Alfred Molina to Star in Indie Dramedy “When We Get There”

Alfred Molina is going there…

The 69-year-old half-Spanish English actor will star in the indie dramedy When We Get There, the feature debut of writer-director Ryan Patrick Welsh.

Alfred MolinaMindy Sterling and William Katt are also set, with newcomers Chris Heeder, Jamie Lien and Alek Kristopher rounding out the cast.

Co-directed by Justin Giddings, When We Get There tells the story of brothers Cal (Heeder) and Ty (Kristopher), who embark on a cross-country trek to meet the father they’ve never known, and the only family they have left. Along with Cal’s long-term girlfriend Ellie (Lien) and a new guitar named Stevie, the trio are forced to navigate uncertain futures on a 2000-mile journey in a car on its last leg. Along the way they discover what, and who, it’s worth showing up for.

Molina portrays Ellie’s abrasive but lovable father Marcus, with Sterling and Katt as Florence and Bob, two vagabond campers the kids meet along the way.

Molina recently reprised his Marvel role as evil genius Doc Ock in Sony’s Tom Holland-led blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed over $1.9B worldwide, having first played the role opposite Tobey Maguire in 2004’s Spider-Man 2.

He also recently led the Prime Video mystery series Three Pines and has additionally been seen on such series as Angie Tribeca, Feud and Show Me a Hero, to name a few.

The Golden Globe and two-time Emmy-nominated actor has worked consistently since the late 1970s and has appeared on the film side in such acclaimed titles as The Front Runner, Love Is Strange, An Education, Identity, Frida, Chocolat, Magnolia, Boogie Nights and many more.

Sony Pushes Release of Jared Leto’s “Morbius” to April 1

Jared Leto won’t be flying into theaters as originally planned…

Sony has pushed back the release date for the Marvel film Morbius, starring the 50-year-old part-Spanish American Academy Award winning actor and singer.

While the Columbia Pictures title was previously scheduled to open on January 28, it will now hit theaters in IMAX and premium large formats on April 1.

One factor motivating the push, according to Deadline, was Sony’s huge (continuing) success with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which established itself as the highest-grossing film of 2021 upon its December 17 debut.

The Tom Holland film has grossed upwards of $1.37 billion worldwide so far, and it now looks to continue to do big business on the screens previously saved for Morbius.

In Morbius, from director Daniel Espinosa, Leto portrays the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil—or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?

Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson also star in the film, based on the Marvel Comics, which Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless adapted from their own screen story.

Morbius would have opened on its previous date opposite IFC Films’ crime drama, Clean, starring Adrien Brody, Glenn Fleshler, Richie Merritt and Chandler DuPont; Bradley Bell and Pablo Jones-Soler’s Greenwich Entertainment music doc Charli XCX: Alone Together; and Joe Wright’s musical adaptation of Cyrano, starring Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett and Kelvin Harrison Jr., for MGM and United Artists Releasing.

It’s now set to open against Focus Features’ horror drama You Won’t Be Alone, starring Noomi Rapace and Alice Englert; Universal’s Jo Koy comedy Easter Sunday, also starring Jimmy O. Yang, Tia Carrere, Tiffany Haddish and Lou Diamond Phillips; and STX Entertainment’s thriller The Contractor, toplined by Chris Pine.

Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for Cherry, starring the part-Latina actress.

The drama teams Marvel alums Tom Holland and Joe and Anthony Russo in the true life tale of a Iraq War hero who battles PTSD and spirals into addiction and robbing banks upon his return to civilian life.

The film will hit theaters and the streamer on February 26 .

Based on Nico Walker’s novel based on his life story and with a screenplay by Angela Russo-Otstot and Jessica Goldberg, Holland’s Cherry drifts from dropping out of college to serving as an Army medic in Iraq, through it all anchored by his true love Emily (Bravo). But his undiagnosed PTSD spurs bad decisions, shattering his relationship as he falls. Jack Reynor, Michael Rispoli, Jeff Wahlberg, Forrest Goodluck and Michael Gandolfini also star.

The film is a darkly humorous, unflinching coming-of-age story.

It also marks the Russos’ first directing gig since Avengers: Endgame, the highest-grossing movie of all time. This one they financed themselves — like Walker, the brothers are from Cleveland where this movie is set — via their AGBO production outfit.

Apple is making it a big awards-season play after it acquired worldwide rights to the film in September in a deal in the $40 million range.

The 67-year-old half-Spanish actor will return as scientist-turned-villain Otto Octavius a.k.a Doctor Octopus in the forthcoming third installment of Sony/Marvel’s Tom Holland-led Spider-Man franchise.

The Emmy and Golden Globe nominee’s character first appeared in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, starring Toby Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi. A

nd he won’t be the only one from a previous Spidey-verse who’ll make an appearance. Early this year, it was revealed that Jamie Foxx would be returning as Electro from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Jon Watts is back to direct the sequel to the $2 billion-grossing franchise. Stars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori are expected to return as well.

Spider-Man 3 is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2021.

Costa Signs with William Morris Endeavor (WME)

Laia Costa has new representation…

The 31-year-old Spanish actress  has signed with William Morris Endeavor (WME).

Costa recently starred as the title character in Sebastian Schipper’s critically-acclaimed Victoria, a film almost entirely improvised by the actors and shot in one single take.

She also plays the lead in Drake Doremus’ The Newness, opposite Nicholas Hoult, which premieres at the Sundance Film Festival this week.

Previously, Costa had the lead role in the Russian film Fort Ross, directed by Yuriy Moroz and has also starred in Palm Trees in the Snow. She has worked extensively in her native country on local television shows like Cities, the Spanish remake of Brit TV series Dates, Carlos, Rey Emperador and Polseres Vermelles. She also stars in Matthew Brown’s upcoming title Maine and Martin Hodara’s Neive Negra.

Her performance in Victoria has earned her a Lola Award (Germany’s equivalent of an Oscar) as well as a Gaudi Award for Best Actress. She’s also been nominated for a European Film Award for Best European Actress.

Costa is one of five actors competing for the coveted 2017 BAFTA EE Rising Star Award next month, alongside actors Ruth Negga, Lucas Hedges, Tom Holland and Anya Taylor-Joy.
