Pedro Tovar Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Songwriters Chart

The Mexican American singer and Eslabon Armado lead vocalist has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Songwriters chart, due to nine writing credits on the latest Hot Latin Songs ranking dated August 1.

The tracks all appear on Eslabon Armado’s new LP Vibras de Noche, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart with 23,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, earning the trio its first leader on the list.

Tovar is credited as the sole songwriter on all nine songs. He’s also credited as a co-producer on the tracks and debuts at No. 2 on the Latin Producers chart.

Of Tovar’s nine writing and producing credits on Hot Latin Songs, “Dame Tu Calor” leads at No. 5.

Tovar’s production partner Maurilio Pineda Jr. is credited as a co-producer on eight of the nine Armado tracks above, sparking the latter’s No. 3 arrival on the Latin Producers chart.

Meanwhile, Tainy logs his 40th week at No. 1 on Latin Producers, powered by eight production credits on the latest Hot Latin Songs chart. Bad Bunny‘s “Yo Perreo Sola” (co-produced with Subelo Neo and Bad Bunny) is tops among them at No. 3.

The weekly Latin Songwriters and Latin Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot Latin Songs chart; As with Billboard‘s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).

Daddy Yankee Tops Billboard Argentina Hot 100 for Sixth Straight Week with “Con Calma”

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican rapper/singer continues to hold the top spot on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 with his single “Con Calma” featuring Snow for a sixth consecutive week.

And now, Katy Perry joins the No. 1 team, thanks to her remix of the song. The song is a debut on the charts for the American singer — giving her the best Hot Shot Debutfor an artist.   

The rest of the top three on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 remain the same as last week, with Pedro Capó feat. Farruko‘s “Calma (Remix)” at No. 2, and the Argentine trap anthem “Tumbando el club (Remix)” by Neo Pistea featuring C.R.O.ObiewanshotYsy ACazzu and more at No. 3. It is the first time three remixes have topped the list.   

Rosalía‘s song with J Balvin and El Guincho, “Con Altura,” climbed 12 places, ending the week at No. 12. Rosalía’s first-ever song on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 entered the chart last week at No. 24.  

BTS gained the most positions in the past seven days. “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey climbed a total of 51 places, now ranking at No. 27. On the day of its release, the video clip accumulated more than 36 million views in 24 hours, setting a YouTube record.

Estelares had the best debut of the week, with Manuel Moretti’s group at No. 69 with the latest single, “Ríos de Lava.”

Finally, “Chica Paranormal” by Paulo Londra re-entered the chart at No. 76, and the Argentinian trapper totaled five songs on the list, including two in the top 10: “Tal vez” at No. 6 and “Adán y Eva” at No. 8.

The Argentina Hot 100 ranks the most popular songs in the country and is compiled by a formula that blends local streaming activity on leading music services such as YouTube, Spotifyand Apple Music, among others, as well as national radio airplay and plays of songs featured on a variety of Argentine TV networks. Streaming data is provided by Nielsen Music, while radio and TV measurement is powered by BMAT/Vericast.

The Billboard Argentina Hot 100 will appear in each monthly print issue and will be refreshed weekly each Wednesday.

de Vita to Receive the Prestigious Billboard Hall of Fame Award

It’s the Fame game for Franco de Vita

The 60-year-old Venezuelan singer-songwriter will be feted with the Billboard Hall of Fame Award at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, which will take place on April 24.

The Billboard Hall of Fame Award is reserved for those artists who’ve achieved global recognition for a career that transcends genre and language.

de Vita is being recognized for his perceptive pop/rock ballads that have brought him international acclaim over his three-decade career.

He’s sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, achieving 11 top 10s and one No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.

One of Latin pop’s most revered artists, de Vita became known as the lead vocalist, keyboardist, and songwriter of the trio Icaro before launching his solo career.

After a string of hits in the 1980s including “Solo Importas Tu,” “Te Amo,” and “Louis,” his song “No Basta” spent six weeks atop the Hot Latin Songs chart in 1991.

Most recently, “Te Pienso Sin Querer,” featuring Gloria Trevi, peaked at No. 17 on Latin Pop Airplay.

de Vita has also composed hit songs for other artists including pop star Chayanne (“Contra vientos y mareas,” “Y Tú Te Vas” and “Un Siglo Sin Ti”); and Ricky Martin (“A Medio Vivir,” “Vuelve,” and “Tal Vez”). Those collaborative works alone have sold more than 30 million albums around the world.

He’s known for his frequent collaborations with a broad spectrum of artists. He performed “The Good Life” with Tony Bennett on the American crooner’s 2012 Duets album. de Vita’s latest production, Vuelve en Primera Fila (Sony Music Latin) features urban artist Wisin, salsero Victor Manuelle and rising Spanish pop singer India Martinez, among others.

de Vita’s Vuelve en Primera Fila tour will take him to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Chile, Paraguay and Argentina this spring. The Venezuelan leg of the tour, planned for March, was cancelled. “With the hope that my country achieves peace and harmony I hold the firm conviction that we will see each other soon,” The artist announced on his Website.
