Becky G to Co-Host This Year’s Latin American Music Awards

Becky G will be spending a lot of time on the Latin AMAs stage…

The 27-year-old Mexican American singer, songwriter, rapper and actress will serve as a co-host alongside Thalia, Alejandra Espinoza and Carlos Ponce at this year’s Latin American Music Awards.

Becky GOther artists set to take center stage during the awards ceremony — which is celebrating the theme We Speak Música — include Feid, Anitta, Manuel Medrano and Oscar Maydon. The first of the four (in addition to Peso Pluma) is the most nominated artist this year, leading with 12 nods.

Feid and Peso, who are up for the artist of the year and album of the year awards, are followed by top nominees Bad Bunny (11), Grupo Frontera (11), Karol G (9), Shakira (9), Eslabon Armado (8) and Fuerza Regida (8).

Meanwhile, three artists will receive a special recognition during the ceremony: Recognized for their notable musical careers, both Banda MS and Ricardo Montaner will be honored with the Latin AMA Legacy Award, and Yandel will be celebrated for his contributions to the Latin urban music scene with the Latin AMA Pioneer Award.

The 2024 Latin American Music Awards will air live at 7:00 pm ET on Thursday, April 25, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas via Univision, UNIMÁS, Galavisión and ViX.

Feid Earns 12 Latin American Music Awards Nods

Feid has 12 reasons to smile…

Univision has revealed the 2024 Latin American Music Awards nominees, with the 31-year-old Colombian singer tying Mexican star Peso Pluma with 12 nods each.

FeidFeid and Peso Pluma, who are up for the coveted artist of the year and album of the year awards, are followed by top nominees Bad Bunny (11), Grupo Frontera (11), Karol G (9), Shakira (9), Eslabon Armado (8) and Fuerza Regida (8).

Co-hosted by Thalía, Alejandra Espinoza and Carlos Ponce, this year’s awards ceremony will celebrate the theme “We Speak Música” and will air live at 7:00 pm ET on Thursday, April 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas via Univision, UNIMÁS, Galavision and ViX.

The 2024 nominations are based on fan interactions across streaming, sales, radio airplay, touring and social media interaction data provided by Billboard and Luminate during the eligibility period (Feb. 11, 2023 to Feb. 24, 2024), according to a press statement.

Fans have until April 1 to vote for their favorite artists here.

Maluma to Perform at This Year’s Latin Grammy Awards Show

Maluma will be feelin’ the FIBES…

The 29-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter will perform at this year’s Latin Grammy Awards.

MalumaThe “Felices Los 4” singer joins a roster of recently added performers that includes Milo J, Rosalia, Shakira, Sebastian Yatra, Andrea Bocelli and DJ Premier.

They’ll perform at the upcoming ceremony, which will broadcast from FIBES in Seville, Spain, on Thursday, November 16.

The newly announced artists join previously unveiled performers, including Maria Becerra, Bizarrap, Feid, Kany García, Carin León, Christian Nodal, Rauw Alejandro, Alejandro Sanz, Pablo Alborán, Edgar Barrera, Camilo, Manuel Carrasco, Iza, Juanes, Ozuna, Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma.

Additionally, Majo Aguilar, Anitta, Pedro Capó, Jorge Drexler, Luis Figueroa, Fonseca, Tiago Iorc, Mon Laferte, Natalia Lafourcade, John Leguizamo, Nicki Nicole, Carlos Ponce, Carlos Vives and Yandel join as presenters throughout the ceremony.

For the first time held outside the United States, the annual Latin Grammys will be broadcast from the Conference and Exhibition Centre in Seville, Spain. It will air November 16 on Univision starting at 8:00 pm ET, UniMás and Galavisión in the U.S., and at 10:30 pm CET on Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE) in Spain.

Danna Paola, Yatra, Roselyn Sánchez and Paz Vega will serve as co-hosts.

This year, Mexican hitmaker Edgar Barrera leads the list of nominees with 13 nods, including songwriter of the year, producer of the year and song of the year. Barrera is followed by Colombian stars Camilo, Karol G, Shakira and composer Kevyn Mauricio Cruz (also known as Keityn), each with seven nominations.

Roselyn Sánchez to Return as Co-Host of This Year’s Latin Grammy Awards Show

Roselyn Sánchez is reporting for Latin Grammy duty…

The 50-year-old Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, dancer, model, actress, producer and writer will serve as a co-host of this year’s Latin Grammy Awards ceremony, which will be broadcast from the Conference and Exhibition Centre (FIBES) in Seville, Spain, on Thursday, November 16, at 8:00 pm ET via Univision, UniMás and Galavisión in the U.S., and at 10:30 p.m. CET on Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE) in Spain.

Roselyn SanchezSanchez, best known for her work on Devious Maids and Without a Trace, will host the awards show alongside Mexican singer Danna Paola, Colombian superstar Sebastián Yatra and Spanish actress Paz Vega. 

A host staple for the awards show, Sánchez returns for the sixth time after presenting the 16th, 17th, 18th, 20th and 22nd annual Latin Grammys.

Racking up a total of 15 Latin Grammy nominations throughout his career, Yatra is nominated for best pop song for “Contigo,” featuring Pablo Alborán.

Previously nominated for a Latin Grammy, Danna Paola joins the lineup of hosts for the first time.

Last but not least, award-winning actress Paz Vega returns for a second time after hosting the 20th annual ceremony.

The first round of performers were announced earlier this week, which includes Maria Becerra, Bizarrap, Feid, Kany García, Carin León, Christian Nodal, Rauw Alejandro and Alejandro Sanz.

This year, Mexican-American super producer Edgar Barrera leads the list of nominees with 13 nods, including songwriter of the year, producer of the year and song of the year. Natti Natasha to Co-Host This Year’s Latin American Music Awards

Natti Natasha is ready to run the show…

The 36-year-old Dominican singer will make her hosting debut at the 2023 Latin American Music Awards.

Natti NatashaThe “Sin Pijama” singer will co-host the awards ceremony — which will be broadcast live on April 20 — alongside Julian Gil and Galilea Montijo. 

“I’ve never shied away from living new experiences, and tackling new challenges,” Natasha tells Billboard. “Hosting an award show is something new and exciting for me. It gives me a way to connect with a live audience and those watching at home, and celebrate with them our culture and passion through what we love … música!”

Natasha adds that she’s already preparing for the big day.

“The work begins now! In the next weeks, I look forward to working with producers, creatives, wardrobe and production as a whole to ensure we give audiences an evening to remember.”

Natti Natasha is also up for three awards this year. She’s nominated in the categories best artist – urban, best collaboration – pop/urban and collaboration of the year for “Mayor Que Usted,” with Daddy Yankee and Wisin & Yandel.

Bad Bunny Leads Pack of Latin American Music Awards Nominees with 11 Nods

Bad Bunny is the artist to beat at this year’s Latin American Music Awards.

The nominations for the 2023 Latin AMAs have been revealed, with the 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer leading the pack with 11 nominations, including artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year.

Bad BunnyBad Bunny is still riding high off his Billboard 200 chart-topping album Un Verano Sin Ti and hit single “Me porto bonito.”

Bad Bunny is followed by Becky G and Daddy Yankee, each with nine nominations; and with eight nods each are Grupo Frontera, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Romeo Santos and Rosalía, to name a few.

Additionally, Bizarrap, Blessd, Edén Muñoz, Grupo Frontera, Los Lara, Luis Figueroa, Luis R Conriquez, Quevedo, Santa Fe Klan and Yahritza y Su Esencia are nominated in the best new artist category.

TelevisaUnivision also revealed that Carlos Vives and Pepe Aguilar will be recognized as 2023 Latin AMAs Legacy honorees.

Co-hosted by Galilea Montijo and Julián Gil, the eighth edition of the Latin AMAs will take place on Thursday, April 20, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, and for the first time — since its debut on October 8, 2015, on Telemundo — the ceremony will be broadcast live simultaneously on Univision, UNIMÁS and Galavisión (starting at 7:00 pm ET), after TelevisaUnivision acquired the rights from dick clark productions last September.

This year’s nominations are based on streaming, sales, radio airplay, tours and even social media interactions data provided by Billboard and Luminate during the eligibility period (February 12, 2022, through February 4, 2023).

Verdejo to Face Daniel Evangelista in 10-Round Bout

Felix Verdejo is ready to rumble on his home turf…

The 22-year-old rising Puerto Rican lightweight boxing star and 2014 ESPN.com prospect of the year will face Daniel Evangelista on April 16 at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, according promoter Top Rank.

The scheduled 10-round bout will headline a “Solo Boxeo Tecate” card on Spanish-language network UniMas.

“The name of my opponent makes no difference,” Verdejo said. “I want to fight the best, but I don’t choose my opponents. I leave that to [manager and trainer] Ricky [Marquez] and Top Rank. I always prepare well for any opponent, and this time won’t be the exception. I will be in my best condition to once again bring happiness to my people.”

If he comes through the bout against Evangelista unscathed, Verdejo (20-0, 14 KOs), 22, is due to fight again on June 11, the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York. That bout, an HBO-televised co-feature at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, is expected to be against a much better opponent than Evangelista.

The leading candidate for that fight is Jose Felix Jr. (33-1-1, 25 KOs), 23, of Mexico, a fringe contender, according to Top Rank chairman Bob Arum.

Evangelista (18-6-2, 14 KOs), 25, of Mexico, is 1-3-1 in his past four fights but has experience against opponents such as former junior lightweight world titleholder Argenis Mendez and unbeaten prospect Casey Ramos.

“I don’t think it would be smart to think that a fighter with some losses on his record doesn’t have the qualities to be a worthy opponent,” Marquez said of Evangelista. “I respect Evangelista for his bravery of coming to our island to try to ruin our plans. I really think he is an opponent that will come to apply pressure, throw a lot of punches and will make Felix work to dominate him.”

Camila Sodi’s latest television project is coming to the Americas…

Turner Broadcasting System Latin America has picked up the exclusive, first-run subscription television rights to the original series Señorita Pólvora, starring the 28-year-old Mexican singer, actress and model.

The Spanish-language drama is based on a real-life story about a beauty queen who falls for a Mafia hitman.

Señorita Pólvora, which also stars Iván Sánchez, José María de Tavira and Saúl Lisazo, will premiere on TNT in early 2015.

Following its TNT debut, the telenovela will be available for subscribers on the streaming site Claro video, a Netfix rival owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, the world’s richest man.

Señorita Pólvora is the first of several teleseries that Sony Pictures Television and Televisa are co-producing under a multiyear joint venture.

The distribution deals allow Señorita Pólvora to reach audiences in 42 territories throughout Latin America.

“Señorita Pólvora is a great acquisition for us as it is consistent with our strategy to incorporate local content on channels to further engage Latin American viewers,” said Angel Zambrano, vice president of acquisitions and syndication at Turner Broadcasting System Latin America.

In the U.S., the series will air on the Univision network UniMas.

Sodi to Star in the Original Telenovela “Señorita Pólvora”

Camila Sodi is returning to the world of telenovelas…

The 27-year-old actress and model, who starred in the telenovela Inocente de Ti with Valentino Lanús and Helena Rojo in 2004–2005, will star in the original telenovela Señorita Pólvora.

The first co-production for Sony Pictures Television and Televisa under a join 5-year deal was inspired by the real life story of abeauty queen whose alleged connections to the underworld and a romantic affair with an assassin ultimately led to her untimely demise.

Sodi, the niece of former telenovela starThalía, will star opposite Iván Sánchez and José María de Tavira.

Señorita Pólvora follows Valentina (Sodi), a beautiful, well-to-do young women who falls for a hit man only to find out that her love, in addition to her own family, belongs to of one of Mexico’s most powerful drug cartels. Her explosive life and gradual descent into the world of crime is chronicled by a journalist who kindles a burning flame for the deadly beauty queen.

“Señorita Pólvora is the first of many series that we will produce with Sony Pictures Television. With this production pipeline, we are bringing new stories and content with different perspectives to the marketplace. We are confident that these original series will captivate our audience from the very beginning,” said Antonio Alonso, director general, Planning and International, Televisa Productions.

The telenovela will be produced in Mexico by Sony Pictures Television, and will air across multiple Televisa platforms and on UniMás in the U.S.

Señorita Pólvora is also being sold across the rest of Latin America by Sony Pictures Television while Televisa will distribute across the east and south of Europe; Sony Pictures Television and Televisa will jointly distribute the series throughout the rest of the world.

Daniel Ucros (El Mariachi) serves as executive producer.

Time Warner Cable to Feature Rodriguez’s El Rey Network

Time Warne Cable subscribers will have the chance to experience Robert Rodriguez’s latest venture…

The cable company has reached a distribution deal with Univision that includes El Rey Network and local news.

The agreement will make Time Warne Cable, the nation’s No. 2 cable operator, and Bright House Networks among the first distributors to feature the 45-year-old Mexican American filmmaker’s English-language entertainment channel when it launches this year.

“Time Warner Cable’s commitment to El Rey emboldens our ability to bring exciting, visceral and cinematic stories to young viewers across the U.S.” says Rodriguez.

The channel “will provide our customers with a unique experience,” says Time Warner Cable’s Melinda Witmer.

The pact for a broad suite of channels including Univision also includes what the companies call “a first-of-its-kind local news partnership to better serve Hispanic audiences in Los Angeles, New York and other shared markets.”

The deal comes well ahead of the expiration of the parties’ existing agreement.

Time Warner Cable will offer new networks including Univision Deportes, Univision tlNovelas and FOROtv along with UniMás, Galavisión, De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Distrito Comedia.
