Jimmy Smits to Take Part in This Year’s Stand Up To Cancer SU2C Fundraising Special

The 68-year-old half-Puerto Rican actor will take part in this year’s Stand Up To Cancer SU2C fundraising special that’s set to air on Saturday, August 19 at 8:00 pm ET.

LawNYPD Blue and The West Wing, other celebrities making a special appearance during the show include Elizabeth Banks, Jessica Biel, Don Cheadle, Katie Couric, Danai Gurira, Tony Hale, Ken Jeong, Maria MenounosJulianne Moore, Tig Notaro, Eric Stonestreet and Justin Timberlake.

A special montage of comedic skits from past shows will feature Jack Black, Ben Falcone, Zach Galifianakis, Brad Garrett, Bill HaderJon HammKevin Hart, Ed HelmsMelissa McCarthy, and Matthew McConaughey.

The televised special will also feature past musical performances from the likes of Brittany Howard, Simone Ledward Boseman, and The Who.

The one-hour televised celebration entitled “How It Started, How It’s Going” will recognize SU2C’s impact and progress over the last 15 years.

“We started this movement in 2008 to save lives and it is remarkable to see that in 15 years our scientists have accomplished this goal through breakthrough research that intercepts and treats cancer in ways we never thought possible,” said Katie Couric, SU2C co-founder. “There is more work to do to cure cancer and every dollar counts; we will not stop until we make every cancer patient a long-term survivor.”

The biennial special will air simultaneously on more than 50 participating media platforms across the United States and Canada, including all four major broadcast networks in the U.S. Broadcasters carrying the show are donating one hour of simultaneous commercial-free prime time. The telecast will also be available on-demand on several streaming platforms.

The 49-year-old Colombian actress and former Modern Family star will serve as a co-host for this year’s the seventh biennial televised fundraising special Stand Up To Cancer.

Vergara will co-host the event alongside Anthony Anderson, Ken Jeong & Tran Ho.

Set to air Saturday, August 21 at 8:00 pm ET, this year’s Stand Up To Cancer event will be broadcast from Los Angeles and air simultaneously on more than 60 participating media platforms across the United States and Canada.

The telecast will also be available to stream live and on-demand on several streaming platforms.

The event, co-executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, will see performances by Common, Brittany Howard and more artists that will be announced at a later date.

Stand Up To Cancer seeks to raise funds to support research and new treatments of cancer, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected nearly every aspect of cancer care and research.

The 26-year-old half-Mexican American actor is set to co-host #Up2Us: Stand Up To Cancer | The Digital Live Show alongside Max Greenfield and Brenda Song. 

It’s Stand Up to Cancer’s first live digital pre-show on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and iHeartMedia’s social platforms.

Thebiennial fundraising event will begin at 7 PM ET/ 4 PM PT on Friday, September 7, leading into the 2018 televised roadblock special, which airs live from 8-9 PM ET/PT / 7 PM CT across the Big Four networks and more than 60 other broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. Both will originate from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

The hour-long Digital Live Show will feature cancer survivors, influencers and stars from digital, TV, film, and music, including Rhett + Link, Uzo Aduba,Beth Behrs, Paris Berelc, Katie CouricHannah Hart, Olivia Holt, Ken Jeong, Liza Koshy, My Nguyen, Teni Panosian,Candice Patton, Andrea Russett, iHeartRadio’sJoJo Wright, Mackenzie and Maddie Ziegler. Additional stars and performers will be announced in the coming days.

Stand Up To Cancer’s aim is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives.

The Digital Live Show is being produced by Telescope, described as a specialist in live content creation and audience engagement technology for new digital platforms.

Lenny Kravitz will perform Monday night at the Major League Baseball Players Association party in Miami.

Rapper Lil Jon was to perform at the All-Star 5K on Saturday night and Don Omar at the All-Star Zumba experience on Sunday, when Flo Rida is to give a show at Marlins Park between the All-Star Futures Game and the celebrity softball game.
