Jared Leto to Star in the Spider-Man Universe Spinoff Film “Morbius”

Jared Leto has lined up his next blockbuster…

The 46-year-old part Spanish American actor/singer is set to star in Morbius, a Spider-Man Universe spinoff based on the Marvel Comics antihero Morbius the Living Vampire.

Jared Leto

The film will be helmed by half-Chilean director Daniel Espinosa.

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, creators of Netflix’s Lost in Space, wrote the script.

Leto, who played the iconic character The Joker in DC ComicsSuicide Squad and has been mentioned for a bunch of potential Joker-centric spinoffs, here will play Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who in an attempt to cure a fatal blood disease injects himself with a treatment serum derived from bats. He becomes the anti-hero Morbius. He has all the qualities of a vampire, including a taste for human blood. The character originated in the ’70s Marvel Comics as a Spider-Man nemesis in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, but he evolved into his own freestanding comic hero as the decades unfolded.

Espinosa last directed the sci-fi pic Life, and before that Child 44 and Safe House.

Jared Leto In Talks to Star in Sony’s “Bloodshot”

Jared Leto could be seeing the world through bloodshot eyes…

The 45-year-old part-Spanish American actor, singer-songwriter and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman is in talks to star in Sony’s Bloodshot, based on indie comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment’s IP.

Jared Leto

The project is being directed by Dave Wilson, who is partnered with Deadpool director Tim Miller’s at Blur Studios.

If a deal can be reached, Leto would star as Bloodshot’s protagonist Angelo Mortalli, a ruthless killer for the mob who is set up by the family and framed for murder. He instead goes into Witness Protection, but is betrayed by an FBI agent guarding him, kidnapped and forcibly subjected to an experimental program in which his body is injected with microscopic computers called nanites. They erase his brain and rebuild it and his body to be a weapon with superhuman strength and healing powers.

The character was created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton in 1992.

Sequels are planned for both Harbinger and Bloodshot before the title characters meet in Harbinger Wars, which is based on Valiant’s 2013 comic book crossover.

Leto previously starred as The Joker in Suicide Squad.

Rodriguez Earns MTV Movie & TV Awards Nomination

Gina Rodriguez wants her MTV

The 32-year-old Puerto Rican actress has earned a nomination for the MTV Movie & TV Awards, the renamed MTV Movie Awards. The inaugural telecast — hosted by actor and comedian Adam Devine — will air live on Sunday, May 7.

Gina Rodriguez

Rodriguez is nominated in the Best Actor in a Show for her starring role on The CW’s Jane the Virgin, which earned her a Golden Globe back in 2015.

Meanwhile, Jared Leto has earned a nomination in the Best Villain category for his performance as The Joker in Suicide Squad.

Different from the original awards show, the new format will now include separate categories for TV in addition to film. Another rule change sees actors in both mediums competing against one another for the same awards. The network has also broken down the gender wall with exclusively non-gendered categories — meaning Emma Watson will go up against Hugh Jackman for top performance honors.

Five new categories make this year’s telecast, as MTV hopes to highlight cultural relevancy in today’s society. Aside from the explanatory categories Best Host, Best Reality Competition, and Tearjerker, there will also be awards for Best American Story (awarded to the show or film that shows America at its best, open and diverse) and Best Fight Against the System (formerly known as Best Fight — awarded to the film or show whose characters best exemplify fighting against a system that tries to keep them down).

Leto Gives Jimmy Fallon Terrifying Gift from The Joker

The Joker’s on Jared Leto

It appears the 44-year-old part-Spanish actor/singer’s role as The Joker in the highly anticipated Suicide Squad has taken a hold of him.

Jared Leto

While the tales of Leto’s unhinged, bizarre behavior on the Suicide Squad set have become the stuff of legend, the Oscar-winning actor is having a hard time stepping out of the iconic bad boy persona, as evidenced by his trickster appearance on The Tonight Show on Monday night.

“The Joker is a big giver of gifts,” Leto explained to host Jimmy Fallon while seated on the couch and holding a small black box with a big red ribbon on it. “Have you guys heard about this? And he was thinking of you and wanted to pass off this gift especially for you.”

Fallon was suspicious, noting that he’d read and heard about things The Joker has done like gifting rats, so he approached the box with great caution. Spoiler alert: Jimmy did not like his present.

Carey In Talks to Voice Commissioner Gordon in “The Lego Batman Movie”

Mariah Carey may be going Bat-ty…

The 45-year-old half-Venezuelan American singer/actress is in talks to take on the role of Commissioner Gordon in The Lego Batman Movie, the spinoff of The Lego Movie from Warner Bros.

Mariah Carey

The studio is trying to keep everything under lock and key, but sources tell Deadline.com that Carey will join Ralph Fiennes (Alfred the Butler), Will Arnett (Batman), Michael Cera (Robin), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl) and Zach Galifianakis (The Joker).

Earlier this year, the Grammy-winning songstress aligned herself to a Christmas-themed movie pitch that New Line pre-emptively bought from RatPac Entertainment, writers David Diamond and David Weissman and producer Jon Shestack.

Carey will star in the yuletide themed pic., a natural for the woman who wrote and performed All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the insta-Christmas classic released in 1994 tune that has sold more than 14 million copies globally to become the biggest holiday perennial in recent memory and the biggest international hit of Carey’s career.

Her past screen credits include the Lee Daniels-directed Precious and the box office miss Glitter.

The 42-year-old part-Spanish actor has been cast as The Joker in David Ayer’s DC Comics’ villains team-up Suicide Squad.

With a script by Justin Marks, the film will see an assembly of baddies and anti-heroes brought together by a secretive government group and offered a shot at redemption if they’ll go on a mission. There’s just one slight drawback: they might not survive it.

In addition to Leto, the film will also star Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Meanwhile, Jai Courtney will play Boomerang and Cara Delevingne will play Enchantress.

Ayer will begin shooting the film this coming April in Toronto, aiming for an August 5, 2016 release date.

Warner Bros. will release Suicide Squad in 3D and 2D.
