Sofia Vergara Lending Voice to Illumination’s Animated Film “Despicable Me 4”

It’s a despicable time for Sofia Vergara.

The 51-year-old Colombian actress is starring in Illumination’s Despicable Me 4, the first Despicable Me film in seven years that sees Gru, the supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League-agent, return with his Minions.

Sofia VergaraFollowing the 2022 summer blockbuster of Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gruwhich earned almost $1 billion worldwide, the animated franchise now begins a new chapter as Gru (Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their girls —Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan)—welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad.

Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run.

The film features new characters voiced by Joey King, Stephen Colbert and Chloe Fineman.

Pierre Coffin returns as the iconic voice of the Minions and Steve Coogan returns as Silas Ramsbottom.

Despicable Me 4 is directed by a co-creator of the Minions, Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets), and is produced by Illumination’s founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Brett Hoffman (executive producer, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Minions: The Rise of Gru).

The film is co-directed by Patrick Delage, and the screenplay is by Mike White and the veteran writer of every Despicable Me film, Ken Daurio.

Barrio’s “The Trip to Spain” to Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival

The third installment of Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip series, The Trip to Spainstarring the Spanish actress, will debut theatrically on August 11.

In addition to Barrio, the IFC Films release also stars Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon and Claire Keelan. will make its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22.

After jaunts through northern England and Italy, Coogan and Brydon embark on another deadpan culinary road trip in Spain. Over plates of pintxos and paella, the pair exchange barbs and their patented celebrity impressions, as well as more serious reflections on what it means to settle into middle age.

The Trip was released in June 2011 and grossed $2M while its sequel The Trip to Italy made close to $3M stateside, close to $6M overall worldwide, in August 2014.

Royo Lands Recurring Role on Showtime’s Comedy Pilot “Happyish”

The 46-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor has landed a recurring role on Showtime’s comedy pilot Happyish as a recurring.

Described as a comedic, soul-searching examination of our pursuit of happiness, Happyish centers on Thom Payne (portrayed by Steve Coogan) – a 44-year-old man whose world is thrown into disarray when his 25-year-old “wunderkind” boss arrives. Kathryn Hahn and Bradley Whitford co-star, with Carrie Preston and Molly Price on board in recurring roles.

Royo, best known for his role as Reginald “Bubbles” Cousins on HBO’s The Wire, will portray Barry, a former corporate lawyer who followed his heart to the Family Court, only to find it even more depressing than Corporate Law was.

His other television credits include appearances on Fringe, Party Down and How to Make It in America.

Ruehl to Star in ABC’s Legal Drama Pilot “Doubt”

Mercedes Ruehl has no doubt what her next television project will be…

The 65-year-old part-Cuban Oscar– and Tony-winning actress has signed on to star opposite Steve Coogan and Carla Gugino in ABC’s legal drama pilot Doubt.

From Sony Pictures Television, the project centers on Vincent (portrayed by Coogan), a former police officer who is now a cunning but charming low-rent lawyer using his street smarts to work the system for his clients while battling his own demons and wooing his ex-wife Linda (Gugino).

Ruehl will portray Mrs. Syn Newman, a lawyer who works and constantly bickers with her husband (John Pankow) in offices they rent from Vincent. Though frequently exasperated by her landlord, she also considers him a son and her frustration with him never dampens her desire to fight alongside him.

Ruehl, who has an upcoming guest-starring role in the episode of TNT’s Monday Mornings, has guest-starred in Law & Order, Psych and Entourage.

The Fisher King star will next be seen in the film Chu And Blossom.
