Paramount/Skydance Moves Up Release Date for Monica Barbaro’s “Top Gun: Maverick”

Paramount/Skydance’s long-awaited sequel Top Gun: Maverick, starring the 29-year-old part-Mexican American actress, will fly into theaters on Wednesday, June 24 instead of Friday, June 26.

That’s standard for Paramount to take a big summer event tentpole out on a Wednesday, ala their Transformers movies and even Tom Cruise’s Steven Spielberg-directed 2005 hit War of the Worlds

The 29-year-old part-Mexican American actress has signed with United Talent Agency (UTA).

Barbaro will appear as ‘Phoenix,’ the sole female fighter pilot, in the upcoming Paramount/SkydanceTom Cruisesequel Top Gun: Maverick set for release on June 26.

Barbaro recently appeared in ABC’s Stumptownand reprised her recurring role in Splitting Up Together for the same network.

Additionally, Barbaro starred in the Netflix series The Good Cop opposite Josh Groban and Tony Danza. She’s best known for her role as Yael on the second season of Lifetime’s critically acclaimed series UnREAL

She continues to be represented by Main Title Entertainmentand Meyer & Downs.

Espinosa to Direct Skydance’s “Life”

Daniel Espinosa is ready for a new Life adventure…

The 38-year-old half-Chilean has come on-board to direct Life for Skydance.

The project, an original idea, has a script written by Deadpool duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

Plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being but the project is believed to be in the elevated studio space that Skydance has become known for.

Paramount are in pole position to distribute the film given their long-standing but no deal has been confirmed as of yet.

Espinosa most recently directed the Tom Hardy– and Noomi Rapace-starrer Child 44.

Garcia in Talks to Star in the Sci-Fi Adventure Film “Geostorm”

It may be the calm before the (geo)storm for Andy García.

The 58-year-old Cuban actor is in talks to join Gerard Butler in the sci-fi adventure feature Geostorm, which will be directed by Dean Devlin.

The film centers on a stubborn but charming satellite designer (portrayed by Butler) who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. As the designer heads into space, the brother discovers a plot to assassinate the president.

Garcia is in negotiations to take the Oval Office as the president in Geostorm.

Other actors in talks to join the film include Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish and Ed Harris.

Warner Bros. and Skydance are behind the film, which is eyeing an October shoot in New Orleans.

The script was originally written by Devlin and was also worked on by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.

Garcia is currently appearing in theaters in 20th Century Fox’s Let’s Be Cops.
