Genesis Rodriguez in Negotiations to Star in Third Season of “The Night Agent”

Genesis Rodriguez is making night moves…

The 37-year-old Cuban-Venezuelan actress has entered negotiations for a role in the third season of the hit conspiracy thriller The Night Agent.

Genesis Rodriguez,While specifics as to Rodriguez’s part are being kep under wraps, Deadline reports that Rodriguez will be a series regular.

Production on the third season is set to kick off in Istanbul at the end of this year, with a New York shoot to follow in 2025. Netflix announced the show’s Season 3 renewal in October.

An adaptation of Matthew Quirk’s New York Times bestseller, the first season of which ranks #7 on Netflix’s Most Popular TV chart, The Night Agent sees the FBI’s Peter Sutherland (Basso) manning a phone in the basement of the White House that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that leads all the way to the Oval Office.

In past interviews, creator, showrunner and EP Shawn Ryan has spoken to the fact that each season of the show will be a self-contained story, opening the door to new plot lines and characters with each go-round. Season 1 was set in and around Washington D.C. and filmed in Vancouver, with the second 10-episode season primarily shooting in New York City, with additional filming in Thailand and Washington, D.C. 

The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

In Season 2, Basso is joined by returning Season 1 cast member Luciane Buchanan, as well as newcomers like Amanda Warren, Berto Colon, Louis Herthum, Arienne Mandi, Brittany Snow, and Teddy Sears.

Currently in the midst of a breakout moment with the sophomore season of Lioness, Taylor Sheridan’s spy thriller for Paramount+, Rodriguez plays Captain Josephina Carillo aka this season’s female undercover operative, or “Lioness.” Airing weekly, the show has her going toe to toe with Zoe Saldaña, Morgan Freeman and Nicole Kidman.

Getting her start on NBC Universal/Telemundo’s Prisonera, Dame Chocolate and Dona Barbara, the Miami-born actress has also been seen in Netflix’s series The Umbrella Academy and Neon, as well as Kevin Smith’s The 4:30 Movie.

María Elisa Camargo to Make English-Language Acting Debut in “Off The Grid”

The 38-year-old Colombian-Ecuadorian actress will make her English-language debut in the action-thriller Off The Grid, starring Josh Duhamel and Greg Kinnear.

María Elisa Camargo, In the film, a scientist (Duhamel) steals an experiment and hides off the grid in Europe to prevent it from becoming weaponized. His former research partner (Kinnear), along with an extraction team, is sent in to find him and locate the missing experiment.

Camargo plays Josey, a resilient Colombian immigrant who runs a bed and breakfast with her parents and works as a bartender in the local bar, where her sharp wit have made her a beloved figure in the community.

Red Sea Media is handling sales on the film.

Directed by Johnny Martin, the film is being produced by Luca Matrundola and Richard Salvatore and is executive-produced by Red Sea’s Roman Kopelevich.

The film is currently in post-production. Grindstone has taken domestic rights.

The supporting cast also includes Anna Golja and Michael Papajohn. Production companies also include BondIt, Buffalo 8 and Latigo.

Former X Factor Colombia contestant Camargo is known for leads in Spanish-language series for Televisa, Telemundo, VIX, Amazon and Netflix.

The Mexican singer-songwriter and record producer will perform at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

He’s among a list of just-added performers that includes Gloria Trevi, Prince RoyceChencho Corleone and Proyecto Uno.

The artists join a previously announced lineup that includes Fuerza Regida, Grupo NicheJ Balvin, Pepe Aguilar, Luis Alfonso, Maria Becerra, Xavi and Yandel.

The awards show will broadcast on Sunday, October 20, at 9:00 pm ET on Telemundo. Viewers can also watch on the Telemundo App and Peacock and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.

Both Prince Royce and Gabito Ballesteros are finalists this year. The former is up for three awards, including tropical artist of the year, solo; tropical song of the year for “Cosas de la Peda,” with Gabito Ballesteros, and tropical album of the year for his seventh album Llamada Perdida.

Meanwhile, Ballesteros is a four-time finalist vying for artist of the year, new. He’s up against Young Miko, Tito Double P, Xavi and Oscar Maydon in that category.

Karol G leads the list of finalists with 17 entries in categories including artist of the year, tour of the year, Global 200 Latin artist of the year, and top Latin album of the year for Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season). 

The Billboard Latin Music Awards — the only awards that recognize the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, according to Billboard’s weekly charts — coincide with Billboard Latin Music Week, which returns to Miami October 14-18 with a roster of star speakers including Alejandro Sanz, J Balvin, Young Miko, Pepe Aguilar, Feid, Gloria Estefan, Danny Ocean, Peso Pluma and many more.

Prime Video has renewed Betty la Fea, La Historia Continúa, starring the 51-year-old Colombian actress, for a second season.

Betty la Fea, La Historia ContinúaThe announcement comes on the heels of a big premiere week for the continuation series, as it breaks a new record for the largest global viewership for a Latin American title in the streamer’s history.

It’s now also the most-watched series or film on Prime Video in Colombia.

Betty, La Fea, the Story Continues tells the story of Beatriz Pinzón Solano 20 years after the conclusion of the original show. While an empowered and wiser Betty works hard on rebuilding her relationship with her teenage daughter Mila, her relationship with Armando begins to deteriorate, making her question if she made the right decision 20 years ago.

Orozco reprises her role of Betty alongside Jorge Enrique Abella as Armando Mendoza Sáenz.

Julián Arango, Natalia Ramírez, Lorna Cepeda, Luces Velásquez, Marcela Posada, Mario Duarte, Julio Cesar Herrera, Ricardo Vélez, Alberto León Jaramillo and Estefanía Gómez also reprise their roles from the original.

The original Betty La Fea inspired the popular American version Ugly Betty, starring America Ferrera, that ran for four seasons on ABC. Telemundo most recently produced its own version in 2019, titled Betty in NY, starring Elyfer Torres.

Kali Uchis to Receive Billboard Latin Women in Music’s Rising Star Award

The 29-year-old Colombian American singer and songwriter will be honored at the 2024 Billboard Latin Women in Music program, per Billboard and Telemundo.

Kali UchisThis celebration, which highlights the efforts of Latin women musicians who are “proactively working for positive change, inclusion and gender parity in the music industry,” will see Uchis receive the Rising Star award.

Uchis “has quickly climbed the charts since releasing her first album in 2018,” the statement continues, “earning her this year’s Rising Star honor, a recognition and celebration of an emerging talent’s success in growing their musical prowess and solidifying their place in the industry.”

The singer, songwriter and record producer has successfully alternated between English and Spanish-language projects, while defying music genres with music that blends elements of R&B, neo-soul, pop, and Latin rhythms.

Her smash hit “telepatía” has amassed over 2 billion streams and is the Billboard Hot 100 longest-running Spanish song by a solo act this decade with a 23-week streak.

Uchis joins a list of previously announced honorees for this year that include Camila CabelloGloria Estefan (Legend), Ana Bárbara (Lifetime Achievement), Ángela Aguilar (Musical Dynasty) and Kany García (Spirit of Change).

In the coming weeks, additional honorees and details will be announced for the second annual Billboard Latin Women in Music ceremony, which will be hosted by actress Jacqueline Bracamontes.

The Billboard Latin Women in Music program will air exclusively on Telemundo on Sunday, June 9, at 9:00 pm ET, and will be simultaneously available on the Telemundo app and Peacock.

Amazon’s Prime Video has revealed the premiere date for Betty la Fea: The Story Continues, the sequel to the Colombian telenovela starring the 50-year-old Colombian actress that inspired ABC’s, Ugly Betty.

Betty la Fea: The Story Continues, will see Orozco reprise her role of Betty alongside Jorge Enrique Abello. Returning cast members include Julián Arango, Natalia Ramírez, Lorna Cepeda, Luces Velásquez, Marcela Posada, Mario Duarte, Julio Cesar Herrera, Ricardo Vélez, Alberto León Jaramillo and Estefanía Gómez.

Rodrigo Candamil, Juanita Molin, Zharick León and Sebastián Osorio join the cast.

After the telenovela’s original run, Colombia’s RCN produced a sequel series in 2001 which ran for one season.

Ugly Betty, starring America Ferrera, was inspired by the Colombian telenovela and ran for four seasons on ABC.

Telemundo most recently produced its own version in 2019, titled Betty in NY and starred Elyfer Torres.

The 44-year-old Mexican actress, former model and beauty pageant titleholder and television personality will host the Billboard Latin Women in Music special, which is scheduled to return for its second edition on June 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET via Telemundo.

Bracamontes will return as host for a second time.

Produced at Telemundo Center in Miami, the event captures the essence of Latin culture through dynamic musical showcases and special acknowledgments from leading Latin female artists. It will also be available for simultaneous streaming on the Telemundo app and Peacock.

The recipients of this year’s honors will be revealed at a later time.

Bracamontes holds a prominent position in Latin American television.

She has anchored Telemundo’s broadcasts of prestigious events such as Miss Universe, the Billboard Latin Music Awards and the Latin American Music Awards.

Additionally, she has helmed programs like the dance competition Así se Baila and starred in the popular primetime series La Suerte de Loli.

Furthermore, Bracamontes joined the U.S. Hispanic network as the host of Viva el Mundial y Más, a sports and entertainment show that aired during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, and co-hosted two seasons of the hit music competition La Voz (The Voice).

At last year’s Latin Women in Music event, honors were granted to those who’ve made significant contributions to Latin music and its industry. The recipients included included Shakira as Woman of the Year, Ana Gabriel as Living Legend, Thalia as Global Powerhouse, Maria Becerra as Visionary, Emilia as Rising Star, Evaluna as Tradition and Future and Goyo as Agent of Change.

Gemma Garcia Named Executive Vice President of News at Telemundo

The Latina television executive is returning to Telemundo to lead the Noticias Telemundo news division.

Garcia will oversee news programming, editorial units, digital news properties, newsgathering and bureaus in the United States and Latin America.

Garcia will report to Luis Fernandez, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

Garcia most recently was the head of news at RTVE Play, an OTT service of Spain’s public media company Radio Television Espanola. She previously had several different news leadership positions at Telemundo, including as senior vice president of digital news. She also helped develop and launch initiatives like Planeta Tierra, an environmental reporting unit, and the Axios Latino newsletter.

In a statement, Garcia said that “as we approach historic presidential elections in both the United States and Mexico, I look forward to working with the best team of news professionals in Spanish language television to continue to give Latinos a voice and provide them with all the news and resources they need to make well-informed decisions.”

Fernandez said Garcia “brings impeccable news judgment, invaluable experience as an innovative news leader and an unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality journalism to the Latino community.”

The 40-year-old Venezuelan actor and model has signed with Artists First for representation across all areas.

Rodolfo SalasSalas has become one of the central faces of Netflix’s Latin American expansion, as he most recently starred in the platform’s hit series Fake Profile which follows a woman who creates a sexy profile on the online dating app Spice looking for the man of her dreams. Her dreams quickly turn into nightmares, and Camila ends up falling into a web of sex, lies, and deception. The show is headed into production on its second season in Colombia.

Prior to Fake Profile, he led the Mexican limited series Pact of Silence for Netflix. Next, he’ll star in the Lifetime original movie Padres, which is set to premiere in 2024.

Salas was also a mainstay of Telemundo after emigrating to the United States in 2014. He starred in their series La Fan, Neighborhood Butterfly, Blood of My Land, Betty In NY and most recently, Back To Me.

While not in production overseas, Rodolfo resides with his family in Miami, Florida.

Jacqueline Bracamontes to Serve as a Spanish-Language Co-Host at This Year’s Miss Universe Pageant

The 43-year-old Mexican actress, former model and beauty pageant titleholder will serve as talent for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant, which is set to take place in El Salvador on November 18.

Bracamontes will co-host alongside Danilo Carrera. Joining them are Andrea Meza, Carlos Adyan and Julia Gama.

The English broadcast of the 72nd annual competition will be hosted by former Extra host Maria Menounos alongside returning hosts Olivia Culpo and Jeannie Mai.

Culpo and Mai hosted the competition last year, replacing Steve Harvey, who had previously hosted the show for a number of years.

The competition will air on Roku and Telemundo in the U.S.

Miss Universe began airing on CBS in 1960. After it was acquired by Donald Trump in 1996, it began airing on NBC in 2003 and remained there until 2014. It aired on Fox between 2015 and 2019, before moving to FYI and Telemundo briefly before airing on Fox in 2021.

The 2023 show will be produced by executive produced Sergio Alfaro and his LA-based production company InventTV, as well as Paula Shugart and Anne Jakrajutatip for Miss Universe.

The Miss Universe Organization is now owned by Thailand’s JKN Global Group.

The show will also feature two backstage correspondents: Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Zuri Hall, co-host of Access Hollywood and NBC’s American Ninja Warrior.
