Eva Longoria is looking to expand her behind-the-scenes television empire…
NBC has put in development a multi-camera comedy inspired by the life of relationship therapist Laura Berman, with the 38-year-old Mexican American actress and former Desperate Housewives star attached to executive produce.
The untitled project, from writer-producers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, centers on a female sex & relationship therapist who helps patients deal with intimacy, love and unusual fetishes — but that’s nothing compared to navigating the relationships with her ex-husband, his new girlfriend and her own mother, all while raising her two young sons.
Universal Television is producing the comedy, which falls under the first-look deal Longoria and her UnevliEVAble Entertainment inked with the company last fall.
Longoria is currently an executive producer on Lifetime’s hit sudser Devious Maids. She also produced NBC’s short-lived dating series Ready for Love.
Berman, who stars in the OWN series In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman and is a regular guest on The Dr. Oz Show, will serve as a co-exec producer on the project.
