John Leguizamo to Take Part in The People’s State of the Union

John Leguizamo is heading to State

The 53-year-old Colombian actor/comedian will take part in what’s being dubbed as The People’s State of the Union.

John Leguizamo

Taking place a day before U.S. President Donald Trump deliverers his State of the Union speech, Lequizamo will join celebrities like Mark Ruffalo, activists, and representatives from political organizations in New York City on Monday, January 29.

The goal? To unite against Trump’s agenda and spur voters to win back U.S. Congress in the mid-term elections.

“In essence, it’s a better reflection of our state of the union based on a more populist point of view, based on the people’s point of view,” Ruffalo told People of the event. “I think it’s important because we have a president who has a difficult time with the truth, who has a radical, divisive agenda, and spends an enormous amount of time focusing on the negative and hopelessness and despair.”

“We want to celebrate this moment that we’re in of what is now probably one of the most influential and powerful and really beautiful movements to come into play in the United States since the civil rights movement,” Ruffalo continued, going on to describe the event as “a celebration of the power and the beauty of this movement, but also of our accomplishments and to focus on what’s to come in the immediate future.”

Other participants will include Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Nixon, Michael Moore, Kathy Najimy, Wanda Sykes, Lee Daniels, Rosie Perez and Fisher Stevens, as well as Andra Day and Common, who will perform their song “Stand Up for Something” from the film Marshall.

Ortiz Lands Series Regular Role on TBS’ Dark Comedy Pilot “World’s End”

It’s the end of the world for James Ortiz

The Latino actor has booked a series regular role opposite Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes and Maribeth Monroe in TBS’ pilot World’s End.

Television

Written by Jonathan Ames, based on Icelandic dramedy Heimsendir, a Sagafilm format, World’s End is a dark comedy about an asylum that operates like a family, and as in all families, the question of who is sane and who isn’t is open for discussion. It follows Henry Mueller (Linklater), a charismatic high school English teacher who has a breakdown and is committed to a mental institution. There, under the watchful eye of Louise Baldwin (Sykes), he begins to feel “sane.” Henry starts to question the system and the methods used to contain the inmates, ultimately becoming the leader of an inmate revolt.

Ortiz will play Martin, a patient at Kingsley Hospital. He’s Dr. White’s prized patient and mentee at Kingsley Hospital who gives every impression of being on staff. Martin, however, is the deeply troubled subject of Dr. White’s book and is suffering from multiple personality disorder.

Amazon Studios will be releasing all 10 episodes of the second season of the 43-year-old half-Mexican actor’s political comedy Alpha House on Friday, October 24 on Amazon Prime Instant Video in the U.S., UK and Germany.

Season two boasts a number of prolific guest stars including Bill Murray, Penn Jillette, Matt Lauer, Rachel Maddow, Jane Pauley, George Stephanopoulos as well as a number of returning guests including Wanda Sykes, Amy Sedaris and Haley Joel Osmet.

The votes are in.. And, Mark Consuelos’ latest television project has been re-elected…

Amazon has renewed the 42-year-old half-Mexican actor’s politically themed comedy series Alpha House for a second season.

Alpha House

Written by Garry Trudeau, the Amazon Studios-produced series, which premiered on November 15, revolves around four misfit senators (Consuelos, John Goodman, Clark Johnson and Matt Malloy) who rent a house together in Washington D.C.

The star-studded cast is rounded out by Cynthia Nixon, Amy Sedaris, Wanda Sykes and Julie White.

No word yet on the number of episodes that have been ordered for the second season.

Louis C.K. Releases His Film Directorial Debut “Tomorrow Night”

Louis C.K. is offering his fans a blast from his filmmaking past…

The 46-year-old Mexican American comedian and actor has just released his feature film directorial debut Tomorrow Night online, some sixteen years after its Sundance Film Festival premiere.

Louis C.K., Tomorrow Night

Louis C.K. wrote and directed the black and white 16mm dark comedy, about a photo shop owner obsessed with ice cream, and took it to festivals back in 1998.

But according to C.K., distributors didn’t step up to the plate and the movie sat fading into obscurity in his storage locker.

That’s all changed now though…

Louis C.K. has made Tomorrow Night available for download for $5. The film stars comedians Robert Smigel, Chuck Sklar, Rick Shapiro, Heather Morgan, Nick Diapolo, and Joseph Dolphin and features a number of future comedy stars in small roles including Amy Poehler, J.B. Smoove, Steve Carell, Wanda Sykes, and Conan O’Brien.

Louis C.K. recently hit the promo circuit and stopped by The Daily Show with friend Jon Stewart, who lent Louis C.K. money to make the movie years ago as did Chris Rock, Denis Leary, Spike Feresten and Brett Butler.

He also notably put out his 2011 comedy special Live at the Beacon Theater on his own website for $5 a pop, trusting fans not to pirate it, and took in $1M with the self-release strategy.
