Hernandez to Star Opposite Emma Stone in Lionsgate’s Musical Film “La La Land”

Callie Hernandez

Damien Chazelle’s musical, set in contemporary Los Angeles, stars Ryan Gosling as a jazz pianist and Emma Stone as the aspiring actress he falls in love with. The catch: the city that brought them together may tear them apart, as they soon discover that balancing love and art in such a cutthroat climate isn’t easy.

Hernandez, who has appeared in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, has been cast as on of Stone’s three roommates. The other two roommates will be played by Sonoya Mizuno and Jessica Rothe.

La La Land has already secured a July 15, 2016 release date.

The film originally had Miles Teller and Emma Watson in the works to star. Teller and Chazelle had teamed on Whiplash, and the writer-director penned La La Land before that movie, which landed a Best Picture nomination last year and won him the Adapted Screenplay Oscar. But Teller moved on and Lionsgate scooped up Gosling and Stone in April.

Hernandez’s other credits include television appearances on From Dusk Till Dawn and Members Only. She’ll next star in the upcoming film Cover Girl.

The 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban American actress is reportedly among the actresses in the running to join HBO’s True Detective season 2.

Rosario Dawson

According to The Wrap Dawson is among the list of at least seven more actresses being considered for the role after Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams were previously eying the part.

In addition to Dawson, who appears in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the site says Jessica Biel (“Total Recall“), Malin Akerman (“Watchmen“), Jaimie Alexander (“Thor“), Kelly Reilly (“Eden Lake“), Brit Marling (“The Keeping Room“) and Oona Chaplin (“Game of Thrones“).

Insiders say Moss and McAdams should not be ruled out of contention yet. At some point, Jessica Chastain was linked to the part too, but reps for the Zero Dark Thirty (2012) actress quickly denied it.

In addition to a female lead, the upcoming new season of the Nic Pizzolatto-created anthology series will feature three male leads. Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn are said vying for the roles.

Alba Throws Out Impressive First Pitch at Dodgers Game

Even though she could have gotten closer to the home plate, Alba elected to take the mound when she threw out the first pitch at the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game.

In a vine captured by the Major League Baseball team, the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For actress shows some serious athletic skills as she plays catch with one of the Dodgers’ players moments before her big moment.

Alba’s experience at the stadium comes after Jeff Bridges and Chrissy Teigen delivered impressive first pitches earlier this summer. And, Alba’s was much better than 50 Cent‘s sad attempt.

Alba is reprising her role as exotic dancer and revenge seeker Nancy Callahan in the film.

“I just really connected with the dark side of Nancy,” says Alba of her return to the role. “It was hard to detach from that until the movie was over.”

The original Sin City hit theaters in 2005, and in the nine years since Rodriguez and Miller have added more crispness to the series’ black-and-white comic book aesthetic.

The hyper-stylized and ultra-violent footage for the second film, which opens in theaters on August 22, definitely caught the attention of Comic-Con attendees.

It’s been nearly 10 years since Jessica Alba first set tongues wagging in Sin City… And, apparently she has not lost her sexy moves.

Dimension Films has released a new trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, featuring the 33-year-old half-Mexican American actress reprising her head-turning role as exotic dancer Nancy Callahan, which earned her an MTV Movie Award for “Sexiest Performance.”

In the trailer, Alba appears back on the bar, shaking her groove thing the same way she did in 2005. But there are also snippets of her smashing her face against a back-stage mirror and more, leaving audiences intrigued.

The ultra-violent action crime thriller and sequel to the 2005 cult classic – adapted from Miller’s neo-noir graphic novels – weaves two Sin City stories together into one hard-boiled narrative pitting the city’s thugs, lowlifes and femme fatales against each other, with a cast that includes Alba, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Eva Green, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Juno Temple, Jaime King, Jamie Chung, Dennis Haysbert and more.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will hit theaters on August 22.
