters, and said she is in a “really good place” with the other members.

Willow, meanwhile, chimes in for an assist on the downtempo tune, and gives an angsty edge to the song, singing about her inability to open herself up to love from a partner and relax. “Wish I could be like everyone/ But I’m not like anyone,” she laments.

Talisa Garcia Makes History as First Openly Trans Actor Cast in a Lucasfilm Production

Talisa Garcia is making LGBTQ+ entertainment history…

The Chilean-born British actress has been cast in the highly anticipated Disney+ series Willow, marking the first known occasion an openly trans actor has been cast in a production from Disney-owned Lucasfilm, home to the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

Talisa GarciaIn the television spinoff of the 1980s fantasy classic, which is now in post-production, a princess assembles a party to join her on a quest to rescue her twin brother.

Garcia is playing a queen and the mother to Tony Revolori’s character who takes part in the quest. Garcia’s role is a small speaking part and the actress may ultimately only appear in one episode.

The casting also marks the first known time a trans actor has portrayed a cis character in a Disney+ film or series.

During the shoot, there were reports of great pride and support among many of Garcia’s colleagues about her casting.

Garcia was cast in the project long before the storm developed surrounding Disney’s response to the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill and new wave of concerns emerged about on-screen representation in Disney productions.

The studio has been under fire in recent weeks for its response to the controversial Florida legislation, which bans teachers from giving lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity to children under the age of nine.

The studio’s initial silence surrounding the bill angered and frustrated many staff who took it as a slight to the LGBTQ+ community and saw it as an example of the House of Mouse not doing enough to support diversity, something critics also believe the studio could do more of on screen. Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso was among those to voice criticism at the recent GLAAD Media awards.

Last year, Raya And The Last Dragon actress Patti Harrison became the first known trans actor to voice a character in a Disney animated movie. In 2019, SpiderMan’s Zach Barack became Marvel Studios’ first transgender actor. More recently, non-binary trans actor iris menas portrayed Anybodys in 20th Century Studios’ West Side Story reboot. Meanwhile, there have been reports online in recent days that Disney+ series Ironheart is looking to recruit a trans actress.

In 2021, Chloe Zhao’s film Eternals featured the first-ever gay superhero in a MCU movie – with Brian Tyree Henry taking on the role of Eternal and inventor Phastos. Lauren Ridloff also starred in the feature film – making history as the first deaf actor ever to play a superhero in a studio feature film.

Garcia is best known for BBC crime-thriller Baptiste.

Her other credits include Starz!’s The Girlfriend Experience and TBSMiracle Workers.

Camila Cabello Reveals Track List for Upcoming Third Solo Album “Familia”

Camila Cabello is opening up about her familia

The 25-year-old Cuban-Mexican singer has revealed the official track list for her highly anticipated third studio album Familia.

Camila Cabello

In addition to her Ed Sheeran collab “Bam Bam,” the album – to be releases on April 8 — will also feature appearance by Willow (“Psychofreak”), Maria Becerra (“Hasta Los Dientes”) and Yotuel (“Lola”).

Cabello previewed two more songs from the 12-track album earlier in the week via a 43-second video for a song with the lyrics “Hate it when you shut me out/ Acting like it’s your $h*t to figure out.” The moody track preview was followed by another video on Tuesday of a seemingly acoustic guitar-driven ballad, which repeatedly features the lyrics “Everyone at this party isn’t you.”

The snippets came ahead of Cabello’s anticipated “Familia: Welcome to the Family” concert, which will take place live on her TikTok at 7:00 pm ET on Thursday, April 7.

The streaming event will preview more songs from the album; the program has been described in a release as an “immersive and inventive music experience.”

Familia means community, I guess the opposite of you on your own,” said Cabello in a previous interview with Billboard. “It’s more you with other people land sharing in that joy and success, whatever that means. Interdependence realizing how important everybody is in your life. A lot of it is inspired by my relationships: My relationships to my family, my relationship to my friends, my relationship to my partner … it’s all about connections with other people, hence, Familia.”

Following this week’s TikTok concert and the release of her new album Cabello will appear on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest for the April 9 episode, which actor Jake Gyllenhaal will be hosting.

Ruby Cruz to Star in Disney Plus’ Upcoming Television Series “Willow”

It’s a sweet, sweet fantasy for Ruby Cruz

The Latina actress has been cast as the female co-lead opposite Ellie Bamber and Erin Kellyman in WillowDisney+ and Lucasfilm’s upcoming television series follow-up to the 1988 fantasy movie, with the film’s star Warwick Davis reprising his title role.

Ruby Cruz

Davis replaced Cailee Spaeny, who had been originally tapped for the role, after an extensive recasting process. Lucasfilm declined comment.

The new incarnation of Willow, which also co-stars Tony Revolori, comes from Jonathan Kasdan, who wrote the pilot and serves as co-showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle; the original film’s director Ron Howard and writer Bob Dolman; as well as Lucasfilm, which produced the movie. Jonathan Entwistle is directing.

The Willow movie, written by Dolman from a story by George Lucas, starred Davis as a reluctant farmer who leads a ragtag crew on a quest to protect a special baby from a tyrannical queen who vows to destroy her. The series takes place years after the events of the film. It introduces all-new characters to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters, and welcomes back its hero Willow Ufgood (Davis).

No additional details about the series’ storyline have been released. According to circulated casting information for the series, it revolves around a group on a mission to save a kidnapped prince. The members of the team include Dove, an unassuming kitchen maid who proves she is the “chosen one” as she embarks on the journey. She is joined by Kit (Cruz), the princess whose twin brother was abducted. Kit is destined to be a leader and ultimately the queen. Kellyman plays Jade, a servant who is Kit’s best friend and moral compass.

Willow is slated to film in Wales, where much of the original film was shot.

Cruz previously starred in another television adaptation of a cult 1980s movie; she played the female lead in the 2019 CW pilot The Lost Boys, a version of Jami Gertz’s character from the 1987 film. Cruz is best known for playing a young Lizzy Kaplan on the second season of Hulu’s Castle Rock. She next will be seen in HBO Max’s Mare of Easttown with Kate Winslet.
