In the latest poster for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills, Sofia Vergara appears in a weaponized bustier.

The 40-year-old Colombian actress stars as Lady Desdemona, a femme fatale in the Mexican-American director’s sequel to Machete.

The action-packed film centers on title character Machete Cortez (portrayed by Danny Trejo), a dangerous, hard-luck anti-hero. This time the U.S. government (led by  a presidential Charlie Sheen) recruits Machete to battle his way through his native Mexico to topple an arms dealer who wants to rain destruction on the U.S. with a orbital weapon.

Along with Vergara, Trejo and Sheen, the cast includes Mel Gibson, Vanessa Hudgens, Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard and Lady Gaga, who has donned undergarment firepower of her own.

“It was a whirlwind. She was willing to do anything and everything,” said Rodriguez of Vergara’s performance in the film. “She became this character. It was great fun for everybody.”

Machete Kills is set to open in theaters on September 13.

The 20-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer’s highly anticipated Disney-image-shattering film Spring Breakers will now be getting a limited sneak peek in Los Angeles and New York City on March 15, one week before opening nationwide on March 22, according to Annapurna Pictures.

The R-rated girls-gone-wild film, directed by Harmony Korine, follows a gang of trouble-seeking coeds (Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine) who get mixed up with a drug-dealing rapper (James Franco) in Florida.

Spring Breakers first debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year; and it will get its big premiere in the United States on March 10 at the SXSW Film Conference and Festival in Austin.

The international trailer for Selena Gomez’s Spring Breakers shows just how far of a departure she’s taken from her Wizards of Waverly Place character…

The 20-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer, who will be releasing a new music soon, appears in the just-released, red-band worthy Spring Breakers trailer from French company Mars Distribution.

The clip for Harmony Korine’s R-rated Day-Glo coed crime romp shows a racier look at what the domestic previews have held back: drug use, nudity, guns galore and gratuitous f-bombs dropped by Gomez and her co-stars Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine.

James Franco also stars in the film as a blinged-out thug rapper complete with a gold grill.

Spring Breakers, which will premiere at the SXSW Film Conference and Festival in Austin next month, will open in theaters in the United States on March 22.

Gomez Covers Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River”

The 20-year-old half-Mexican-American  singer/actress covered Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” at her third annual UNICEF charity concert in New York over the weekend, only weeks after breaking up with the Biebs. Gomez’s ex performed the exact same song in November following the couple’s first break-up.

“I’ve been through a lot the past few months. It’s been weird and sad and cool,” Gomez told the crowd. She then confessed, “This song definitely speaks to me,” right before performing a stripped-down version of Timberlake’s smash break-up track.

Gomez followed it up with another break-up tune, her bestie Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.

“It’s by my best friend in the entire world and if anybody has felt anything painful to their heart, they know who this girl is. Sing along if you know it,” said Gomez.

In addition, Gomez offered event attendees her rendition of Britney Spears‘ “Baby One More Time“, possily alluding to her upcoming film with Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco, Spring Breakers, which is reportedly  filled-with Spears covers.

The 20-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer’s highly anticipated Spring Breakers will have its United States premiere at the SXSW Film Conference and Festival in Austin, taking place March 8-16.

Directed by Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers stars Gomez as one of four college girls who end up in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation, only to find themselves bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do a little dirty work.

In addition to Gomez, the film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and James Franco.

Meanwhile, Uruguayan director/screenwriter Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead remake will have its world premiere at the festival.

Based on the cult classic from director Sam Raimi, the film centers on five friends, holed up in a remote cabin, who discover a Book of the Dead that unwittingly summons up dormant demons, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left to fight for survival.

The film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.

The 44-year-old Mexican American director’s Machete Kills, the sequel to Machete and the second in a planned trilogy, will be released on September 13, 2013.

Kyle Ward penned the screenplay for the sequel, which is based on a story by Marcel Rodriguez and Robert Rodriguez.

Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills” to be Distributed by Open Road

Open Road Films has announced that the company will be distributing Machete Kills, the highly anticipated film from the 44-year-old Mexican-American filmmaker.

The second movie in the trilogy, which stars Danny Trejo as rough-faced ex-Federale agent Machete, comes from a screenplay by Kyle Ward. It’s based on a story by Rodriguez and his brother Marcel Rodriguez.

Along with Trejo, the film stars pop diva Lady Gaga in her film acting debut, as well as Oscar nominee Demian Bichir, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Mel Gibson.

In 2010′s cult favorite Machete, Trejo made a mess while seeking revenge on an old boss, with cameos by celebrities like Lindsay Lohan.

In the sequel, Trejo as Machete is recruited by none other than the President of the United States to take down a “madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet,” according to the Open Road press release.

Machete Kills is expected to hit theaters in 2013.

Ortega to Helm an Episode of “Bunheads”

He’s the mastermind behind the iconic choreography in Dirty Dancing… And, he directed High School Musical’s Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens to stardom… And, now Kenny Ortega is preparing to tackle the world of ballet…

The 61-year-old Latin-American director, choreographer and producer has been tapped to direct the third episode of Amy Sherman-Palladino‘s new ABC Family ballet drama Bunheads, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bunheads centers on a Las Vegas showgirl who impulsively marries a man, moves with him to a sleepy coastal town and takes an uneasy role at her mother-in-law’s dance school. Sutton Foster, Kaitlyn Jenkins, Julia Telles, Bailey Buntain and Emma Dumont star in the hour-long drama. Gilmore Girls alum Kelly Bishop guest stars.

Ortega had previously directed several episodes of Sherman-Palladino’s iconic WB series Gilmore Girls.

Production on Bunheads began last week in Los Angeles, with the series set to premiere on Monday, June 11 at 9:00 pm EST.

Meanwhile, Ortega’s episode is slated to air June 25.

Guzman Journeys Into His First 3D Film

He’s one of Hollywood’s most beloved Latino character actors… But, Luis Guzman has never appeared in a 3D film… until now!

The 55-year-old Puerto Rican actor is starring in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

“It’s my first 3D film and, truthfully, it looks stupendously good. Just like my role!” says Guzman with a chuckle to EFE. “I think that 3D is important today and it will be part of the future of movies, but I also think that they’re never going to replace us actors.”

Starring Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson and Vanessa Hudgens, the family adventure film centers on Sean Anderson (Hutchgerson), who partners with his mom’s boyfriend (Johnson) a mission to find his grandfather, thought to be missing on a mythical island.

It’s been almost two decades since moviegiers first saw Guzman’s shady-looking face in Carlito’s Way (1993), the film in which he played Al Pacino’s bodyguard. Since then actor has become an ongoing presence in Hollywood with his scene-stealing roles.

“I think that part of my secret is that I do good work, I have a good heart and I’m a good person,” Guzman told Efe. “I get along well with people and I have great respect for directors, producers and actors. Hollywood has given me so much love.”

Guzman’s film credits include Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, Out of Sight and Traffic. He most recently starred in the two seasons of HBO’s How to Make It in America.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, open this Friday in theaters nationwide.
