Trailer Released for Guillermo Arriaga’s Latest Project, “Upon Open Sky”

The sky’s the limit for Guillermo Arriaga’s latest project…

The first look trailer has been released for the 65-year-old Mexican novelist, screenwriter, director and producer’s film Upon Open Sky.

Guillermo ArriagaArriaga’s film will be heading to Venice and TIFF.

Arriaga’s daughter, Mariana, and son, Santiago, co-directed the film, which is a Mexican-Spanish co-production, from his screenplay. Production companies are Kramer & Sigman Films and Clave Intelectual. Film Factory is selling.

The plot follows two teenage brothers who take a road trip to the border between Mexico and the United States to track down the man responsible for the car accident that caused their father’s death. Joined by their newly-met step-sister, the three siblings embark on a tense journey of revenge, which will ultimately see them come to terms with their father’s passing.

Upon Open Sky debuts in the Orizzonti sidebar at Venice before moving on to play TIFF en the Centrepiece lineup.

Arriaga is best known for his work with Mexican auteur Alejandro González Iñárritu, including the filmmaker’s two early acclaimed worksAmores Perros and 21 Grams. Guillermo also penned Iñárritu’s Babel, which earned him an Oscar nomination for best screenplay in 2007. He was awarded the Palma de Oro for best screenplay at the Cannes Festival in 2005 for his work on The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. As a producer, Guillermo won the Len de Oro at the Biennale de Venezia for Venezuelan filmmaker Lorenzo Vigas’s From Afar.

Beals’ “Lauren” Returning for Second Season on YouTube

Jennifer Beals is suiting up for another commanding run on the Internet…

The 49-year-old part-Puerto Rican actress, who is starring in ABC’s sudsy pilot Venice, will be returning this spring for a second season of YouTube’s scripted drama Lauren.

Starring Troian Bellisario in the titular role, the series centers on a female sergeant trying to find justice after being raped by three soldiers. She finds no sympathy in her commanding officer Major Jo Stone, portrayed by Beals.

Lauren, which debuted with three episodes last summer, will be back for a 12-episode and continue to explore the consequences of dealing with sexual assault in the military.

In addition to Beals and Bellisario, the series stars Raymond Cruz, Bradley Whitford and Justine Ezarik.

Lauren’s second season is set to in the spring on YouTube’s WIGS channel.

Annable Cast Opposite Jennifer Beals in ABC’s “Venice”

Odette Annable is about to experience forbidden love…

The 27-year-old half-Cuban American actress has landed a role in ABC’s drama pilot Venice, which stars Jennifer Beals.

The Romeo & Juliet-inspired project, which was written by Byron Balasco, is a soap about the haves and the have-nots in California’s most enchanting beach city, Venice.

Directed by McG, Venice focuses on two rival families, the Nances and the Carvers, and a forbidden and dangerous romance that emerges between the two as the families battle for control of Venice.

Annable, who currently appears in a recurring role on CBSGolden Boy and guest-starred on Cinemax’s new series Banshee, will portray Sophie Nance, the owner of the hippest boutique in Venice, who falls in love with the offspring of her family’s archenemies, Chris Carver.

Annable, who co-starred on the final season of Fox’s House, has appeared on Brothers & Sisters, October Road and Breaking In.

The drama pilot, written by Byron Balasco, is a sudsy-type project about the haves and the have-nots in California’s most seductive city, Venice. It centers on two rival families and a forbidden and dangerous romance that emerges between them as the families battle for control of the beach city.

Beals will portray Lisa Carver, the elegant bohemian matriarch of the Carver family, one of the two feuding clans.

McG will be directing the pilot from Warner Bros. Television and his Wonderland Sound and Vision studio, which he’ll executive produce as well.

Beals, who rose to acclaim in 1993’s Flashdance and starred in Showtime’s The L Word, most recently appeared on television in The Mob Doctor, Castle and Lie to Me.
