Miguel Ángel Silvestre to Star in Spanish Miniseries “Lucio’s Treasure”

The 41-year-old Spanish actor will topline the miniseries Lucio’s Treasure, a real-life inspired project co-produced by Spain’s Vértice360 and Friki Films with Red Arrow International Studios.

Miguel Ángel Silvestreilvestre will play the leading role of Lucio Urtubia, considered a modern Robin Hood who nearly bankrupted Citibank of America in the 1980s. Whether he was caught is another matter.

Structured as a six-episode, one-hour drama, the series is scheduled to lens in English by 2025.

Created by brothers Hugo and Roger Menduiña, Lucio’s Treasure is produced by Friki’s CEO Ana Manresa and Alberto Rull, Vertice’s EVP production and content.

The U.K.’s Anthony Alleyne has joined the series as co-creator, writer and executive co-producer.

Defined by Rull as “an ambitious series, both creatively and in terms of budget,” Lucio’s Treasure is set in Paris and New York, “aimed at being a world-class co-production with large appeal to global audiences.”

Red Arrow International Studios is co-producing and also managing international sales on the project.

The miniseries has been selected for the upcoming edition of MIA’s drama co-production market and pitching forum, which takes place in Rome on October 9-13.

The story follows Lucio, an apparently modest Spanish bricklayer living in Paris, hiding the brains behind the largest network of traveller’s check counterfeiters that led Citibank down a path towards ruin.

Silvestre’s acting career lifted-off in 2008, playing the role of masculine drug dealer Rafael Duque in Telecinco’s popular Spanish TV primetime series Sin tetas no hay paraíso.

In 2013 he toplined the Atresmedia-Bambú hit melodrama Velvet and played in Pedro Almodóvar’s comedy I’m So Excited.

Silvestre broke out with international roles in 2014, first playing in Lana Wachowski’s Netflix series Sense8 and then joining the Narcos Season 3 cast in 2016.

In 2019, he played a far different role, the Death Row-sentenced Pablo Ibar in BambúMovistar Plus+ miniseries En el corredor de la muerte. He also worked in Álex de la Iglesia’s HBO series 30 monedas.

After starring in Álex Pina’s action thriller series Sky Rojo, he joined the fifth part of Netflix flagship drama Money Heist.

Silvestre’s most recent leading work role was in the Paramount+ original series Los enviados, the platform’s biggest Spanish-language hit to date, created by Argentine Oscar-winning writer-director Juan José Campanella.

HBO Max Orders Second Season of Miguel Ángel Silvestre’s Mystery Horror Series “30 Coins”

HBO Max has ordered a second season of Álex de Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría’s mystery horror series 30 Coins, starring the 39-year-old Spanish actor.

The series will pick up from the end of season one, which dropped on the platform in late 2020.

Most of the people of Pedraza have lost their minds, confined to a psychiatric hospital. Elena lies in a Madrid hospital bed in a coma; Paco, shattered by remorse, tries to take care of her. As horror grows around them, the group of heroes must face a new enemy.

“If the first season was the gathering of the storm clouds, the second will be the maelstrom preceding an epic storm,” said de la Iglesia.

In addition to Silvestre, 30 Coins also stars Eduard Fernández and Megan Montaner.

The show is one of many being produced outside of the U.S. by HBO Max, which is rolling out to more European territories throughout this year.

Silvestre’s previous credits include Netflix’s Sense8, Narcos, Velvet, Sky Rojo and Money Heist.

Netflix Renews Úrsula Corberó’s “La Casa del Papel,” aka “Money Heist” for Fifth & Final Season

Netflix has renewed the 30-year-old Spanish actress’ highly popular Spanish drama series La Casa de Papel, aka Money Heist, for a fifth and final season.

Season four, which consisted of eight episodes, launched in April.

Created by Alex Pina and produced by Vancouver Media, the fifth season will consist of 10 episodes and start production in Spain on August 3.

In addition to Úrsula Corberó (Tokyo), the series stars Álvaro Morte (The Professor), Itziar Ituño (Lisbon), Pedro Alonso (Berlin), Miguel Herrán (Rio), Jaime Lorente (Denver), Esther Acebo (Stockholm), Enrique Arce (Arturo), Darko Peric (Helsinki), Hovik Keuchkerian (Bogotá), Luka Peros (Marseille), Belén Cuesta (Manila), Fernando Cayo (Coronel Tamayo), Rodrigo de la Serna (Palermo), Najwa Nimri (Inspector Sierra), and José Manuel Poga (Gandía).

Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Sense 8) and Patrick Criado (La Gran Familia Española) are set to join the cast for this final installment.

Pina will act as executive producer and showrunner with Jesús Colmenar, Koldo Serra and Álex Rodrigo directing.

Pina said, “We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”

The 34-year-old Mexican actress will be reuniting with Sense8 co-creator Lana Wachowski in the Warner Bros./Village Roadshow sequel The Matrix 4, which is expected to begin filming this year.

Ibarra will be joining franchise returnees Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss(Trinity), and Jada Pinkett Smith(Niobe) as well as newcomers Jessica HenwickNeil Patrick HarrisToby Onwumere, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is rumored to be playing young Morpheus. Henwick is buzzed to play a female Neo-like character.

Wachowski will direct and co-write the screenplay with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski is producing with Grant Hill, who executive produced Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions. The Matrixtrilogy has grossed more than $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office.

Ibarra joined the first and second seasons of Netflix’s Sense8 in the role of Daniela Velázquez. 

She also starred in the Kate del Castillo Netflix series Ingobernable and the Amazon Prime series El CandidatoShe studied at the artistic studio in Casa Azul.

Raul Mendez to Star in Lifetime’s Original Movie “Cocaine Godmother”

The 42-year-old Mexican actor will star in Lifetime’s original movie Cocaine Godmother, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Directed by Guillermo Navarro, Cocaine Godmother is based on the life of Miami drug lord Griselda Blanco (Zeta-Jones), one the original “Cocaine Cowboys” who pioneered the drug trade between Colombia and the U.S. in the 70s and 80s.

Mendez will star as Dario, an associate of Pablo Escobar and Griselda’s third husband.

In addition to Mendez, the list of recent cast additions includes Jenny Pellicer (The Bridge) as Carolina, one of Griselda’s female lovers; Jose Julian (A Better Life)  as Uber, Griselda’s second-oldest son (she had 4 boys); Juan Pablo Espinosa (La Fan) as Alberto, one of Griselda’s criminal associates, and her second husband; and Warren Christie (The Catch) as Jimmy, the DEA agent who hunted her down.

Blanco was living in Queens, NY, when she became embroiled with local drug runners. After moving to Miami to expand her empire, the death of her second husband gave rise to her nickname The Black Widow. She later moved to California, was deported to Colombia and was gunned down in 2012. In her lifetime, Griselda’s drug distribution network spanned across the United States and she was suspected of ordering over 200 murders.

The film will go into production this year and premiere in 2018 on Lifetime.

Mendez’s credits include major recurring roles on Narcos and Sense8.

Cocaine Godmother is produced by Asylum Entertainment for Lifetime.

Netflix Releases Trailer for Season 2 of Silvestre’s Sci-Fi Drama “Sense8”

The official trailer has been released for for Season 2 of Sense8, Netflix’s sci-fi drama series starring the 35-year-old Spanish actor.

“Rembrandt. His name is synonymous with masterpiece, and this is arguably one of his greatest paintings. An iconic work of individuals setting aside their differences for a common good. But what we see is not what people saw hundreds of years ago. How we see changes, because our senses are evolving,” begins the trailer for the series from Lana Wachowski, Grant Hill and J. Michael Straczynski.

Sense8 revolves around eight characters from different parts of the world, who experience a violent vision and soon find themselves mentally connected by the experience. They become connected, able to see and talk to one another as though they were in the same place, with access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must the eight adapt to this new ability and to one another, they must figure out why their lives are now in jeopardy.

In Season 2, dark forces continue to track the cluster of eight connected characters. The sensates will learn more about BPO, the secret organization searching for their cluster and others like them, and will work to protect themselves from this group that is out to hunt and kill them.

The new key art for Season 2 with the tagline “Survive Together” reflects their connection and bond with one another.

In addition to Silvestre, the cast also includes Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, Terrence Mann, Naveen Andrews and Daryl Hannah.

Season 2 of Sense8 begins streaming on Netflix on May 5.

Herrera to Star in Fox’s Drama Pilot “The Exorcist”

The 32-year-old Mexican actor and former RBD member will star in The Exorcist, Fox’s drama pilot inspired by William Blatty’s 1971 book.

Penned by Jeremy Slater, the project is described as a modern reinvention of the book, previously adapted into William Friedkin’s classic horror film.

It’s a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men — Father Tomas Ortega (Herrera) and Father Marcus Lang (Ben Daniels) — tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.

Herrera’s Father Tomas is the warm, selfless and compassionate leader of a small but hearty little church. Daniels’ Father Marcus is the intense holy warrior carrying out an occupation that the church no longer acknowledges in public.

Herrera got the attention of Fox and 20th Century Television casting executives last year when he was cast as the male lead in their pilot Urban CowboyHe made his American acting debut with a recurring role on the Netflix drama series Sense8 

He’s well established in Latin America where he is a telenovela star and has done a slew of popular TV series in movies in his native Mexico, including hit telenovela Rebelde and high-grossing feature The Perfect Dictatorship.

 

Netflix Renews Silvestre’s “Sense8” for a Second Season

Netflix has renewed its popular sci-fi drama series Sense8, starring the 33-year-old Spanish actor.

From J. Michael Straczynski, Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, Sense8 revolves around eight strangers from different parts of the world who suddenly become mentally and emotionally linked. The show aims to explore subjects that its writers feel science fiction shows, at least ostensibly, tend to ignore or skim through like as politics, identity, sexuality, gender and religion.

The fate of the series had been uncertain. Last month at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour co-creator Straczynski told reporters, “We’re still waiting word for the final determination, but the talks have been optimistic. It’s Netflix’s call.”

The cast includes Silvestre, who portrays closeted Mexico City-based actor Lito Rodriguez, Freema Agyeman, Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Daryl Hannah, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt and Brian J. Smith.

The 30-year-old Mexican actor, a former member of Mexican music group RBD, has joined the international cast of Netflix’s sci-fi drama series Sense8.

There’s no word not on Herrera’s role in the 10-episode series from Lana and Andy Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski, which is described as “a grippingglobal tale of minds linked and souls hunted” that incorporates the Wachowskis’ storytelling style.

“The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally,” Straczynski tells Deadline.com. “They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do sowhile being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.”

In addition to Herrera, the series will starTuppence Middleton, Aml Ameen, Freema Agyeman, Tena Desae, Doona Bae, Max Riemelt,  Erendira Ibarra, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestre and Terrence Mann.

Sense8, which isexpected to debut next year, will be shot in nine locations on four continents: Chicago, San Francisco, London, Iceland, Seoul, Mumbai, Berlin, Mexico City and Nairobi.
