Cameron Diaz to Star in DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek 5”

A fifth Shrek film is in the works, with the the 51-year-old Cuban American actress and fellow stars Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy set to return, per DreamWorks Animation.

Cameron Diaz“Not too Far, Far Away…” wrote a spokesperson for the studio on X. “@Shrek 5 is coming to theaters on July 1, 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.”

Walt Dohrn, who worked on the second and third films as a writer and artist and as Head of Story on the fourth film, will direct Shrek 5.

Gina Shay is returning to produce alongside Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, with Brad Ableson co-directing.

ShrekMurphy hinted that the project was in motion in a video interview with Collider just last month. “We started doing Shrek four or five months ago,” he said. “I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year. We’ll finish it up.” In that interview, Murphy let slip that his character Donkey, the trusty sidekick of Myers’ ogre Shrek, also will be getting his own spinoff movie.

One of DreamWorks’ most celebrated animated franchises, Shrek is based on the 1990 picture book from writer and cartoonist William Steig. The franchise kicked off with the 2001 film that introduced viewers to Shrek, an ogre embarking on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona (Diaz).

Winning the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature and grossing more than $488 million worldwide, the original film’s success paved the way to sequels Shrek 2 (2004), where Shrek meets Fiona’s parents, and Shrek the Third (2007), which follows Shrek’s journey to find the next heir to the throne.

The fourth installment, Shrek Forever After (2010), explores Shrek’s midlife crisis and his wish to erase his past.

The franchise also includes the spin-off Puss in Boots (2011), starring Antonio Banderas as the swashbuckling feline, and its sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which was Oscar-nominated and grossed $481M globally upon its December 2022 debut.

The first four Shrek films have earned more than $2.9 billion worldwide, spawning a global live-touring show, a Broadway musical that earned eight Tony nominations and 12 Drama Desk nominations, plus an immersive tourist destination in London and popular events and attractions across Universal Destinations & Experiences’ theme parks.

Stephanie Beatriz Joins Voice Cast of Warner Bros.’ “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”

The 37-year-oldArgentine actress and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star has joined the voice cast of Warner Bros.’ The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part alongside Broad City‘s Arturo Castro.

Beatriz will portray new character Sweet Mayhem; Castro will play new character Ice Cream Cone.

Also confirmed to return is Alison Brie as Unikitty and Nick Offerman as Metal Beard.

They join previously announced cast members from the first movie Chris Pratt (Emmet), Elizabeth Banks (Lucy), Will Arnett (Lego Batman) as well as Tiffany Haddish who plays a new character Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi.

Mike Mitchell, of Shrek Forever AfterTrolls, and Sky High directs.

Lego Movie 2 is being produced by the same team behind the Lego film franchise since the first feature title debuted in 2014. That film racked up $469M at the global box office.

The Lego Movie 2 reunites the heroes of Bricksburg and takes place five years after the first movie. They face a new threat: Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the Lego universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored and musical worlds.

Lego Movie 2 opens nationwide in 2D and 3D on February 8., 2019.

Diaz Attached to Star in “The Other Women”

Cameron Diaz has her sights set on revenge…

The half-Cuban American actress, Hollywood’s highest-paid Latina actress, is attached to star in Fox’s female revenge comedy The Other Woman, according to TheWrap

Written by Melissa Stack, the film tells the story of a woman who finds out she is the other woman in a love triangle. She meets up with the wife in order to conspire and get revenge against the husband.

Kristen Wiig is also under consideration for a role in the film, according to a Diaz representative.

The high-concept story is similar to The First Wives Club, but with a younger skew.

Diaz’s recent credits include What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Shrek Forever After and Bad Teacher. Her upcoming films include Agent Century 21 and Gambit.
