Sony Pictures to Release Arturo Castro’s “The Broken Hearts Gallery” One Week Later

Sony Pictures has pushed the release of the 34-year-old Guatemalan actor’s romantic comedy “The Broken Hearts Gallery” back a week.

Instead of opening on Friday, July 10, the film will now be released on Friday, July 17.

Sony Pictures says the movie will still be the first wide release of the summer.

The 37-year-old Mexican actor and producer, on the rise after starring in and executive producing Netflix’s first Spanish-language original series Club de Cuervos and stealing scenes in the streamer’s Adam SandlerJennifer Aniston film Murder Mystery, has signed with William Morris Endeavor (WME).

The move comes as Méndez shoots the Focus Features film Half Brothers.The comedy, which he developed with co-writersEduardo CisnerosJason Shumanand director Luke Greenfield, revolves around two very different half-brothers (Méndez and Connor Del Rio) forced on a road trip together masterminded by their ailing father, tracing the path their dad took as an immigrant from Mexico to the U.S.

Méndez also will appear in Sony’s Charlie’s Angels reboot, which hits theaters on November 15. 

His previous film credits in Mexico include the Netflix boxing drama Bayoneta and the Warner Bros. comedy The Noble Family, which grossed $26 million there in 2013. He also co-starred in the 2014 biographical film Cantinflas, which became the highest-grossing foreign-language film in the U.S. that year.

Club de Cuervos’ fourth and final season hit the streamer in January.

Méndez continues to be repped by manager Kenny Goodman at Goodmanagementand attorney Rick Genow.

Sony has set a June 14, 2019 release date for Columbia Pictures’ comedic sci-fi actioner, which F. Gary Gray has directed from a screenplay by Art Marcumand Matt Holloway

Whereas the original films were centered in New York City, the new take sees Agent M (Thompson) join the covert MIB organization dedicated to policing the alien population hiding in plain sight on Earth. She is partnered with Agent H (Hemsworth) in the London bureau to stop a potential global catastrophe. 

Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson also star.

Camila Cabello to Make Acting Debut in “Cinderella” Musical

The 22-year-old Cuban and Mexican American singer and former Fifth Harmony member has been tapped to star in a new iteration of Cinderella, written and to be directed by Pitch Perfect scribe Kay Cannon

Cabello will portray the lead in the reimagining of the classic fairy tale Cinderella from Sony Pictures. The film will reportedly border on the edge of a full-blown musical. 

The project, which is on the fast track for production, is based on an original idea from late night host James Corden who producing the film with Leo Pearlmanunder their Fulwell73 shingle. 

This will mark Cabello’s film acting debut. 

The Grammy-nominated “Havana” singer will also be involved in the music for the film.

Noah Centineo In Talks to Portray He-Man in “Masters of the Universe”

The 22-year-old part-Latin American actor, who who gained acclaim for his roles in Netflix’s film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Freeform’s The Fosters, is in talks to take on the lead role of He-Man in Masters of the Universe, the film adaptation Mattel Films is developing with Sony Pictures.

It’s based on the best-selling toy line from the 1980s that spawned an animated TV show and a 1987 feature with Dolph Lundgrenas He-Man. 

Adamand Aaron Neeare attached to direct the film and are writing the script with Art Marcumand Matt Holloway.

He-Man is a muscular medieval kind of guy who is trying to ward off the nasty Skeletor and his dark armies as both good and evil fight for control of Castle Grayskull

Currently, Masters of the Universe is slated for a December 20 release. 

Centineo recently began production on Netflix’s TATBILB sequel and is set to appear later this year in Sony’s Charlie’s Angels reboot.

Rosario Dawson to Star in “Zombieland 2”

Ruben Fleischer returns to direct the sequel fresh off of the blockbuster success of Venom.

Written by original Zombieland scribes Paul Wernickand Rhett Reese, the sequel centers on the comic mayhem that stretches from the White Houseand through the heartland. The zombie slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. Most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

Dawson joins franchise newcomers Zoey Deutchand Avan Jogiawith filming slated to begin this week. 

Zombieland 2 hits theaters on October 11.

Paola Nuñez to Star in Sony Pictures’ “Bad Boys for Life”

The 40-year-old Mexican actress will star in Sony PicturesBad Boys for Lifestarring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

The new installment centers on the Miami PDand its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas (Jacob Scipio), head of a drug cartel. Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature.

Nuñez will take on the role of Rite, the tough and funny criminal psychologist who is the newly appointed head of AMMO and Mike’s former girlfriend- and the one who got away.

Adil El Arbiand Bilall Fallahare directing the film, which will bow in theaters on January 17, 2020.

It was previously announced that Alexander LudwigVanessa Hudgens, and Charles Melton have also joined the film in supporting roles as members of a modern, highly specialized police unit.

Peter CraigJoe Carnahan, and Chris Bremmercrafted the script. Jerry Bruckheimerwill produce the film.

Production is to commence next month.

Nuñez, who is widely known for her performances across Latin American television, features and theatrical platforms, recently starred opposite Pierce Brosnanon the first season AMC western series, The Son, which will return for a second season in 2019. 

Michael Peña to Star in the Film Adaptation of the Classic Television Series “Fantasy Island”

The 42-year-old Mexican American actor has been tapped to portray the iconic Mr. Roarke in the Sony Pictures and Blumhouse-produced Fantasy Island film adaptation from director Jeff Wadlow.

Peña will take on a role that was originated by Ricardo Montalban when the television series, from Aaron Spelling, launched in 1978 on ABC.

Mr. Roarke, joined by his sidekick, Tattoo (Hervé Villechaize), was the mysterious overseer of the island who granted the fantasies of visitors for a price. Created by Gene Levitt, the series dealt with dark themes and the supernatural as visitors come to the island to live out their fantasy wishes.

Wadlow co-wrote the screenplay with Truth or Dare scribes Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs.

Sony holds the rights to property and will distribute.

Peña has had a solid 2018 lineup appearing in blockbusters like A Wrinkle in Time and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Up next, he co-stars opposite Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper in The Mule at WB, and is part of the main cast of the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s Narcos.

Peña is also currently in production on Paramount’s Dora The Explorer live-action film.

Noah Centineo to Star in Sony Pictures’ “Charlie’s Angels” Reboot

The 22-year-old part-Puerto Rican actor will star in Sony PicturesCharlie’s Angels reboot.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks, the film stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scottand Ella Balinska and will focus on the next generation of elite crime-fighting detectives working for the mysterious Charlie.

Centineo’s character develops romantic sparks with one of the Angels.

Since the earlier Charlie’s Angels films, the Townsend Agency has grown considerably and gone global, providing security and intelligence services to a wide variety of private clients with offices and highly trained teams worldwide. The new film focuses on one of those teams.

Banks, Djimon Hounsou, Sam Claflin, Jonathan Tucker, Luis Gerardo Méndez and Patrick Stewart co-star in the reboot, which was scripted by Jay Basu and Banks based on earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Semi Chellas.

Sony has set a September 27, 2019, release date for the reboot.

Centineo, known for his roles in the final three seasons of the television series The Fosters, recently starred in back-to-back Netflix rom-coms To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

Centineo next appears in rom-com feature The Stand-In.

Esai Morales Lands Recurring Role on CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles”

The 55-year-old Puerto Rican actor has landed a recurring role on the upcoming tenth season of CBSNCIS: Los Angeles.

Morales will play Deputy Director Gaines. Smart, authoritative, polished and trustworthy, Gaines accompanies a special prosecutor from the Department of Defense who is investigating the NCIS office and its employees. He is there to protect his people and advise them on how to navigate the prosecutor’s interviews. The character will be introduced in a late October episode.

“Following the rescue mission in Mexico from last season’s finale and this season’s premiere, our NCIS: Los Angelesteam will face challenging repercussions but they will have a new ally in the Deputy Director,” said executive producer R. Scott Gemmill. “We are thrilled that the talented Esai Morales has signed on to this recurring role.”
