Canto to Star Opposite Kiefer Sutherland in ABC’s Conspiracy Thriller Drama “Designated Survivor”

Adan Canto is a survivor…

The 34-year-old Mexican actor will co-star opposite Kiefer Sutherland in ABC’s straight-to-series conspiracy thriller drama Designated Survivor.

Canto, who emerged as one of the most sought after actors this pilot season, had been pursued for talent holding deals and received seven pilot offers since December until settling on Designated Survivor, signing a deal with the project’s leading studio, the Mark Gordon Company.

Designated Survivor, from ABC Studios, is building a formidable cast, with Canto joining previously cast Sutherland, Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Natascha McElhone and Italia Ricci. Paul McGuigan is directing.

Designated Survivor, written by David Guggenheim and executive produced by Simon Kinberg, centers on Tom Kirkman (Sutherland), a lower level United States Cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession. Canto will play the aggressive deputy Chief of Staff Aaron who advises Kirkman after the attack and guns for a promotion.

Canto has been working continuously on American television over the past couple of years, including playing the male lead in the NBC pilot The Curse of the Fuentes Women last year. His series credits include Narcos, Second Chance, Blood & Oil and The Following.

Canto to Star in ABC’s Fall Drama Series “Blood and Oil”

There will be blood for Adan Canto.

The 33-year-old Mexican actor has been added to the cast of ABC‘s upcoming drama Blood and Oil as a series regular, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne, the drama series follows Billy (Chase Crawford) and Cody Lefever (Rebecca Rittenhouse) who dream of a new life beyond their working-class roots and move to The Bakken in North Dakota, booming after the biggest oil discovery in American history. They’re soon pitted against a ruthless tycoon who forces them to bet big and put everything on the line, including their marriage.

Canto will portray AJ Menendez, taking over the role previously played by Yani Gellman in the pilot. The character is a geologist who has been hired to work with Briggs Oil and advise Hap Briggs (Don Johnson) on the Bakken Oil play. He’ll also help Hap around the ranch and eventually develops a romantic relationship with his daughter, Carla (Amber Valletta).

The cast also includes Delroy Lindo, Scott Michael Foster and India De Beaufort, among others.

Blood and Oil, set to premiere on Sunday, September 27 at 9:00 pm, is produced by ABC Signature.

The casting brings Canto back into the ABC fold following his starring turn on the short-lived comedy series Mixology.

He most recently filmed NBC pilot The Curse of the Fuentes Women, which did not move forward. His credits include Fox‘s The Following and the feature film X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Sonia Braga has been cursed…

The 64-year-old Brazilian actress, best known for her performances in Kiss of the Spider Woman and Moon Over Parador, has landed a regular role in The Curse Of The Fuentes Women, NBC’s drama pilot from Warner Bros. Television.

When a magical and mysterious young man (portrayed by Adan Canto) inexplicably emerges from the ocean, he breathes new passion into the lives of the Fuentes women – the beautiful but lonely Lola (Christina Vidal), her ailing mother Esperanza (Rachel Ticotin) and her troubled daughter Soledad (Katie Sarife). Lola has given up on love and dedicated herself to caring for her daughter Soledad, her mother Esperanza and their floundering family restaurant – until a mysterious stranger enters her life, opening up a world of possibilities.

Braga will play Orquidia, the estranged sister of Esperanza (Ticotin). Orquidia has been harboring an enormous grudge against her sister for decades.

Braga, nominated for three Golden Globes and an Emmy, has appeared on television in Sex and the City, Alias and The Cosby Show.

Rachel Ticotin is cursed…

The 56-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress has landed a lead role opposite Adan Canto in The Curse of the Fuentes Women, the NBC drama pilot written/executive produced by Silvio Horta.

From Warner Bros Television, the film chronicles what happens when a mysterious stranger, Salvador (Canto), washes up on Miami Beach and breathes new passion into the lives of the Fuentes women – the beautiful but lonely Lola, her ailing mother Esperanza (Ticotin), who is struggling with Alzheimer’s and has a secret magical past, and her troubled teen daughter Soledad (Sarife) whose psychic abilities are awakened by an unexpected pregnancy.

Ticotin has appeared in the films: Fort Apache, The Bronx; Total Recall and Con Air. She has appeared in the NBC legal drama Law & Order: Los Angeles.

The project, from Horta’s Silent H Prods. and Warner Bros. Television, chronicles what happens when Salvador (Canto), a mysterious stranger, washes up on Miami Beach and comes into the lives of the Fuentes women, reviving a link to a magical past.

Canto previously co-starred on the ABC comedy Mixology last season, as well as Fox’s first season of The Following.

He also starred in the Hollywood blockbuster X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

NBC has given a pilot order with a green light to the 40-year-old Cuban American writer-producer and Ugly Betty creator’s drama The Curse Of The Fuentes Women.

Written/executive produced by Horta, The Curse Of The Fuentes Women comes from his Silent H Prods. and Warner Bros. Television.

When a magical and mysterious young man inexplicably emerges from the ocean, he breathes new passion into the lives of the Fuentes women – the beautiful but lonely Lola, her ailing mother Esperanza and her troubled daughter Soledad.

Horta received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series for Ugly Betty in 2007. He also won an ALMA Award for Outstanding Writing – Television Series, Mini-Series or Television Movie for the series, which was based on the hit Colombian telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea.

Silvio Horta ready to bring another Latino-themed project to television.

The 40-year-old Cuban American writer-producer and Ugly Betty creator is tapping into his Hispanic roots for another hourlong project.

The Curse Of The Fuentes Women, from Horta’s Silent H Prods. and Warner Bros. Television, has received a script commitment with penalty from NBC.

Written/executive produced by Horta, The Curse Of The Fuentes Women is in the Latin American tradition of magical realism and explores the power of memory and mythology in shaping our destinies. When a young man washes up on Miami Beach claiming to be a long-lost family member from Cuba, he breathes new energy into the lives of grandmother Esperanza Fuentes, daughter Lola and granddaughter Soledad.

Horta, who won an ALMA Award, Writers Guild of America Award and NAACP Image Award for his writing work on Ugly Betty, also developed a drama about a Cuban-American family last year, Bastards at ABC, which he executive produced with Salma Hayek and Mark Gordon.
