Cardi B Earns Five BET Awards Nominations

It’s five for fighting for Cardi B…

The 21st BET Awards 2021 nominees list has been released, with the 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar earning five nods.

Cardi B, a four-time BET Award winner, is nominated for Best Female Hip Hop Artist.

Her chart-topping collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP,” is nominated for Best Collaboration and the Viewer’s Choice Award, while the music video is up for Video of the Year.

The clip for Cardi B’s chart-topping single “Up” is also nominated for Video of the Year, giving her two nods in the category.

Bruno Mars has picked up four nominations…

The 35-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer is nominated for Best Group for his R&B duo Silk Sonic, composed of Mars and Anderson .Paak.

Silk Sonic’s debut single “Leave the Door Open” is nominated for the Viewer’s Choice Award, while the song’s music clip is up for Video of the Year. The clip also earned Mars a nod for Video Director of the Year alongside Florent Dechard.

Jhene Aiko is celebrating her BET Award nom…

The 33-year-old part-Spanish American singer is up for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.

Emcida is celebrating his BET Awards callout…

The 33-year-old Brazilian rapper, singer, songwriter and MC, whose real name is Leandro Roque de Oliveira, is nominated for Best International Act.

The awards honor Black excellence across music, television, film, and sports in 21 categories.

The BET Awards 2021 will air live on Sunday, June 27 on BET at 8:00 pm ET/ PT. The show was a virtual event last year during the pandemic.

Cardi B Releasing New “Mommy & Me” Reebok Collection

Cardi B is preparing for a mother-daughter moment like no other…

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar spent her third Mother’s Day with daughter Kulture over the weekend, and she’s continuing the celebration with a brand new Reebok collection.

The “Mommy & Me” footwear capsule, inspired by the love the star has for her daughter, features two monochrome Club C Cardi silhouettes in Rose Gold and Aqua Dust.

According to a press release, rose gold is known as the metal of love and represents Cardi B’s affection for Kulture. Meanwhile, the Aqua Dust colorway is inspired by the aquamarine stone, which represents clarity, calm and relaxation, which is how the “Up” rapper feels about being a mom.

In a one-minute video teasing the collection, Cardi is seen FaceTiming Kulture. She also shared her advice for new parents. “Don’t be reading books on how to become a parent,” the rapper explained. “Trust me, once the baby’s here, it’s almost like you know. It just comes naturally.”

She also added some sweet words for her daughter. “You’re beautiful, you’re smart,” Cardi B said. “You’ve got successful parents. The whole world loves you. Ain’t no way you can’t make your dreams come true.”

The Reebok x Cardi B “Mommy & Me” collection is the final Club C Cardi drop and will be available to purchase in adult, junior and infant sizing on Reebok.com starting on May 13 at 10 a.m. ET.

Cardi B Rewrites Record for Most Weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Triller U.S. Chart

Cardi B is trill standing tall…

The 28-year-old half-Dominican rap superstar has rewritten the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Triller U.S. chart, as “Up” spends its fifth week at No. 1 via the April 10-dated tally.

The Top Triller U.S. and Top Triller Global charts highlight the biggest songs on Triller based on a formula blending the amount of views of videos containing a respective songs, the level of engagement with those videos and the raw total of videos uploaded featuring each song, according to Triller.

Data for the charts is represented on a Friday-Thursday tracking week, with the latest period running March 25-April 1.

With its fifth week atop the tally, “Up” breaks out of a tie with Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cry Baby,” featuring DaBaby, and Dixie D’Amelio’s “Be Happy” for the most weeks at No. 1 in the history of Top Triller U.S., which began in July 2020.

“Up” first crowned the ranking dated February 27 and has since spent every week on the chart either at No. 1 or No. 2.

Concurrently, the song spends its second straight week at No. 2 on Top Triller Global after leading for two weeks last month.

According to Triller, the top video on the platform to use “Up” in the March 25-April 1 tracking period was a March 7 upload from user don22ovan.

“Up” is No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 alongside its return to No. 1 on Top Triller U.S. The song earned 22.4 million U.S. streams on digital service providers like Spotify, Apple Music and more; accumulated 34.5 million audience impressions on radio; and 8,000 digital downloads.

Cardi B’s “Up” Rises to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, A Historic Fifth Chart-Topper on the Chart

Things are still up for Cardi B…

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar’s latest single “Up” rises from No. 6 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 to spend its first week at the top of the chart.

The song, which becomes Cardi B’s fifth Hot 100 No. 1, debuted at No. 2 five weeks earlier and tallied three weeks at the runner-up spot before reaching the summit.

Cardi B performed “Up” as part of a medley, with Megan Thee Stallion, of their four-week 2020 Hot 100 No. 1 “WAP” on the 63rd annual Grammy Awards, broadcast on CBS, on March 14, which helped power the song’s ascent.

“Up” drew 22.7 million U.S. streams (down 5%) and 18,000 downloads sold (up 96%, good for the Hot 100’s top Sales Gainer award) in the week ending March 18, according to MRC Data. It also attracted 34.9 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 7%) in the week ending March 21.

The track rises 5-3 on the Streaming Songs chart, which it led for two weeks; 7-3 on Digital Song Sales, where it spent a week in the lead; and 17-14 on Radio Songs.

Cardi B extends her record for the most Hot 100 No. 1s among female rappers. (Of her five leaders, four have also topped the multi-metric Hot Rap Songs chart, all except Maroon 5‘s “Girls Like You,” on which she’s featured.)

Meanwhile, “Up” is Cardi B’s first Hot 100 No. 1 with no accompanying acts since “Bodak Yellow.” Thanks to the two leaders, Cardi B is the first female rapper with two Hot 100 No. 1s with no accompanying artists.

Dating to her first week atop the Hot 100 with “Bodak Yellow” (Oct. 7, 2017), Cardi B ties for the most No. 1s among all acts in the span since, matching the five each earned in that stretch by Drake and Ariana Grande.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data.

“Up” concurrently rebounds 5-1 and 4-1, respectively, for a fourth week each atop the multi-metric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, which use the same methodology as the Hot 100.

“Up” is the first song by a solo female and no accompanying artists to top the Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs since Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” in 2019. Before that, Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” last earned the honor.

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar’s latest single “Up” jumps from No. 4 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart on the list dated March 20.

“Up” rallies with a 16% surge in plays in the week ending March 14, according to MRC Data, to become the most-played track at the radio format’s monitored stations.

“Up,” released on Atlantic Records, flies to the chart summit in its sixth week on the list and marks the fastest ascent in just under a year, Drake’s “Toosie Slide” was the last leader to arrive at No. 1 quicker, with just five weeks before its coronation in May 2020.

Among female artists, Cardi B’s sprint clocks the speediest time since… well, herself, when “Finesse,” her collaboration with Bruno Mars, also needed six weeks to reach the top spot.

For the fourth time, the 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar has logged the No. 1 track on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart.

“Up,” Cardi B’s latest single, debuts atop the list dated February 20, with 31.2 million U.S. streams in the tracking week ending February 11, according to MRC Data.

Cardi B first ruled the Streaming Songs chart with the two-week No. 1 “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” in 2017, and followed it up with the Bruno Mars collaboration “Finesse” (one week, 2018) and the 10-week rule of “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion last year.

Cardi B now ties Taylor Swift for the most Streaming Songs No. 1s among women.

Cardi B is makin’ history on the Billboard charts…

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar’s “Up” knocks down every current challenger on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as the single debuts at No. 1 on the list dated February 20.

With the start, Cardi B posts consecutive chart-topping debuts while she also claims a feat unseen on the Billboard Hot 100 in over 20 years.

With “Up,” Cardi B lands consecutive No. 1 debuts on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, after “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, likewise opened on top last August as it began a 10-week domination.

The combo makes Cardi B the first artist to post two straight No. 1 debuts on the chart as a lead artist, and second overall performer after Drake, whose consecutive starts came from a feature spot on Rihanna’s “Work” and his own single “Summer Sixteen” in 2016.

In all, “Up” is Cardi B’s sixth No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, notably with at least one in each of the last five years. Here’s the full collection:

Elsewhere, “Up” begins at No. 2 on the all-genre Hot 100, behind Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License.” Still, the song’s arrival makes for a Hot 100 achievement that hadn’t happened in more than two decades.

Until “Up,” no woman had debuted higher on the Hot 100 with a song with no other billed artists that also made Billboard‘s Hot Rap Songs chart since Lauryn Hill‘s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998, the only other single in the club.

As implied in the prior stat, “Up” also debuts at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

“Up” arrives with, no surprise, a high streaming sum. The track, released February 5, registered 31.2 million U.S. streams in the week ending February 11, according to MRC Data. The total allows for a No. 1 start on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, where it becomes Cardi B’s fifth leader of her career.

The No. 1 debuts keep coming as “Up” launches as Cardi B’s seventh song to reach the summit on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart thanks to 34,000 downloads sold in the week ending February 20.

For the final metric that contributes to the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, radio airplay, “Up” is not No. 1 – no song is this early in its arc – but does establish some personal bests for Cardi B’s career. The track’s No. 24 debut last week (on the chart dated Feb. 13) marked her highest entrance among 20 singles on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, while its 24-18 increase on the current chart ties “Motorsport,” her collaboration with Migos and Nicki Minaj, as her best second-week rank of those entries. “Up” ascends as it registers 8.7 million in audience impressions in its first full tracking week on the radio format, which wrapped on February 14.

Elsewhere, “Up” rallies 17-9 on Rap Airplay in its second chart week and flies 31-17 on Rhythmic Airplay.

Cardi B is ready to rise up the charts…

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar has released her latest single, the booty-bouncing track “Up,” as well as the song’s steamy music video.

Kicking off the clip in a cemetery, Cardi B, clad in a black corset, bids last year a final farewell as she steps on a man laying on top of a “RIP 2020” burial plot.

And it’s all up from there.

There’s twerking, tongue kissing and titillating looks, with Cardi B announcing: “Bardi’s back, and all you bitches f – – ked.”

Cardi B announced her new single on Monday, sharing the cover artwork and writing, “LETS GOOOOOO!”

It’s the follow-up single to Cardi B’s last release was “WAP,” her blockbuster team-up with Megan Thee Stallion that topped the Billboard Hot 100 last August.

 

She was named Billboard‘s 2020 Woman of the Year in December, accepting the honor from Breonna Taylor‘s mom, Tamika Palmer.

This weekend, Cardi B will be featured in an Uber Eats Super Bowl commercial alongside Mike Myers and Dana Carvey for the return of their Wayne’s World characters.

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, has announced plans to release brand-new single “UP” this Friday.

On Sunday, Cardi B tweeted a video with the caption “I got an announcement to make tomorrow” and a loud-speaker emoji, so it’s safe to say this was her big news.

In addition to the single news, Cardi B also linked fans to her webstore, where she’s selling a CD single of the new song.

Cardi B’s last release was “WAP,” her blockbuster team-up with Megan Thee Stallion that topped the Billboard Hot 100 back in August.

She was named Billboard’s 2020 Woman of the Year in December, accepting the honor from Breonna Taylor‘s mom, Tamika Palmer.

Jonas Rivera Makes History at the Academy Awards

Jonas Riverahas entered the Oscars history books…

The 48-year-old Mexican American film producer picked up the second Academy Award of his career on Sunday night, making him the first U.S.-born Latino to win multiple Oscars.

Rivera won an Oscar as one of the producers of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4, which was named Best Animated Feature.

Rivera had previously won an Oscar for the 2015 film Disney/Pixar’s animated film Inside Out.

“As if my mind couldn’t be more blown about the last five minutes, thank you for that,” Rivera said during a backstage interview, after interviewers informed him that he had made history. “I’m a little bit out of my body right now. It means the world to me. I can’t even really put it into words.”

While Rivera doesn’t speak Spanish fluently, he said he feels connected to his Latino identity and that he tries to bring his culture into his work as he did in Toy Story 4by hiring Jay Hernandezto play Bonnie’s father in the movie. Rivera was particularly close to his Mexican grandfather, to whom he dedicated the animated feature Up. 

“The only Spanish I learned was when my grandparents would fight,” Rivera said. “You work hard, you put your guts into it … and it does happen.”
