It looks like Selena fans will be seeing (shades of) red next month…

The new MAC make-up line named for the late singer, known as La Reina de la Musica Tejana, will have its premiere at the American Bank Center in the singer’s home town of Corpus Christi, TX on September 30.

Selena

The MAC Selena World premiere, presented in partnership with Dillard’s department store, will be a day-long “product experience” where fans can buy the cosmetics before they are available in stores in October, as well as see the Quintanilla family perform with an as yet-unrevealed guest performer. DJs will part of the day’s entertainment, as well as make-up demonstrations.

Anticipating the big multi-generational crowds that can be expected to flock to the arena for the event, the cosmetics company has posted detailed instructions for attending – and lining up outside for world premiere, cautioning that “once the arena reaches capacity, doors will be closed to entry” to the free-admission event. View screens will be set up outside the arena, which has a maximum capacity of 10,000.

Doors open at 10 am, and the Quintanilla Family is set to perform at 8 p.m. The Selena

make-up will be available for purchase at the event until stock sells out.

Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla unveiled the full make-up collection in May via Persicope. It features lipsticks named for the beloved singer’s hits like “Dreaming of You” and “Amor Prohibido.”

Selena, who was only 23 when she died, was known for her bright red lips and a personal style that has influenced thousands of female fans.

Selena to be Immortalized with Her Own Wax Figure at Madame Tussauds Hollywood

Selena Quintanilla fans, prepare to wax nostalgic…

After a formal online petition held by the La Reina de La Musica Tejana’s fans, representatives of Madame Tussauds announced that the late Tejano singer will be immortalized with her own wax figure.

Quintanilla’s wax-figure unveiling will be in commemoration of the 21st anniversary of her last studio album, Dreaming of You.

Madame Tussauds Hollywood’s sculptors and artists’ team of experts researched and captured Selena’s authentic likeness, iconic pose and expression, signature hairstyle, makeup and wardrobe, after traveling to the Selena Museum in Corpus Christi, Texas, for an initial meeting with the Quintanilla family.

“At Madame Tussauds, our figures represent icons who have made a significant impact on our culture,” Colin Thomas, general manager of Madame Tussauds Hollywood, said in a statement. “Her influence has transcended generations and her passionate fans continue to be inspired by her to this day. We recognize this, and in response, we are proud to join her fans in celebrating her legacy by immortalizing her,” he added.

Valued at approximately $350,000, the figure will be dressed in a re-created stage look from Selena’s concert held at the Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Feb 7, 1993. The performance was recorded for the album Selena Live!, which won the Grammy for best Mexican/American album in 1994.

Meanwhile, Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla expressed her gratitude on behalf of her family. “This is yet another step in making sure that her legacy lives on and that her fans new and old can appreciate her as a person, an artist and one whom we can all identify with,” she said.

The official unveiling will take place at Madame Tussauds Hollywood on August 30.

MAC Cosmetics to Launch Selena-Inspired Collection

The late Selena Quintanilla’s music and style legacy lives on…

The late Mexican-American music superstar, known as La Reina de la Musica Tejana, is getting her own makeup line, MAC Cosmetics has confirmed via Facebook.

Selena Quintanilla

“Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world that has continued to grow over the last two decades,” MAC senior vice president James Gager said in a statement. “We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies MAC’s philosophy. We are so excited to announce a Selena inspired MAC collection debuting in the latter part of 2016.”

Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla hinted that Selena’s estate and MAC were “working on something big” at the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards. At the time she didn’t offer many details, but on Thursday she said, in the same press release, “I am so excited that MAC Cosmetics will be releasing a collection in honor of my sister Selena. Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day. If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made.”

The company’s decision comes after a social media campaign by fans to bring the line to life, which included viral hashtags and a formal petition.

Earlier this year, a die-hard Selena fan named Patty Rodriguez started an online petition on change.org asking MAC for a line inspired by her idol, which drew thousands of supporters.

The line will debut in the second half of 2016.

Selena was shot to death in 1995 by the president of her fan club. This year, she would have been 44.

Selena to Get Her Own “Walking, Talking, Singing and Dancing” Hologram

Selena Quintanilla’s legacy may soon live on through a special hologram…

The late queen of Tejano music is getting her own hologram, as revealed on her official Facebook page.

Selena Quintanilla

Called “Selena The One,” the hologram is described as a “walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment” of the Grammy-winning singer.

The hologram “will release new songs and videos, will collaborate with current hit artists, and aims to go on tour in 2018,” according to the statement.

The company behind the project is Nevada-based Acrovirt LLC, an independent tech company in the business of “developing and commercializing the Digitized Human Essence with unparalleled interactivity.”

According to Acrovirt LLC co-CEO Terry Kennedy (via his LinkedIn page), “Acrovirt has entered into research and development partnerships with the best neuroscience universities, to leverage Acrovirt’s technologies that impose an individuals’ biological information into a digital environment. The site SelenaTheOne.com states that an IndieGoGo campaign aims to raise 500,000 in support of its creation. The project has already secured a media partnership from the San Diego Latino Film Festival.

Last year, Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla told the Associated Press that the creation of a hologram modeled after his daughter was more complicated than anticipated, citing costs and technical limitations. “The prices are ridiculous and it requires the transportation of tons of equipment,” he told AP after meeting with San Diego-based AV Concepts, which was involved in the projection of the Tupac hologram at Coachella in 2012.

Selena’s brother A.B. Quintanilla told AP that after their meeting with AV Concepts in 2013, “we all decided that it wasn’t enough for the fans…she looked like a ghost. The image was not well defined.”

Lopez Among the Actresses in the Running to Portray Jenni Rivera

It looks like it’s a three-way race to find the actress to portray the late Jenni Rivera in a film about her life, with Jennifer Lopez in the hunt.

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican actress is reportedly being considered to play la Diva de la Banda, as well as Angélica Vale and Alicia Machado.

Jennifer Lopez

Rosie Rivera, sister of the banda/ranchera singer who died in an plane crash in Mexico last December, told Univision that plans to shoot the film about the I Love Jenni star are going forward as part of the family’s wish to make all her dreams come true.

Even though Rivera’s family hasn’t confirmed who’ll play her on screen, the press these days has tossed around a number of names, including Vale. The 37-year-old Mexican actress is best known for her starring role in the telenovela La Fea Mas Bella.

Also mentioned repeatedly is Machado, the singer and actress who was the fourth Venezuelan woman in history to win Miss Universe.

Both she and Vale have publicly expressed their admiration for Rivera, but have also said that neither has been formally offered a role in the film.

It’s also been speculated that Lopez’s company, Nuyorican Productions, could produce the film, although no news has been forthcoming about whether J.Lo intends to portray Rivera.

Lopez previously starred in the 1997 biopic about another Latina legend, the late Selena Quintanilla, who was murdered by the former president of her fan club.

For his part, film director Francisco Joel Mendoza also told Univision that he already has the permits to begin production on the film, saying shooting could begin in April.

Lopez Reportedly Looking to Produce Jenni Rivera Biopic

“Jenny from the Block” could be bringing another Jenni’s story to the big screen…

Jennifer Lopez is reportedly looking to produce a biopic about the late Jenni Rivera through her production company Nuyorican Productions, according to TV y Novelas.

Jennifer Lopez

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress is looking to buy the rights to move forward to developing the biopic on la Diva de la Banda, who passed away in a plane crash in Northern Mexico last December.

Lopez has even taken the initiative and reached out to Rivera’s sister, Rosie, whom Rivera left in charge of her estate, finances and children, according to the publication.

“I didn’t know her personally but I knew of her,” said Lopez after news of Rivera’s death broke. “For me, just being on tour right now, you live the same type of life. You know what I mean? It’s traveling, it’s doing shows.”

Jenni Rivera

“…I’m sure she was rushing to get home to her kids at that time so she took the flight at 3 in the morning. So you go like, wow, it’s just like a wake-up call for everybody. It’s tragic. She was so young, so young, and she had five kids. It just wasn’t her time, it feels like.”

TV Y Novelas reported that Lopez admires that the Mexican-American banda and ranchera singer had thick skin and a never-give-up attitude toward the obstacles she faced in life.

“Jennifer (Lopez) knows that she (Rivera) was very strong, a warrior,” said the source. “Just like the movie of Selena Quintanilla was a success for her career, she feels that Jenni deserves a movie with all the Hollywood glitz and glam.”

In the meantime, Rivera’s fans will have the chance to see the last images of their idol on mun2. The cable network has announced that the third season of her hit series I Love Jenni, which includes footage shot a month before her passing, will premiere in April.
