Smollet’s “Empire” Soundtrack Reaches No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart

Jussie Smollett is a chart-topper…

The 31-year-old Brazilian actor/singer and the stars of Fox‘s Empire have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as the breakout hit series’ soundtrack debuts atop the list.

Jussie Smollett

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

The Empire soundtrack was released March 10 through Columbia Records and bows at the top spot with 130,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending March 15, according to Nielsen Music.

Empire Soundtrack

It’s the first television soundtrack to debut at No. 1 since 2010, when three different Glee albums arrived atop the list.

Empire features contributions from its newcomer cast, like Smollett, as well as hitmakers like Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Rita Ora, Juicy J and Courtney Love (all of which have guest-starred on the show).

Empire earned 17,000 units from track equivalent albums (thanks to the strong performance of the set’s multiple Billboard Hot 100 hit singles like “You’re So Beautiful” and “Conqueror“), while it tallied another 3,000 units from streaming equivalent albums.

Also helping matters: During release week, Smollett performed on TV’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show (March 9) and on Fox’s American Idol three days later (joined by fellow cast member Yazz).

Warner Bros. Officially Renews Bailon’s Daytime Talk Show “The Real”

Adrienne Bailon is staying Real

Warner Bros. has officially announced that the 31-year-old Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian American’s daytime talk show The Real will return for a second season.

Adrienne Bailon

Hosted by Bailon, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Tamar Braxton, Loni Love and Jeannie Mai, the panel talk show already had been cleared in two-year deals on the majority of its stations, and it has done well in its freshman run, with the renewal fully expected.

The formal pickup comes as The Real just set a new series high of 1.54 million average viewers and equaled a series-high household rating (1.2) during the most recent week of available national ratings (week of January 26-February 1). The Real ranks as the No. 1 new syndicated talk show of the 2014-15 television season among women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.

Additionally, The Real, executive produced by SallyAnn Salsano, has done very well online and on social media. For the 2014-15 season, The Real YouTube page has delivered more than 65 million video views, ranking No. 3 among all syndicated talk shows for the year, behind only The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Wendy Williams Show. And in terms of Facebook “likes,” hosts Mowry-Housley (4.8 million) and Tamar Braxton (3 million) rank among the six most popular syndicated talk programs/hosts.

Mars Announces World Tour & Helps Fan Celebrate Prom on “Ellen”

Bruno Mars will be locked out of heaven in a city near you soon…

The 27-year-old part-Puerto Rican Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, who delivered one of the best performances of the night at Sunday’s Grammy Awards,  will be hitting the road in support of his sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox.

Bruno Mars on Ellen

Mars announced his world tour, which is being called the Moonshine Jungle World Tour, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday. The tour will feature British singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding and soul/indie pop band Fitz and the Tantrums to support the “Locked Out of Heaven” singer on select tour dates.

Even though Mars hasn’t released specifics on dates and venues, he did reveal the he’d hit major cities across the U.S. and Canada this summer before taking the show on the road in Europe in the fall.

Mars had hinted about his upcoming tour for weeks on Twitter, where he also told fans last week about the premiere of the music video for his latest single “When I Was Your Man.”

During his stop on Ellen, Mars was invited to the prom by an audience member. Even though he had to decline because of his busy schedule, Mars still managed to, with help from host Ellen DeGeneres, bring prom to her. He even serenaded her with “Always and Forever,” while dancing under a disco ball.

Mars Pays Tribute to Newtown Shooting Victims on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

During his recent visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Bruno Mars have a moving tribute to the victims and families of last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

The 27-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer, who recently reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, opened the show by performing “Count on Me,” a single from his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans, complete with a ukulele.

Supported by a lone back-up singer, Mars flawlessly belted out the fitting tribute after a heartfelt introduction by DeGeneres, who decided to kick-off her show differently following the shooting that killed 26 people including 20 school children on Friday, December 14, a tragedy gripping not just the community in Newtown, but the entire nation.

“I think we can all agree right now we need a lot of love out there,” said DeGeneres as she introduced Mars.

It’s the latest in a series of tributes to the victims of the shooting…

On Sunday, New York Giants star Victor Cruz marked up his shoes with a special message to honor one of the young victims, who happened to be a big Cruz fan.

On Monday, Christina Aguilera and her fellow The Voice coaches joined the show’s hosts and contestants to perform a song to honor the victims while each holding a placard with the name of a victim.

Castellano Inspires Millions with Her Story on “The Ellen Show”

Move over Taylor Swift! There’s a new face representing CoverGirl… Her name: Talia Castellano, an inspiring Latweena with a smile that lights up a room.

During a visit to The Ellen Degeneres Show on Wednesday, the 13-year-old Florida girl battling two forms of cancer was named an honorary Cover Girl, even receiving a framed poster with her likeness. Following her diagnosis some years ago, Castellano learned all about makeup as a way to deal with the disease.

Talia Castellanos

“When I was first diagnosed six years ago, my mom’s friend Tammy… she also is a cancer survivor, she brought me to her house, so we could like bond and talk about stuff,” recalled Castellano to Ellen. “And basically she showed me her makeup and ever since I was like fascinated with the colors and the things and it was just amazing.”

Castellano launched a YouTube page, where she offers tutorials on makeup application. Her helpful tips and bubbly personality have earned her channel, taliajoy18, more than 14.5 million views.

“How do you stay so positive?” DeGeneres asked Talia, whose cancer treatment options, including a bone marrow transplant, are running low.

“When people ask me that, I’m just, ‘What do you want me to do? Be depressed?” said Talia, who’s recently returned from a summer at Sunrise Day Camp, a program dedicated to children with cancer.

“A little fishy just told me, ‘Just keep swimming, just keep swimming,” added Castellano, referring to Ellen’s character Dory, a resident optimist, in 2003′s animated Disney movie Finding Nemo.

CoverGirl also gifted Castellano with a makeup table stocked with the brand’s products, as well as a check for $20,000.

“I’ve always been a really bubbly girl, and my mom always tells me to think about the positive,” Castellano told People magazine last month. “Even though cancer is a negative, horrible thing, there are positives. For people to see that there are kids that get cancer … it’s just a true fact. Me putting a face on it makes a difference.”
