Don Omar Earns 11th No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay Chart with “Soy Yo,” with Wisin & Gente de Zona

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer and actor has risen to the No. 1 spot on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart dated July 16 with his latest single “Soy Yo” with Wisin and Gente de Zona.

The new win arrives a week after “Soy Yo” cracked the No. 1 spot on Tropical Airplay for the first time to rule in its 12th week (July 9-dated ranking).

“Reaching No. 1 for the 11th time in my career is a blessing!” Don Omar shares with Billboard. “The love and appreciation from my fans who have stood by me all these years inspires me to bring more music to them! I dedicate this achievement to them!”

“Soy Yo” rules Latin Airplay with a 38% gain in audience impressions, to 11.17 million, logged in the U.S. in the week ending July 10, according to Luminate.

The airplay surge earns the song the week’s Greatest Gainer trophy, while the percentage gain becomes the second-largest increase following another Wisin collaboration: “Buenos Días,” with Camilo, with a 44% boost, to 5.2 impressions.

With the move, Don Omar claims an 11th career No. 1 total on Latin Airplay. The champ arrives six months after he ruled with “Se Menea,” with Nio García, for two weeks.

As “Soy Yo” leads, collaborators Wisin and Gente de Zona, concurrently add chart achievements. Wisin continues his No. 1 career expansion as a solo act with 21 champs, tying with Maluma for the fifth-most among all Latin acts. Gente de Zona, meanwhile, pounces to the No. 1 rank after almost seven years. The duo last took the top spot on Latin Airplay with “La Gozadera,” featuring Marc Anthony, in August 2015 for one week.

Gente de Zona has made a triumphant return to the top of the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart…

Soy Yo,” the first collaboration between the Cuban reggaeton duo comprised of musicians Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom, Wisin and Don Omar, has reached the summit of the Tropical Airplay chart dated July 9.

Gente de Zona“Soy Yo” tops the list with a 17% increase in audience impressions, to 8.03 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending July 3, according to Luminate (rising 2-1).

It trades places with Prince Royce and Maria Becerra’s “Te Espero” after its four-nonconsecutive-week reign (with 5.8 million impressions and a 24% dip).

“Soy Yo” becomes the first No. 1 for Gente de Zona in over five years, since “La Mala y La Buena,” with Alex Sensation, placed the Cubans in the penthouse in February 2017 for two weeks.

In between, the duo scored 20 entries — among those, a collection of 10 top 10s — including “A Mi Manera,” with Dale Pututi, Jacob Forever, featuring Baby Lores, Eddy K, Los 4, El Chacal, El Micha, El Chulo, which debuts at No. 24 on the current chart.

Don Omar and Wisin, meanwhile, clock their 10th and fifth champ, respectively.

For Don Omar, “Soy Yo” grants him a second No. 1 via his new label Saban Music after a more than eight-year hiatus on the chart. Prior to the nine-week champ “Se Menea,” with Nio García (December 2021), Don Omar scored eight chart-toppers, his last one in April 2021 (“Dutty Love,” with Natti Natasha).

“Soy Yo’s” coronation returns Saban Music to the top of Tropical Airplay. As previously mentioned, the label’s first win through Don Omar, arrived with “Se Menea’s” nine-week reign starting Dec. 25, 2021. The tribute to the late Celia Cruz, “El Carnaval de Celia: A Tribute (La Vida Es Un Carnaval/ La Negra Tiene…)” by Kyen?Es? saw the label at the summit for the first time in September 2020.

Elsewhere, “Soy Yo” continues forward progress on the all-genre Latin Airplay chart through a 7-4 climb; the highest Gente de Zona has ranked since its featured role in Chyno Miranda’s “Quédate Conmigo,” which also features Wisin (No. 7 high, 2017).

Carlos Vives & Camilo Reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “Baloncito Viejo”

Carlos Vives’ latest single has reached the summit of another Billboard chart…

A week after rising to No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart, the 60-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actor’s collaboration with Camilo has reached the No. 1 rank on the overall Latin Airplay chart as “Baloncito Viejo” rules the June 18-dated list.

Carlos Vives, Camilo,Vives and Camilo’s first collaboration lifts 2-1 in its 11th week with a 13% gain in audience impressions, earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 12, according to Luminate.

“Baloncito Viejo” becomes Vives’ 16th No. 1 on Latin Airplay, and first in almost three years.

He last achieved a No. 1 with “Si Me Das Tu Amor,” with Wisin, in August 2019.

In between, he’s scored four other entries, including “Canción Bonita” with Ricky Martin, the only other single — along with “Baloncito Viejo” — that appears on his latest studio album, Cumbiana II, which has secured a spot on the overall genre tally (the album debuted and peaked at No. 14 on the May 28-dated Tropical Albums chart).

Camilo, meanwhile, clocks his sixth leader and first of the year. It follows “Millones” which ruled for one week in July 2021. Along with “Baloncito Viejo,” Camilo also charts with “Pegao” on Latin Airplay, at No. 42 on the current chart week.

Elsewhere, “Baloncito Viejo” rises to a new peak on Latin Pop Airplay with an equal 2-1 ascent. The move marks Vives first No. 1 in almost six years, since “La Bicicleta,” with Shakira, topped the ranking for 12 consecutive weeks, starting the July 9, 2016-dated chart.

Notably, both artists capture their fifth champ on Latin Pop Airplay.

Further, “Baloncito Viejo” holds its No. 1 rank on Tropical Airplay for a second week.

Airplay gains likewise push the song up the all-metric Hot Latin Songs, which factors radio airplay, song sales and streaming into its calculations. “Baloncito Viejo” climbs 50-41 and takes home the Greatest Gainer/Airplay honors.

The move puts Vives back atop the tally. He last scored a champ in August 2019 when “Si Me Das Tu Amor,” with Wisin, climbed 3-1 in its 20th week.

He registers his ninth No. 1 on the chart, meanwhile, Camilo secures his second.

“Baloncito Viejo” jumps from No. 2 after a 42 percent surge in audience impressions, to 9.1 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 5, according to Luminate.

The duo sends another pair to the runner-up slot: Prince Royce and Maria Becerra’s “Te Espero” dips 1-2 with 8.5 million impressions after its two-week reign.

“Baloncito Viejo,” released March 2 via Sony Music Latin/WK, leads in 13th week. It’s the fourth track in 2022 to have landed at the summit in at least 10 weeks or more.

Over on Latin Airplay, “Baloncito Viejo” barely misses the top, climbing 10-2 in its 10th week.

It’s the closest Vives has been to No. 1 since also “Si Me Das Tu Amor” gifted him his 15th win in 2019. It’s a different setting for Camilo as he last captured a No. 1 less than a year ago when “Millones” ruled the overall Latin survey for one week in July 2021.

“Baloncito Viejo” concurrently makes progress on Latin Pop Airplay. It rises 2-1 as the Greatest Gainer of the week.

Luis Enrique Signs Exclusive Publishing Administration Deal with Peermusic

Luis Enrique has a new publishing deal…

The 59-year-old Nicaraguan singer-songwriter, known as El Príncipe de la Salsa, has signed an exclusive publishing administration deal with peermusic.

On the Billboard charts, the salsa singer-songwriter has 28 entries on the Hot Latin Songs chart, including nine Top 10s.

On the Tropical Airplay chart, he has five No. 1 hits, including his 2009 banger “Yo No Se Mañana,” which spent 11 weeks at the top. His Grammy-award-winning album Ciclos, peaked at No. 1 on the Tropical Albums chart and No. 2 on the Top Latin Albums chart in 2009.

Enrique’s prolific career spans over four decades, and is known as one of the pioneers of the salsa romantica movement in the late ‘80s, and early ‘90s.

Prince Royce to Launch 11-Date “Classic Tour” Across U.S.

The 32-year-old Dominica American bachata star has announced an upcoming 11-date “greatest hits” trek that he’s called the Classic Tour.

Prince RoyceAs part of the trek, Royce will not only serenade fans with the songs that catapulted his career, but he’ll also celebrate his decade-long trajectory.

“I am thrilled to be able to share the Classic Tour with all of my fans who have been there for me unconditionally since the very beginning of my career,” said Price Royce in a statement. “I am still here thanks to you all and this tour is for you. I’m filled with gratefulness.”

Produced by Loud and Live, the 11-date tour will kick off September 16 in Miami and take Royce across the U.S., visiting major markets like Chicago, New York and Los Angeles before wrapping up in Santa Barbara, Calif., in October. This will his first tour since the pandemic shutdown, which halted his Alter Ego Tour in March 2020.

Most recently, Royce and Maria Becerra scored a top 10 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart with their collaboration “Te Espero.”

For the Argentine artist, the track marked her first top 10 on the tally. Meanwhile, for Royce, it added a 30th top 10 his Tropical Airplay chart account.

The romantic bachata samples British rock band Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died in Your Arms” — a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1987 — and was produced by D’lesly “Dice” Lora and Royce, and written by Royce alongside Becerra, Nelsen and Bobby Sierra.

Romeo Santos’ “Sin Huellas” Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart

The 40-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer has notched his 20th No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart as his latest single, “Sus Huellas,” debuts atop the list dated February 26.

It’s just the fourth song to debut at No. 1 in the last five years on Latin Airplay, following Ozuna’s “La Funka” (2021), Lunay, Ozuna and Anuel AA’s “Aventura” (2019) and Santos’ own “Heroe Favorito” (2017).

On Latin Airplay, “Sus Huellas” leads with 9.1 million in audience impressions earned in the week ending February 20, according to MRC Data.

The song was released February 14, the first day of the tracking week, to become the most played song among Latin stations.

It dethrones Sebastian Yatra’s “Tacones Rojos” after its one week in charge.

The No. 1 arrival of “Sin Huellas” on Latin Airplay also marks a new triumph for Santos.

He last took over the chart with a No. 1 debut almost five years ago, when “Heroe Favorito” bowed atop the 50-deep tally in 2017.

In between, he’s placed five other No. 1 hits, including the four-week champ “Imitadora” in July 2017.

“Sin Huellas” also becomes Santos’ first No. 1 as a solo act, without an unaccompanied artist, since “Centavito” ruled for one week in December 2018.

As on Latin Airplay, “Sus Huellas” is Santos’ first No. 1 debut on Tropical Airplay since 2017 among a collection of 16 total wins, including two 15-week rulers (“Centavito” in 2018 and “La Mejor Versión de Mi,” with Natti Natasha, in 2019).

Beyond its Latin Airplay and Tropical Airplay coronations, “Sus Huellas” bows at No. 21 on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart (a blend of airplay, digital sales, and streaming data), Santos’ highest start there since “Aullando,” with Wisin & Yandel, arrived at No. 19 in 2019.

The song generated 1.61 million streams in the U.S. in the week ending February 17, after only four days of tracking. It concurrently sold a little under 1,000 downloads, enough for a No. 4 start on Latin Digital Song Sales.

“Sus Huellas,” written by Santos, is the first single from his forthcoming album Formula, Vol. 3.

Rosalia Reveals Cover Art for New Album “Motomami,” Announces New Single Release This Week

The 28-year-old Spanish Grammy-winning singer and songwriter has officially revealed the cover art for her forthcoming studio album, Motomami.

She’s rocking high pigtails and a motorcycle helmet. Her name is written in blue pen with the title “Motomami” in red graffiti.

Rosalia also revealed plans to release new music this week.

“Omg here you have the cover of MOTOMAMI and guess what new song is coming this Fridayyyy,” she captioned the photo.

Motomami, set for release this year, follow’s Rosalia’s 2018 Grammy-winning El Mal Querer, which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart dated Nov. 16, 2018 and won five Latin Grammys, including album of the year and best contemporary pop vocal album.

La Fama,” her second collaborative effort with The Weeknd, is the first official track from the upcoming set. The all-Spanish bachata track entered the top 10 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart dated January 29 and marked the first top 10 for each artist on the list. Rosalía previously clocked her fifth top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart as the track hit No. 2 on the November 27-dated survey.

“Rosalía is the type to be very judicious with what she releases,” Rosalía’s manager, Rebeca León, said during a panel at Billboard‘s Latin Music Week. “She’s a writer-producer, so she pays attention to every single detail. She’s not the type to write a song in a day.”

Fresh off his exclusive Facebook Live performance of “Lao’ a Lao’,” the 32-year-old Dominican American singer conquers the radio airwaves as his latest song jumps 4-1 to lead Billboard’s overall Latin Airplay chart (dated October 30). It concurrently takes over atop Tropical Airplay (2-1).

The bachata track was released August 12 and opened on Latin Airplay at No. 16 on the August 28-dated survey, with 5 million audience impressions earned in the U.S. On the latest chart, it bounds with a 34% gain, to 10.7 million, in the week ending October 24, according to MRC Data. The growth gives Royce his 14th leader and secures the song the week’s greatest gainer honor.

“Lao’ a Lao’” follows Royce’s only other No. 1 on the all-Latin ranking, which arrived more than six months ago: “Hasta Que Salga El Sol,” with Natti Natasha (one week atop the April 17-dated list).

“Lao’ a Lao’” also rebounds to No. 1 on Tropical Airplay to become the radio format’s most-played song for a second week after its August 28 lead. The champ then earned Royce his 21st leader, the third-most, trailing only Marc Anthony’s 34 wins and Victor Manuelle‘s 29.

 

Beyond its Latin Airplay and Tropical Airplay coronations, “Lao’ a Lao’’” rises35-25 on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart.

Luis Vazquez Named to Billboard’s 21 Under 21 List

Luis Vazquez is one of the young ones to watch…

The 15-year-old Puerto Rican salsa singer has been named to Billboard’s 21 Under 21 list, which features a mix of young chart-toppers, TikTok stars-turned-artists and on-the-verge breakout acts, among many more making waves in the industry right now.

Vazquez kicked off his music career at just 5 years old, having joined the musical group Los Bravitos de la Plena, founded by his musician father in Puerto Rico.

By 2019, Vazquez was discovered by artist manager Andy Martinez, who signed him to his label, JAK Entertainment, with a 360 deal. Earlier this year, Vazquez, whose biggest inspiration is Victor Manuelle, released “Tu Fan,” an urban-infused salsa track that highlights his crisp, dulcet vocals. “Tu Fan” scored Vazquez his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart, making him the youngest soloist to arrive at the summit since the chart began in October 1994.

But Vazquez isn’t the only Latinx artist to make the list…

Lucia de la Garza, sister Mila de la Garza and their fellow The Linda Lindas members, Bela Salazar and Eloise Wong, have made the cut.

The Linda Lindas first played together in January 2018 (before they were officially a band) when Dum Dum Girls founder Kristin Kontrol had them accompany her at the Los Angeles Girlschool festival.

By April 2019, the Latinx and Asian American punk rockers had opened a one-off date for Bikini Kill. The group has since independently released its debut, self-titled EP; placed a synch in Amy Poehler’s February film Moxie; and in May — after going viral with its anti-intolerance hit “Racist, Sexist Boy” — sisters Lucia and Mila, cousin Eloise and friend Bela signed with Epitaph Records and made their late-night debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Together they form Eslabon Armado.

Just six months after the band’s third album, Corta Venas, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart in January, the teenage band from Patterson, Calif., landed another chart-topper on the tally with Tu Veneno Mortal, Vol. 2. The 12-track set was the act’s fourth No. 1 in less than 13 months. With new member Ulises Vázquez now in tow, the trio — which won top Latin album artist of the year, duo or group at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards — doesn’t plan to slow down.

“I have a new strategy for the remainder of the year: release music when people expect it least,” reveals group member Pedro Tovar. “I want to have that element of surprise like other mainstream artists have done.”
