Vergara Named The World’s Most Desirable Woman

Move over Blake Lively! There’s a new most desirable woman in the world… And, her name’s Sofia Vergara.

Ask Men has conducted a round up of the “Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2012,” with the 39-year-old Colombian bombshell—who ranked as one of the best dressed starlets at this years SAG Awards—taking the top spot after more than one million readers cast their votes.

Sofia Vergara

The men’s website says when it comes to Colombian imports, none are more in demand than Vergara—who ranked No. 3 on the 2011 list. Despite the Modern Family star’s obvious assets, says Ask Men, she’s one very funny woman.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez storms the chart at No. 14. The 19-year-old half-Mexican actress/singer may be a former Disney Channel star, but she’s quickly become tween royalty, thanks to her high profile relationship with Justin Bieber. And, she’s a star in her own right with hit singles like “Hit the Lights” and roles like Gomez’s upcoming image-shattering part in a spring-break-themed film.

In all, this year’s list includes a large Latina contingent. Here’s a look at the Latinas making the final cut:

Michele Takes Best Dressed Honors at the SAG Awards… By a Leg…

Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards weren’t just a night to celebrate the year’s most standout performances in primetime television and film… They were also the perfect opportunity for Hollywood’s brightest luminaries to display their oh-so-haute style.

From Emma Stone to Michelle Williams, the starlets flaunted their style on the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium. But in the end, the delegation of Latina leading ladies ruled the night of a thousand stars with their bold fashion choices.

Lea Michele at the SAG Awards

Lea Michele
She may play a more conservative character on Glee, but there’s nothing traditionalist about Lea Michele’s skintight Versace dress, which showed off a daring amount of leg. The 25-year-old part-Spanish actress/singer—the new face of Candie’s—paired her jaw-dropping dress with blinding bling from Lorraine Schwartz, Casadei shoes and a Fendi bag. In the end, Michele’s bold choice gave her a leg up on her style competition… and the title of this year’s “best dressed at the SAG Awards.”

Sofia Vergara at the SAG Awards

Sofia Vergara
She may have lost the SAG Award for best actress in a comedy series to Betty White, but Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara was a big winner on the red carpet. The 39-year-old Colombian actress—a perennial best-dressed honoree—looked pretty hot in her hot pink Marchesa gown that showed off her sexy curvas. Vergara paired her strapless fuschia dress with dazzling Lorraine Schwartz jewels. And, she did end up a winner in the end, as Modern Family claimed the best ensemble cast in a television comedy series award for a second year.

Bérénice Bejo
Bérénice Bejo,
this season’s Golden Globes red carpet superstar, didn’t disappoint at the SAG Awards. The 35-year-old Argentine actress, nominated for her role in The Artist, wore an ivory tulle beaded Ralph Lauren Collection gown with a plunging neckline. To keep eyes from wandering too far south, Bejo wore a gorgeous Chopard necklace.

Naya Rivera at the SAG Awards

Naya Rivera
Talk about taking the plunge! Glee’s Naya Rivera turned heads in this metallic Naeem Khan gown with its plunging neckline. The 25-year-old singer/actress, who performs a rousing rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” during this week’s episode of Fox’s musical dramedy, paired the ice blue gown with Neil Lane jewels.

Zoe Saldana at the SAG Awards

Zoë Saldaña
Zoë Saldaña
wasn’t afraid to go old school and high fashion on this year’s red carpet. The 33-year-old Colombiana star, who recently rushed to the aid of woman injured in a car accident, donned a sequined white silk organza Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown with a drop waist and floral detailing. Saldaña capped off her look with Tiffany and Co. jewels.

Zoë Saldaña Receives NAACP Image Award Nod

Zoë Saldaña has received an NAACP Image Award nod for playing a stone-cold assassin in Colombiana.

The 33-year-old half-Dominican/half-Puerto Rican American actress, currently at work on the latest Star Trek film, will face off against Pariah’s Adepero Oduye, The Help’s Emma Stone, Jumping the Broom’s Paula Patton and The Help’s Viola Davis at the 43rd Annual NAACP Image Awards.

Hayek: The Golden Globes’ Top Trendsetting Beauty

The red carpet at this year’s Golden Globes was the place to witness some of the hottest beauty trends brought to vibrant life… And, Latina celebrities like Salma Hayek were ahead of the trend with their flawless skin, makeup and hair.

Hispanically Yours’ guest beauty editor Yara Ocasio—a Tampa Bay-based hair & makeup artist—paid close attention to all the action on la alfombra roja for an important trend spotting mission. And, the oh-so-talented Puerto Rican stylista shares her thoughts on the night’s most fashion-forward looks that you should try yourself:

While watching the red carpet arrivals at the 69thAnnual Golden Globes, I spotted some fabulous looks, as well as some not so fabulous one. I think some of Hollywood’s bright stars need my number. Call me! (I’m whispering it while willing the phone to ring!)

While some Latina celebrities sported bright lips, others opted for neutral colors. But, what they all seemed to have in common… natural looking makeup. No one really elected to lay on the heavy makeup.

Here’s a look at my three standout starlets and the beauty trends they rocked:

Salma Hayek at the 2012 Golden Globes

Salma Hayek
There’s only one word to describe Salma Hayek… “Perfection!” The 45-year-old Mexican  actress—who was one of the night’s fashion standouts in her black and gold Gucci  gown—was my absolute favorite of the evening. Hayek dazzled in eye-catching eye makeup in shades of gold, brown and beige. She completed the simple-but-beautiful look with just a tad of blush and a perfect shade of lip color. And, can we talk about that hair? So soft and natural! And she rocked two tones like nobody’s business. Hayek’s beachy, loose waves were a definite theme of the night, with fellow actresses Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Biel and Laura Dern sporting the carefree but sexy look.

Naya Rivera at the 2012 Golden Globes

Naya Rivera
While Naya Rivera’s slinky grey dress with a dominating large seam down the front didn’t land her on many best-dressed lists, her face looked flawless. The 24-year-old part-Puerto Rican Glee star, the new spokesperson for Proactiv, has such a beautiful visage. Rivera elected to keep her eye makeup subtle and focusing more attention on the apples of her cheeks and her luscious lips. Personally, I’m a true fan of black hair and red lips. After all, the color red is one this season’s sexiest trends… And, it never gets old! One word: Stunning!

Sofia Vergara at the 2012 Golden Globes

Sofia Vergara
There’s no denying this sexy Latina, who gave one of the night’s most memorable acceptance speeches, looked spectacular. While Vergara’s eye makeup was kept to a minimum, the 39-year-old Colombian actress set fire to her lips with an oh-so-haute berry lip shade. The colors completely complimented her skin! And the Modern Family star wasn’t the only one rocking trendy and sexy fiery-red lips. Stars like Claire Danes and Missi Pyle joined suit! But Vergara, who looked stunning in her custom Vera Wang dress, did have one slight miss. Her hair left me slightly disappointed. Otherwise, she was thisclose to perfection.

So now that you’ve seen my top three Golden (Globes) girls, here’s some advice to help you be an absolute beauty…

Never be afraid of makeup, try something new as often as possible; you might just fall in love with that new shade. And, don’t forget the hair completes the look. But most of all, remember to always make it your own!

Yara OcasioYara Ocasio, one of Tampa Bay’s rising beauty stars, is a double-threat makeup artist and hair designer who had a passion for beauty, fun designs and an eye for fashion since she was a youngster. A licensed cosmetologist with more than seven years experience, Ocasio has had a fascination with makeup since she started modeling at the age of 15. And she has been doing makeup ever since. Ocasio has extensive training and has worked with Mary Kay, Guerlain, Bare Escentuals and MAC Cosmetics. After working for different cosmetics companies and hair salons, she decided to venture out on her own launch El Shaddai Makeup and Hair Designs, a company that focuses on special events like commercial and editorial photo shoots and commercials, weddings, quinces, fashion shows and more. She has even created how-to videos for Tyra Banks’ website typef.com. Click here to visit El Shaddai’s Facebook page.

Vergara’s Acceptance Speech: A “Golden” Globes Moment…

She may have lost the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV… But Sofia Vergara still managed to give one of the night’s most memorable acceptance speeches at the Golden Globes on Sunday night.

The 39-year-old Colombian actress—one of the night’s best dressed starlets in her oh-so-form-fitting custom Vera Wang strapless mermaid dress— hijacked the acceptance speech when her ABC show Modern Family won for best comedy series—and gave it in Spanish.

Modern Family Cast at the Golden Globes

Since the Golden Globes are put on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Vergara told the audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel that the Modern Family team would accept the award in two languages, Spanish and English. Vergara would speak in her native tongue… And, the show’s co-creator and executive producer Steven Levitan would translate.

Levitan started interpreting Vergara’s words accurately, but then quickly just started making things up with his own random statements…to chuckles from the audience. Talk about great comedic timing!

But Vergara wasn’t the only Spanish-speaking celebrity at the Globes…

Antonio Banderas & Salma Hayek at the Golden Globes

Just moments earlier, the show’s host Ricky Gervais poked fun at Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas‘ accents when he introduced them as presenters, prompting a long, non-English response from Banderas. After the Spanish actor’s hilarious rant, Hayek teased: “Ricky, I don’t understand [Banderas] either.”

Bejo: The Best Dressed Latina at This Year’s Golden Globes

Much like the carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, the biggest starlets in television and film were awash in gorgeous jewel tones, from ruby to emerald and amethyst. But the night’s hautest hue appeared to be sapphire.

Even though a Latina didn’t take claim one of the coveted Golden Globes this year, several of them illuminated the red carpet with their oh-so-stylish sheaths.

Here’s a look at this year’s best-dressed Latinas at the Globes:

Bérénice Bejo

She may have lost the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture award to The Help’s Octavia Spencer, but Bérénice Bejo was the night’s brightest star on the red carpet. The 35-year-old Argentine star of The Artist arrived at the Golden Globes in an Emilio Pucci sapphire silk organza strapless gown. Bejo—who did pick up a Best actress statue at France’s version of the Golden Globes over the weekend—  accessorized her gorgeous gown with a vintage navy blue Daniel Swarovski clutch and Chopard jewelry.

Sofia Vergara

Golden Globe-nominee Sofia Vergara is no stranger to stealing the spotlight on the red carpet; she was one of the best dressed stars at last year’s Emmy Awards. The 39-year-old Colombian Modern Family star, who did two-a-days at the gym for the first time in her life to fit into her super-tight gown, flaunted her figure in a custom Vera Wang peacock strapless mermaid gown. Vergara paired the stunning sapphire gown, which mimicked ocean waves, with Harry Winston jewels.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba, who partnered with Channing Tatum to present an award at this year’s Globes, dazzled on the red carpet in a pale-lavender Gucci strapless gown with embroidered fish-like scales and a simple train. Alba’s daughter Honor likened it to a mermaid, “because it looks like a mermaid tail to her.” The 30-year-old half-Mexican American actress paired the eye-catching dress with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, Bulgari jewels, and a Roger Vivier bag.

Lea Michele

Lea Michele, who rocked the People’s Choice Awards just a few days ago, proved her mettle…or should we say metal…once again as a red carpet superstar. The 25-year-old part-Spanish Glee star donned an antique embroidered illusion dress from Marchesa. She capped off her sparkly dress with Jimmy Choo shoes and Lorraine Schwarz jewels.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek, who served as a presenter at this year’s awards show, isn’t afraid to take risks on the red carpet. The 45-year-old Mexican Puss in Boots actress proved that again in an architectural metallic gold and black Gucci dress with plenty of razzle-dazzle.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie, who has transformed herself into a true fashion icon, look glam and gorgeous in a stunning silver Julien Macdonald dress. The 30-year-old part-Mexican actress paired her exquisite dress with Jimmy Choo shoes. And, she finished her look with her very own House of Harlow bag.

Vergara’s Got the Moves Like a Latin Jagger…

There’s no denying she can act… But did you know Sofia Vergara can seriously bust a move too?

While wrapping up filming of a new Diet Pepsi commercial in Miami with noted director, McG—the man who helmed the Charlie’s Angels films—the 39-year-old Colombian bombshell brought the house down when she lead an impromptu salsa dance with the cast and crew.

Sofia Vergara Receives Second Straight SAG Award Nomination

The new clip will debut in mid-January and cements Vergara’s continued relationship with Pepsi, the company for whom the then-17-year-old student appeared in her first TV commercial.

Last year, Vergara and Diet Pepsi enjoyed the buzz that surrounded their widely popular commercial, which featured an appearance by soccer superstar David Beckham.

Vergara: Modern Hero

It’s safe to call Sofia Vergara a modern hero

The 39-year-old Colombian star of ABC’s Modern Family reportedly started the New Year by rushing to help a young woman who collapsed on the floor of a Las Vegas casino, according to TMZ.

Vergara was reportedly leaving Hyde nightclub at the Bellagio at around 3:00 am on New Year’s Day when she saw a woman fall to the ground.

Sources at the scene tell TMZ that Vergara and a girlfriend, who has medical training, rushed over to help the woman…even checking her pulse.

Vergara and her friend tried to keep the woman calm and waited by her side until security personnel and paramedics arrived.

The woman was eventually transported to a nearby hospital.

Bérénice Bejo: “Golden” Girl

It’s a “golden” day for Bérénice Bejo, if not a golden year…

The 35-year-old Argentine actress has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Berenice Bejo The Artist

It’s the latest in a string of award nominations, including a SAG Award nom from the Screen Actors Guild, for Bejo’s scene-stealing work in the critically acclaimed black-and-white, silent film The Artist.

Bejo portrays Peppy Miller, a young dancer on her way to stardom, in the film, which received six Golden Globe nominations—the most for any of this year’s nominated pictures.

Meanwhile, legendary Spanish director Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In, starring Antonio Banderas, received a nod for Best Foreign Language Film.

In the television category, Sofia Vergara received a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Supporting Actress in TV Series, Mini-Series, or Made-for-TV Movie
 category.

It’s the 39-year-old Colombian actress’ second straight Golden Globe nomination for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on ABC’s Modern Family. And her second nomination this week after receiving a SAG Award nomination on Wednesday.

The 69th Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday, January 15, 2012.
