Plaza’s “The To-Do List” Opening Three Weeks Earlier

Aubrey Plaza’s latest film is coming out sooner than originally planned…

CBS Films has upped the domestic release date for the 28-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress’ next movie The To-Do List some three weeks earlier.

Aubrey Plaza in The To-Do List

Plaza’s comedy, which centers on an awkward overachiever who tries to make up for her sexual underachieving in high school before she heads to college, has been moved up from August 16 to July 26.

Instead of facing off against Universal’s action-comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2, it will now serve as counterprogramming to Fox’s highly anticipated film The Wolverine.

Along with Plaza, writer-director Maggie Carey’s film also stars Johnny Simmons, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Andy Samberg and Connie Britton.

Orci to Produce Fantasy Adventure Series “Dragonology”

Roberto Orci is preparing to take children on a fantastical adventure…

The 39-year-old Mexican film and television producer and his business partner Alex Kurtzman have signed on to produce Dragonology, a fantasy adventure series to be based on the children’s book series.

Roberto Orci

Universal picked up the series in 2008, initially hiring Leonard Hartman to pen the script. Hartman now will serve as an executive producer on the project, while Orci and Kurtzman will oversee the hiring of a new scribe and the writing of a new script.

The faux fiction books are based on the notion that dragons actually exist as revealed by the Victorian dragonologist Ernest Drake. The studio’s take revolves around a team of dragonologists who embark on a quest to avert a plot to use the world’s remaining dragons to wipe out humanity.

The series, published in the U.K. by Templar and in the U.S. by Candlewick Press, now has 12 titles and has sold more than 6 million copies.

Dragonology falls under Kurtzman and Orci’s two-year, first-look deal with Universal that they signed in May.

The duo are writers and producers on Star Trek 2 and have been slated to write and executive produce the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

Rodriguez to Star in “Identity Thief”

Genesis Rodriguez is getting married to the mob… at least on the big screen!

The 24-year-old Venezuelan American actress has signed on to star in Universal’s film Identity Thief.

Genesis Rodriguez

In the comedy starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, Rodriguez will play an associate to a local crime boss who comes looking for McCarthy’s character after she scams them out of money.

This marks Rodriguez’s latest project in her quest to make a big splash in Hollywood…

She previously starred in Man On A Ledge and Will Ferrell’s Spanish-language melodrama Casa De Mi Padre. And, she most recently appeared opposite Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez in What to Expect When You’re Expecting.
