Desmin Borges Starring in Indie Drama “On the End”

Desmin Borges has reached the end

The 40-year-old half-Puerto Rican actor is starring in On the End, an indie drama for Moontown Productions and Wise Child Studios.

Desmin BorgesThe film, Ari Selinger’s feature debut as writer-director, has wrapped production in Montauk, NY.

The film’s leads include Tim Blake NelsonMireille EnosJames Badge DaleLois Smith and Anna Chlumsky.

In addition to Borges, who starred in Shotgun Wedding, the support cast includes Matthew Maher, Glenn Fleshler, Michelle Hurd and Sawyer Spielberg.

Inspired by a true story, On the End centers on Tom (Nelson), a down-on-his-luck Montauk mechanic who finds unexpected love with Freckles (Enos), a fellow outcast. Their budding romance faces a dire threat when local elites conspire to forcibly remove Tom from his beachfront home and auto repair shop. As Tom and Freckles fight back, their love story evolves into a David vs. Goliath battle against greed and power in the rapidly changing town known locally as “The End.”

In a statement on the origins of the project, Selinger told Deadline, “I met a mechanic named Tom Ferriera on Navy Beach back in 2011. Little did I know his life would become the blueprint for On the End, a real-life fable set in a hidden corner of the Hamptons. Although it begins in 2008, the film explores issues of class disparity and gentrification that resonate just as powerfully today. At its core, though, it’s a raw and poignant love story. For my first feature, having collaborators like Tim and Mireille was something out of a dream. I can only hope the audience feels the same magic that I felt filming on the beach in Montauk.”

Borges’ previous credits include You’re the Worst, Utopia, The Time Traveler’s Wife and Living with Yourself.

Jennifer Lopez Shares First Look at Posters for Upcoming Netflix Drama “The Mother”

Jennifer Lopez is preparing for the mother of all roles…

The 53-year-old Puerto Rican superstar has shared the new posters for her upcoming Netflix drama The Mother.

Jennifer LopezIn the two images for the film, which will premiere on May 12, Lopez stares into the distance with icy eyes while wearing a fur coat in a snowstorm, a cache of weapons slung over her left shoulder.

The intense images were shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz to promote the film, in which Lopez plays an assassin who comes out of retirement to protect the daughter she’s never met from murderous criminal bent on revenge.

The action adventure is the follow-up to last year’s Super Bowl halftime documentary Halftime, as well as the singer’s return to rom-coms, Shotgun Wedding.

The film’s trailer finds a jacked Lopez doing pull-ups in a frigid climate in a sports bra and beanie cap and toting a long gun around while hunting. “She needs protection right now,” a steely-eyed JLo says amid a montage in which she speaks to her teary daughter in a diner, rips through town in a high-speed chase and pulls off a variety of action sequences on motorcycles and snowmobiles.

“If there’s trouble… come find me,” she says ominously.

The rest of the cast for the film directed by Niki Caro includes Joseph Finnes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Not much else is known about the film.

Pioneering Comedians Cheech Marin & Tommy Chong Getting Their Own Biopic

Art will soon imitate Cheech Marin’s life…

The 76-year-old Chicano comedian, actor, musician and activist and his former comedy partner Tommy Chong, best known as Cheech & Chong, will be getting the big-screen treatment.

Cheech & Chong, Cheech Marin, Tommy ChongThe pioneering comedians, whose 1978 film Up in Smoke has transcended cult status, are partnering with Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures, Underground and Five All in the Fifth Entertainment on a feature biopic about the comedy duo.

Cheech and Chong came to prominence in the ’70s and ’80s, becoming synonymous with stoner culture by riffing on and lifting up the counterculture of the time, from hippies to (of course) cannabis. Their combined output included successful stand-up shows, comedy albums and low-budget feature films, including Up in Smoke, Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie (1980) and Nice Dreams (1981).

Kristian Mercado, who most recently made his feature debut with the 2023 South by Southwest entry If You Were Last, will direct from a screenplay by Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan.

Marin, who worked with Hidden Pictures for Shotgun Wedding, and Chong will executive produce along with David Glickman.

“We are excited to show the world how two dudes from completely different backgrounds got together, changed comedy and made cannabis mainstream!” said Marin and Chong.

Marin currently appears on the big screen in Champions. He also recently appeared on George Lopez’s new series Lopez vs Lopez.

Desmin Borges to Star in the Military Thriller “Valiant One”

Desmin Borges is a valiant one

The 38-year-old half-Puerto Rican actor will star opposite Lana Condor, Callan Mulvey and Chase Stokes in Monarch Media’s thriller Valiant One, which goes into production in Vancouver this month.

Desmin BorgesThe first feature directed by Monarch’s Steve Barnett watches as a U.S. helicopter crashes on the North Korean side of the DMZ. With tensions between the North and South already on the verge of war, the surviving U.S. Army non-combat tech soldiers must work together to protect a civilian tech specialist and find their way across the DMZ, without the possibility of U.S. military support.

Condor will play Selby, a hard-as-nails and highly capable but very inexperienced Medic Specialist who joined the U.S. military after becoming a citizen to give back to her new homeland.

Borges is set for the role of Josh Weaver, a civilian defense contractor who’s cocky, with enough smarts to back it up, and obnoxious until the weight of the danger settles in on him and he becomes part of the team.

Mulvey will portray Chris Lebold the square-jawed Delta Operative and poster child for American heroic iconography, who’s in a heap of trouble and pain when the team crashes but remains a leader throughout.

Eric Tipton wrote the script, which is based on an original idea by Barnett.

Borges is best known for turns on such series as The Time Traveler’s WifeWelcome to FlatchUtopia and You’re the Worst, having received an Imagen Award nomination for his work on the latter.

He’s also appeared in films including Private LifeNever HereCarrie Pilby, Gabriel, All Is Bright and Compliance.

Also coming up for the actor is Lionsgate’s action rom-com Shotgun Wedding, in which he stars alongside Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel, D’Arcy Carden, Jennifer Coolidge and others.

“I’m so honored to be working with Jennifer, Elaine and the rest of the team at Nuyorican Productions along with our partners Joby and Tory at Safehouse,” Peyton said. “Having the chance to direct Jennifer in the title role of this movie is a dream come true, as I know she’ll bring the incredible strength, depth and authenticity we’ve all come to admire from her work.
