She portrayed in dastardly drug lord in Oliver Stone’s Savages… But now Salma Hayek’s switching sides.
Dimension Films and Radius-TWC have acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the 47-year-old Mexican actress’ intense action thriller Everly.
Directed by Joe Lynch from a script by Yale Hannon, the film centers in Hayek’s character. She’s described as a down-on-her-luck woman forced to fend off waves of assassins sent by her ex, a dangerous mob boss, while trying to save her estranged mother and daughter.
Togo Igawa, Masashi Fujimoto and Hiroyuki Watanabe also star in Everly, which is slated for a fourth quarter 2014 release.
“We’ve been on the hunt for a female driven action franchise and we’ve finally found it in Everly,” said Radius co-presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego. “Salma is utterly transcendent.”
It’s the latest project from the Oscar-nominated actress to make headlines in recent days.
Hayek previously signed on to star opposite Shohreh Aghdashloo in the thriller The Septembers of Shiraz, the film adaptation of a Dalia Sofer novel.
