Armisen to Direct a Kings of Leon Concert for American Express Unstaged

The 46-year-old half-Venezuelan actor/comedian and former Saturday Night Live star is set to direct a Kings of Leon show next month for the American Express Unstaged series, according to the Associated Press.

The Portlandia star, who recently ended his SNL run after 11 years, has previously directed music videos and is himself a drummer and musician.

Armisen wrapped up his SNL run as his memorable punk character Ian Rubbish along with former Sonic Youth member Kim Gordon, J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols and former Sleater-Kinney guitarist and vocalist (and his Portlandia co-star) Carrie Brownstein, among others.

The Kings of Leon concert will take place on August 9th at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, and will be streamed by YouTube and Vevo.

It will mark the 13th entry in the American Express Unstaged series; the series’ last show featured Steve Buscemi directing Vampire Weekend, which had Armisen open as Ian Rubbish.

Kings of Leon’s next album, Mechanical Bull, will be out September 24th.

Sanchez Releases Her “Tonight” Music Video on VEVO

Jessica Sanchez is about to “hop up on this rocket, take to the sky” in high-style…

The 17-year-old half-Mexican American singer has released the music video for her single with Ne-Yo “Tonight,” which the pair performed on last week’s American Idol results show, on VEVO.

At the beginning of the four-minute video, a stylishly dressed Sanchez sways and sashays in front of a screen projecting images of the New York City skyline.

Ne-Yo then joins the Idol runner-up to help her get the party started in a club-like scene complete with a deejay and talented dancers.

About two minutes into the video, the pint-sized singer with the big voice – who  appears in five outfits – jumps in to show off her own dance moves in a high-energy dance sequence that already been watched more that 400,000 times since its release.

Sanchez’s new track is available for download on iTunes. Her debut album Me, You & the Music will be released on April 30.

Gomez to Perform at the Radio Disney Music Awards

Former Disney Channel star Selena Gomez is heading home

The 20-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer, who will be releasing new music in March, will be headlining the Radio Disney Music Awards at L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre on Saturday, April 27.

Gomez, who will be shedding her Disney image in Spring Breakers in the coming weeks, tops the list of young performers that includes Bridgit Mendler, Cody Simpson, YouTube sensation Austin Mahone, Cher Lloyd and Coco Jones, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans will have the chance to vote for their favorites in categories like Ultimate Breakout Star: Biggest Viral Artist; XOXO: Best Crush Song; and So FANtastic: Fiercest Fans, among others. The Radio Disney Music Awards will also recognize five kids from the U.S. with the Heroes for Change award, recognizing their efforts to make a difference in their communities.

The Radio Disney Music Awards celebrate the most popular recording artists among kids and tweens. The awards show will be available across multiple platforms, including Vevo, Disney Channel, Radio Disney, and the RadioDisney.com and Disney.com websites.

Rivera Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Social 50 Chart

The Mexican American banda singer, who died in a plane crash earlier this month at the age of 43, has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart this past week as predicted, due to a peak in online activity surrounding her untimely passing, particularly the including her public memorial on Wednesday.

La Diva de la Banda added a little over a million fans across her various online outlets, accumulating 560,000 to her official Twitter account and 435,000 new followers to her Facebook page, following a 485% rise in weekly conversation on the platform as measured by Facebook’s People Talking About This statistic. Her videos on her VEVO channel saw an increase as well, experiencing a 1,500% rise in plays over the previous week to reach 8.7 million views throughout the week.

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, VEVO, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, MySpace and Instagram. The chart’s methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions.

Rivera’s No. 1 position on the Social 50 chart follows her No. 1 finish on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.

Shakira Releases Steamy “Addicted to You” Video

Talk about longevity… Shakira may have released her most recent album Sale el Sol back in October 2010, but the hits keep coming…

The  35-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter, who recently claimed four trophies at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, released the single “Addicted to You” on iTunes and Amazon in March. And, she’s just released a music video for the song, which is the fifth official single from the Latin Grammy-winning album.

In the clip for the merengue-inflected track, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer radiates her signature sultry style, writhing around in skin-baring outfits while singing the Spanglish lyrics. She even manages to get steamy in a bath.

The video, which premiered Wednesday on VEVO, was shot in Los Angeles by renowned music video director Anthony Mandler.

Gomez Preparing to “Hit the Lights”…

The 19-year-old half-Mexican singer/ actress has released a third clip to promote the release of her video for “Hits the Lights,” the third single from  Selena Gomez & the Scene’s latest album “When the Sun Goes Down.”

There’s no doubt Gomez has succeeded  in building some serious buzz and excitement for the club-thumper that Gomez says is about living in the moment.

“Basically this song is just encouraging people to let loose, have fun, and be young and crazy,” says the former Wizards of Waverly star.

Shot in California, the oh-so-happy video features a vivacious Gomez with her bandmates and a slew of extras in various scenes, including a corn field, a discofied wooded-area and a baseball field.

Dressed in a sparkly purple-sequined shorts-jumper and knee-high lack boots, Gomez performed the party-thumper live at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards—where she also served as the show host.

“Hit the Lights” will premiere on VEVO on Wednesday, November 16.
