Last Episode of Roday’s “Psych” to Air March 26, Followed by a Special Live After-Show

USA Network has formally announced that the current eighth season of the 37-year-old Mexican American actor’s cult favorite series will be its last, which the last episode airing on March 26.

Roday and his Psych co-star Dule Hill made the official announcement today via video posted on YouTube.

“Psych has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy,” said Chris McCumber, president of USA Network. “The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series’ incredible run.”

Psych is one of those rare projects that broke into the cultural mainstream,” added Jeff Wachtel, President and Chief Content Officer, NBCU Cable Entertainment. “Its wild energy, fearless fun and engaging characters delivered an unrivaled series that will continue to be loved by fans for as long as there are ways to watch TV.”

But Psych fans will get an extra-special goodbye via Psych After Show, a one-hour live show in front of a studio audience that will feature a Q&A with Roday and the cast, as well as show creator Steve Franks.

Produced by Wilshire Studios, the after-show will feature favorite clips, audience Q&A and never-before-seen footage.

The final five episodes of the current season will beg airing February 26, right after the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Montana’s “Graceland” Series Renewed for a Second Season

Two days before Graceland‘s first-season finale, the USA Network has given the drama, starring the Latino actor as  Joe ‘Johnny’ Tuturro, a 13-episode second-season renewal.

Graceland got off to a decent start in June with 3.3 million total viewers and 1 million adults 18-49 against Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

With high double-digit Live+7 bumps, Graceland has averaged 4 million total viewers (+74%) and 1.8 million adults 18-49 (+90%) in its most current ratings, ranking as the No. 1 new cable scripted series of the summer in 18-49.

“[Show creator] Jeff Eastin has once again delivered for USA Network,” said USA President Chris McCumber. “We’re proud to be the home of one of the summer’s top new cable dramas and anticipate Graceland will be a long-term player for the network.”

In Graceland, from Fox Television Studios, rookie FBI Agent Mike Warren (Aaron Tveit) is unexpectedly shipped off to a Southern California beachfront property-turned-safehouse for undercover agents, dubbed “Graceland,” and assigned to investigate his would-be mentor — the enigmatic and legendary FBI Agent Paul Briggs (Daniel Sunjata).

Teaser Video Released for Roday’s “Psych: The Musical” Episode

He may portray a crime-solver on Psych… But in December, James Roday will be a crime-solving singer and dancer.

USA Network has announced that the long-awaited, two-hour Psych musical episode will be broadcast on Sunday, December 15 with guest appearances by musical veterans Anthony Rapp and Barry Bostwick.

In the sneak-peek at the musical episode, via The Hollywood Reporter, the 37-year-old Mexican American actor’s character Shawn and Dule Hill‘s Gus sing and dance about solving cases under the Santa Barbara sky, joined by other members of the Santa Barbara Police Department.

In Psych: The Musical, Shawn and Gus track down escaped playwright mad man named Z (Rapp), who six years earlier was deemed criminally insane after locking a critic in a back room of the theater that he burned to the ground. Shawn and Gus are forced to consult with the one person Z confided in while in the institution, a dangerous villain from Shawn’s past.

Meanwhile, USA has announced the winner of the first ever Psych fan-vote contest to choose a storyline to feature in a season eight episode.

The chosen episode, “A Nightmare on State Street”, will find Gus entering dream therapy to understand the cause of his recent night terrors, but after therapy, nothing is as it seems. It will be directed by Roday and promises to deliver “a new vision in terror.”

The eighth season and final of Psych will premiere this winter on USA Network.

Ion Television Buys Rights to Additional Seasons of Roday’s “Psych” Series

James Roday’s long-running television series Psych will continue airing for years to come.

Ion Television, which purchased the rights to the first six seasons of the USA Network’s buddy dramedy two years ago, has just secured the most recent run of the series in a deal with NBCUniversal Cable and New Media Distribution.

Psych, which stars the 37-year-old Mexican American and Dule Hill, is the network’s longest-running current series.

It was greenlighted in December for an eighth season, with the network requesting an additional two episodes last month.

“We’re excited to double down on the bet we made by adding Psych, a show that has consistently delivered a wide range of viewers since joining our lineup in 2011,” said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO of ION Media Networks.

Shortly after ordering five additional scripts of its veteran series Psych, USA Network has ordered two additional episodes for the dramedy’s upcoming eighth season.

The total order for what will most likely be Psych‘s final season now stands at 10 episodes.

For one of the extra episodes, USA executives picked among the five extra scripts. For the other, the network is letting the show’s fans choose from three episodic storylines. The episode that gets the most votes will be produced, with the winner announced at the Psych Comic-Con panel on July 18, hosted by returning guest star Cary Elwes.

USA originally ordered eight episodes for Season 8 in December, ahead of the show’s delayed seventh season.

Here’s a look at the storylines Psych fans can vote on starting tomorrow:

TELETHON – In a classic “whodunit?” case with a PSYCH twist, Shawn and Gus investigate a murder that Shawn is convinced was committed by the beloved host of Santa Barbara’s annual Children’s Hospital Telethon. There’s only one problem – the host was seen by hundreds of thousands of people on live television during the exact time the murder occurred elsewhere. Can Shawn steal the show, poke a hole in this rock-solid alibi, and prove the host did it? Or will Shawn fail in front of his biggest audience yet?

DREAM THERAPY – From acclaimed director James Roday (“Mr. Yin Presents…”, “Heeeeere’s Lassie”), comes a new vision in terror: “Nightmare on State Street!” In the episode, an exhausted Gus enters dream therapy to understand the cause of his recent night terrors. But after this, nothing is ever again what it seems… He soon realizes that in dreams, no one can hear you scream!

FOOD TRUCK – When the well-known owner of a beloved Santa Barbara food truck is mysteriously murdered, Shawn and Gus, fans of delicious flavor, are determined to solve the crime as only they can. They go undercover as proprietors of the PSYCH Naptime Food Truck, and soon discover that the high-profit world of Santa Barbara’s mobile food business is cutthroat, insular and a place of many secrets – many of them worth killing for.

The 37-year-old Mexican American’s eighth and potentially last season of the hit series Psych could be extended.

The USA Network is reportedly looking to expand the upcoming eighth season of Psych by five episodes, according to Deadline.com.

The website reports that the network has ordered five additional scripts from the veteran sleuth dramedy as a step toward a potential back episodic order.

USA originally picked up an eight-episode eighth season of Psych in December, ahead of the show’s seventh-season premiere in February.

Despite a long hiatus, Psych returned to strong ratings, drawing 2.9 million in its premiere, up double digits in viewers and all key demos versus its Season 6 launch.

The series about a faux psychic (Roday) and his best friend (Dule Hill) who work for the Santa Barbara Police Department also continues to be a huge draw on social media.

The USA Network has announced the renewal of the 36-year-old Mexican American actor and Dule Hill’s buddy-detective series Psych for another season.

“What better holiday present to give our fans than to announce #Psych has been picked up for an 8th season! Happy holidays!” announced the show’s Twitter feed.

The announcement comes two months before the dramedy’s seventh season premieres on February 27. The upcoming 16-episode season will include the series’ 100th episode as well as a two-hour musical.

The eighth season of Psych, the network’s longest-running series currently on air, will consist of eight episodes. It’s believed it will be the show’s last season.

Morales Cast in ABC’s Comedy Pilot “Trophy Wife”

Natalie Morales will soon be on best friend duty…

The 27-year-old Cuban American actress has joined the cast of ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot Trophy Wife.

The project centers on reformed party girl Kate (Malin Akerman), who finds herself with an insta-family when she falls in love with Brad (Bradley Whitford), a successful charmer with a quirky sense of humor who has three manipulative kids and two judgmental ex-wives (Marcia Gay Harden, Michaela Watkins).

Morales will play Meg, Kate’s best friend.

Her television credits include a recent arc on HBO’s Newsroom, as well as recurring roles on USA Network’s White Collar, NBC’s Parks and Recreation and ABC Family’s The Middleman.

Roday’s “Psych” to Return for Season 7 in February

This is no Psych-out… James Roday will be back on the small screen with new episodes of his long-running series in early 2013.

The USA Network has announced that the seventh season of its hit series starring the 36-year-old half-Mexican American actor will premiere on Wednesday, February 27 at 10 PM.

Psych’s 16-episode season will include the series’ 100th episode, as well as a special two-hour musical installment.

Psych, which co-stars Dule Hill, features Roday as hyper-observant consultant detective and fake psychic Shawn Spencer.

Khotan to Appear on USA’s “Royal Pains”

Telenovela star Khotan Fernández is setting his sights on a Hollywood crossover…

The 39-year-old Mexican telenovela star, simply known as Khotan, has signed on to appear in a recurring role on USA Network’s Royal Pains.

It’s the first English-speaking appearance for Khotan, who most recently starred in Telemundo’s popular telenovela Perro Amor.

Khotan will play Rafa, a polo-playing underwear model and love interest to Reshma Shetty’s character Divya.

The actor, who will appear in five episodes of Royal Pains, is currently starring in the series Sexo Debil.

In addition to Khotan, his Perro Amor co-star Angelica Celaya will guest star on USA’s Burn Notice.
