Vergara’s Latest Venture: Saving Lives!

She may be known for her comedic chops… But Sofía Vergara’s next venture is no laughing matter.

The 39-year-old Colombian actress is partnering with Mexican American boxer Oscar de la Hoya to launch a website aimed at educating Hispanic families on the health issues that affect the Latino population most, including diabetes, lupus and asthma.

“There are 50 million Hispanics in this country and there’s no resource like this and we need it,” affirmed Vergara in an interview with PrimeraHora.com. “It’ll be something revolutionary to better and save lives.”

For the Modern Family star, the decision to launch the site is quite personal. About 11 years ago, doctors told Vergara that she had thyroid cancer. As a survivor, she has to undergo a series of intensive medical checkups each year to make sure she’s healthy.

“I take good care of myself and am very aware of any change in my health,” declares Vergara. “Thank God I am well and as head of the household and as a woman, this is something I have to take very seriously.”

No word on a launch date for the website.

Vergara’s Selling the Farm… State Farm!

“Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara is having a banner year when it comes to her endorsement deals… And, it just keeps getting better.

The 39-year-old Colombian bombshell has signed on to appear in a commercial to promote State Farm’s auto and life insurance products. Part of the company’s “Mejora tu Estado” campaign, the spot features the Emmy-nominated actress—as her “Modern Family” character, Gloria Delgado—being dramatic while discussing possible insurance discounts with a State Farm agent.

“I’m proud to be associated with State Farm,” professes Vergara, who stole the spotlight at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. “It’s a company with a solid history of supporting  Hispanic Americans in this country and we know [the company] will always be there when we most need it.”

But this isn’t Vergara’s only endorsement deal this year…

Earlier this year, she was named the new face of CoverGirl—her first ever campaign for the cosmetics company. Her advertisements will debut in January 2012.

In April, Vergara appeared in a Diet Pepsi‘s  “Sweet Tweet” commercial soccer superstar David Beckham.

In September, Vergara launched her own K-mart clothing line, which targets “soccer moms.”

Vergara’s State Farm commercial, which should showcase her comedic chops once again, will premiere in the coming weeks.

Best Dressed Latinas at the Emmys

She may have lost in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy category to fellow “Modern Family” castmate Julie Bowen, but Sofia Vergara proved to be the night’s biggest winner on the red carpet at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

Vergara sizzled at tonight’s Emmy Awards at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre in a coral, one-shoulder gown by Vera Wang that hugged her curvas in all the right places. She capped off the look with “huge!” chandelier earrings and an eye-catching gold cuff.

“The most exciting part of my outfit is my Colombian emeralds,” said the 39-year-old Colombian bombshell of her ensemble.

But Vergara wasn’t the only Latina representin’. Here’s a look at some of the night’s other Latina standouts!

There’s nothing naughty to say about “Glee” bad girl Naya Rivera’s sleek and sophisticated Emmy look. The half Puerto Rican actress is absolutely stunning in a head-turning black dress. And, the side pockets and bodice embellishment—not to mention the shimmering purple nail polish—give the dress a modern edge. Extra kudos to the 24-year-old actress/singer for letting the dress do all the talking with her sleek updo and minimal jewelry.

Sofia Vergara wasn’t the only one with scarlet fever at the Emmys. “Glee” star Lea Michele chose a fire-engine-red gown by Marchesa. The sleek backless dress featured ornately layered shoulders and a dreamy mermaid silhouette. The 25-year-old half-Spanish actress finished off her look with a large cocktail ring and Roger Vivier pumps.

Parks and Recreation” star Aubrey Plaza is known for his comedic timing. But there’s nothing funny about how she looked at the Emmys! The 27-year-old half Puerto Rican actress/singer channels her romantic side in a cream-colored halter dress by Juan Carlos Obando. Not only does the gown highlight her svelte waistline, it highlights her strong shoulders and toned arms. And her retro, parted-to-the-side locks and dark eye makeup help add a little extra drama to her look.

So who do you think took home top honors on the red carpet at the Emmys?
