Luna: The First “Project Runway” Champion?

He’s been the standout contestant on “Project Runway” this season…  And now Viktor Luna could be the first Latino to win the reality competition.

During Thursday’s “Finale Part 1” episode, judges Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia gave the 30-year-old Guadalajara, Mexico-born designer, along with fellow contestants Anya Ayoung-Chee, Joshua McKinley and Kimberly Goldson, five weeks and $9,000 to create their collections.

Luna’s collection featured an eye-catching white leather jacket with pearls down the sleeves, as well as several pieces featuring an abstract print that he created using photographs he’d taken in Mexico, where he grew up.

After showing a three-piece mini-collection of their favorite looks, Luna’s collection seemed to fare best with the judges. But in the end, all four finalists were sent through to compete at New York City Fashion Week.

So, after winning two challenges and receiving high-praise on his final collection, it looks like Luna—a third generation seamster who learned about construction and tailoring from his mother—may have the inside track to taking sewing up the title of “Project Runway” Champion and making history as the first Latino winner.

This week’s final episode of “Project Runway” will air on Thursday on Lifetime at 9:00 pm ET.
