The 27-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar’s collaboration with DJ Snake, Ozuna and Selena Gomez, “Taki Taki,” has hit the billion streams mark on Spotify.
BMI has announced the winners of its 27th annual BMI Latin Awards, including the 28-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer’s “Taki Taki.”
The winners were announced online after BMI canceled its March 31 awards ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other top winners include songwriter/producer Gaby Music, aka Juan Rivera Vazquez, who won contemporary Latin songwriter of the year for “Taki Taki,” sharing the honor with Ozuna, Dimelo Vi‘s Vicente Saavedra and Jorden “Pardison Fontaine” Thorpe.
Christian Nodal‘s “No Te Contaron Mal,” penned by Edgar Barrera, was named regional Mexican song of the year. The track spent 38 weeks atop Billboard’s Regional Mexican Songs chart.
The regional Mexican songwriter of the year award went to Geovani Cabrera for “A Través Del Vaso,” “El Lujo De Tenerte,” “Segunda Opción” and “Te Darán Ganas De Verme,” bringing his career total to 12 BMI Latin Awards.
The BMI Latin publisher of the year award, for the fifth year in a row, went to Sony/ATV Music Publishing with 16 of the most-performed songs, including “Taki Taki,” “Ambiente,” “Amigos Con Derechos,” among others.

Wisin & Yandel, who were slated to receive BMI’s president’s award this year, will now be honored at the 2021 BMI Latin Awards.
The iHeartRadio Music Awards nominated have been revealed, with the 22-year-old Mexican/Cuban singer picking up six nods, the most of any Latina/o artist.
Cabello earned nods in the Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Lyrics and Best Music Video categories for “Señorita,” her chart-topping collaboration with Shawn Mendes.
Cabello is also up for Best Fan Army, as well as Best Cover Song for her cover of Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved.”
Cardi B has picked up four nods…

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican rapper/singer, a nominee in the Latin Pop/Urban Artist of the Year category,is also up for Best Music Video, Best Remix and Latin Pop/Urban Song of the Year for his hit single“Con Calma.”
Bad Bunny has received three nods…
The 25-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer picked up two nods in the Latin Pop/Urban Song of the Year category, for his single “MIA” featuring Drake, and “Que Pretendes, his collaboration with J Balvin.
Bad Bunny is also up for Latin Pop/Urban Artist of the Year.
J Balvin is also a three-time nominee this year…
The 34-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer is nominated for Latin Pop/Urban Artist of the Year, as well as Latin Pop/Urban Song of the Year for “Que Pretendes” with Bad Bunny, and Best Music Video for “Con Altura” withRosalía and El Guincho.
Spanish singer/songwriter Rosalia, 26, is also nominated for Best New Latin Pop/Urban Artist. She’s nominated alongside Camilo, Guaynaa, Lunayand Sech.
Selena Gomezhas picked up three nods…
The 27-year-old Mexican American singer/actress is up for Best Lyrics for her first-ever chart-topper “Lose You To Love Me.” She’s also up for Best Fan Army and Latin Pop/Urban Song of the Year for “Taki Taki.”
The iHeartRadio Music Awards recognize the most-played names and songs throughout iHeartRadio‘s stations and apps.
Other multiple nominees include Ozuna, Calibre 50, El Fantasmaand Christian Nodal.
Fans will have the opportunity to vote for several categories, including best fan army, best lyrics, best cover song, best music video, best remix, the social star award, favorite tour photographer and the first-ever favorite music video choreography award.

The 28-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer and songwriter’s collaboration with Nicki Minaj, “Tusa,”debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated November 23.
The chart ranks the most popular Latin songs of the week, blending airplay, streaming and digital sales data.
“Tusa” becomes the first song to debut at No. 1 in 2019, and the first song by a female act in a lead role to bow at No. 1 since 2016, when Shakira’s “Chantaje,” featuring Maluma, bowed atop the list. It’s also the first title by two women in a lead role to open atop the chart since its inception in 1986.
“One of my biggest personal challenges was exceeding my expectations and those of my fans, following the release of Ocean,” Karol G tells Billboard. “I couldn’t be happier today seeing that “Tusa” debuts at No. 1 in the U.S. after only one week of its release. I’m especially grateful to Nicki Minaj, to my team for keeping the dream alive, and for continuing in this journey — and to my fans who make all of this a reality.”
In addition to Shakira, Karol G and Minaj, only two other songs with women on a lead role have debuted at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs: Rocio Durcalwith “La Guirnalda” in September of 1986 and Gloria Estefanwith “Hotel Nacional” in January of 2012.
Meanwhile, two other titles with female acts in featuredroles have bowed atop the tally: “Mi Verdad” by Mana featuring Shakira (February 2015) and “Taki Taki” by DJ Snake, featuring Selena Gomez, Ozuna and Cardi B(October 2018).
“Tusa” gives Karol G her third No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs. Her first leader arrived over a year ago through another collaboration: Pitbull’s “Dame Tu Cosita,” with El Chombo, featuring Cutty Ranks(May 2018).
“Tusa,” Colombian slang for heartbreak, was released on November 7 in conjunction with the song’s music video and was produced by Ovy on the Drumsand written by him, Karol G, Minaj and Keytin. It soars to No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs mainly on the strength of streaming activity and digital sales.
The song logged 9.5 million U.S. streams in its first week (ending November 14), according to Nielsen Music and bows at No. 1 on the Latin Streaming Song chart. It’s just the second song to debut at No. 1 on the list in 2019, following “China,” the former nine-week ruler, where Karol G also takes a lead role alongside Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna and J Balvin.
“Tusa” concurrently starts at No. 78 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100chart, becoming Karol G’s fourth chart entry.
The song was presented for the first time during the 2019 Latin Grammyweek, as part of a Google Pixel 4motion sense experiment alongside DJ Feloat The Palms, on November 14.

The Spanglish track released via DJ Snake/Geffen/Interscopeon June 14, lands in the penthouse in its 14th week on the chart with 12.7 million in audience impressions (up 1%) earned in the week ending October 27, according to Nielsen Music.

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer’s latest single “China,” featuring Daddy Yankee, Karol G, Ozuna and J Balvin, rises 2-1 in just its third week on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated August 17.
It’s the fastest climb to the top in 2019 and the quickest ascent since Bad Bunny’s “MIA,” featuring Drake, jumped 9-1 in its second week (October 27, 2018).

“China” is a reimagination of Shaggy’s 2000 hit “It Wasn’t Me.” It was produced by Tainy and co-written by the five artists on the track.
It opened at No. 2 just three weeks ago, on the August 3-dated list.
“The artists on this track give it an elevated presence right out of the gate given the caliber of each individually and the power they present here collectively,” Ismael Santa Cruz, Vice President, Managing Director Radio Strategy at Univision Communications, tells Billboard. “The fact that the track samples a hit from 19 years ago also helps it build a foundation from which to grow on.”
Despite the song’s decline in streaming activity and digital sales (in the week ending August 8, according to Nielsen Music), “China” moves thanks to 6% boost in audience impressions (to 8 million) earned in the week ending August 11.
The Hot Latin Songs chart ranks the most popular Latin songs of the week, blending streaming, sales and airplay data.
“‘China’ is the strongest song of my career up to date,” Anuel AA told Billboard on July 12. “It’s the mix of different cultures with each of the collaborators contributing with its own flow. I had been looking to revive a classic and when I heard Shaggy’s mix, it hit me.”
“China” is Anuel AA’s third leader, Daddy Yankee’s seventh, Karol G’s second, Ozuna’s fourth, and J Balvin’s sixth. Notably, Karol G becomes the first core Latin female artist to secure a No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs tally in over a year — since Karol herself led the list. Her first No. 1 arrived on May 12, 2018, with “Dame Tu Cosita,” a co-billed track with Pitbulland El Chombo, featuring Cutty Ranks. It topped the list for two weeks.
“The inclusion of Karol G helped the track,” Santa Cruz adds. “It was important to include a female artist in the song. This is a great time for female artists in the Latin rhythmic space as they are driving a lot of momentum and bringing a fresh sound.”
Prior to Karol G, the last time a core Latin female artist ranked at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs was way back in early 2017, when Shakira’s “Chantaje,” featuringMaluma, wrapped up 10 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the February 11, 2017-dated list.
Since then, three women who traditionally have only charted with English-language recordings have claimed the crown: Selena Gomezand Cardi B(featured on DJ Snake‘s “Taki Taki,” alongside Ozuna; 13 nonconsecutive weeks starting October 13, 2018) and Beyoncé (featured on J Balvin and Willy William‘s “Mi Gente”; 10 consecutive weeks starting October 21, 2017).
Beyond “China’s” coronation on Hot Latin Songs, the tune also climbs to a new high on the Latin Digital Songs Salesand Latin Streaming Songschart through an equal 2-1 boost.
On the all-genre BillboardHot 100, “China” lifts 44-43.
The 26-year-old Puerto Rican urban superstar has reached a new milestone: He now holds the record for the artist with the most YouTube videos with more than 1 billion views as a lead artist, featured artist or collaborator.
Ozuna now has seven spots on the list thanks to “Taki Taki” joining the Billion Views Club, putting him ahead of Justin Bieber.

The fiery music video for the bilingual track, which has the fierce foursome dancing in a lava-drenched crater of a volcano, has racked up 1 billion views on the streaming platform.
Cardi B and the gang managed the staggering feat in a mere 16 weeks.
Upon hearing the news, Cardi B chimed in with a “DOPE” via an Instagram Story.
“Taki Taki” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated October 13, 2018, where it went on to spend a whopping 13 weeks at the summit.
It also topped the Dance/Electronic Songs chart, and currently sits at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100.

He’s also the first DJ/producer to be No. 1 in a lead role on a track since Willy William — another DJ/producer of French descent — topped the list with “Mi Gente.” The latter, credited to J Balvinand Willy William (and featuring Beyoncé on a popular remix), was No. 1 for 12 nonconsecutive weeks between September 16 and December 16, 2017.
