It’s the start of something special at BET for Allen Maldonado…
During its upfront event in New York City this week, the cable network announced plans to launch new scripted series The Start Up, which stars the 30-year-old part-Latino actor.
In the series, hip-hop prince Diggy Simmons makes his scripted series debut as Blake Monroe, the founder of TheJetsetters.com, an entertainment and lifestyle blog.
The Start Up focuses on what it means to be young, gifted and digital, as Blake and his friends strategize for fame and financing while navigating the freedoms and pressures of adulthood.
In addition to Simmons and Maldonado, the series also stars Teyana Taylor, Bria Murphy, Chris Brew and Stephanie Charles.
Maldonado’s previous credits include the short-lived television series Chase, Detroit 1-8-7, Rizzoli & Isles, Lie to Me and The Shield, as well as a recurring role on The Young and the Restless.
