McCreery Claims His First ACM Award…

He may have less than a year of professional experience under his belt (buckle), but Scotty McCreery continues to pick up some serious hardware.

The 18-year-old part-Puerto Rican country crooner, who catapulted to stardom after winning American Idol last season, claimed the New Artist of the Year prize at the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The fan-voted honor marks McCreery’s first ACM trophy.

Scotty McCreery at the ACM Awards
Asked backstage about his dedicated followers, McCreery replied, “They never cease to amaze me. They’re wild on Twitter, and they’re insane, man. They’ve been by my side since American Idol, and they keep on coming out. I appreciate them.”

McCreery—who won his first award last December at the American Country Awards—sang a portion of his new single, “Water Tower Town,” during the awards telecast.

He told reporters, “To me, that’s the most Scotty McCreery song on the album. That talks about where I came from. That talks about my values and my beliefs. So I’m proud to sing that onstage every night. It comes from the heart.”

Held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the ACM telecast was hosted by Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton and featured performances by Carrie Underwood, Chris Young and Sara Evans.

McCreery Returning to American Idol Stage

Call it “the return of the champion”… Scotty McCreery is heading back to the American Idol stage…

The 18-year-old part-Puerto Rican country singer—the winner of Idol season 10—will return to Fox’s hit singing competition next week to perform his latest single “Water Tower Town.”

Scotty McCreery

Since winning American Idol, McCreery has gone on to become one of country music’s rising stars. His debut album was certified platinum earlier this year, and he was named New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards last December.

In addition to McCreery, Nicki Minaj will appear on next week’s episode to perform her latest chart-busting single “Starships.”

Meanwhile, the nine remaining contestants, DeAndre Brackensick, Hollie Cavanagh, Colton Dixon, Heejun Han, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips, Elise Testone and the lone Hispanic singer left in the competition Jessica Sanchezwho had another “defining moment” during this week’s Billy Joel-themed performances—will be required to tackle songs by their own idols.

McCreery’s Post Tour Plans: High School Baseball

He may be the American Country Awards’ reigning New Artist of the Year, but Scotty McCreery is still a regular high school senior. And, he’s planning to play ball after his stint on Brad Paisley’s Virtual Reality tour.

The 18-year-old part-Puerto Rican country singer will be heading back to his native North Carolina to play baseball for his high school in Garner. And, even though he’s an American Idol champion and has sold more than a million copies of his debut album, McCreery isn’t getting any special treatment from his coach.

Scotty McCreery

“Singing don’t really mean you can really play ball well,” he recently admitted to ABC News Radio. “So, they had to see if I had a little something left in me.”

But McCreery doesn’t think that’s the only challenge he’ll face on the field.

“I have a feeling it’s gonna be rough,” he admits. “I’m a pitcher, so I have a feeling when I get on the mound, guys are gonna be taunting me. I’m just gonna blow it off and strike ’em out!”

Unfortunately, the rising country star has to miss the first games of the season as he concludes his touring commitment, but he’s happy that everyone is working with his schedule.

“I enjoy high school, I enjoy being there with my friends and getting to hang out,” he explains to BlogCritics.org. “But I also enjoy the music and getting out here with the fans and singing a lot. It’s really cool for me to be able to do both. It’s been a fairly nice balance with schoolwork and being on the road. We’ve made it work.”

It’s good that McCreery is learning how to find a balance between his singing career and his academics, since he plans to attend college in the fall.

“That’s going to be another monster,” he tells Nashville’s Tennessean newspaper. “But we’re going to figure out a way to do [it]. It might take me 50 years to get a degree, but I want to get there and go to college.”

The singer has already been accepted to East Carolina, with applications still out to North Carolina State, Belmont University and Middle Tennessee State University.

“In the music business today, you’ll be around and in a few months everybody forgets about you,” he continues. “I want an education to lean back on.”

Scotty’s run on the Virtual Reality tour comes to an end on March 3 in Lexington, Kentucky.

McCreery Headed to CW’s Hart of Dixie

Bless his hart! American Idol’s reigning champion Scotty McCreery will be whistlin’ Dixie for Rachel Bilson and her co-stars.

The 18-year-old part-Puerto Rican country crooner—whose debut album Clear As Day has been officially certified platinum—will return to the small screen with an appearance on the CW’s new series, Hart of Dixie.

McCreery will sing his hit single “The Trouble With Girls” in an episode set to air April 23rd, according to Huffington Post.

The performance will reportedly take place during a critical scene between Bilson’s character Zoe and George, played by Scott Porter.

McCreery’s Debut Album Certified Platinum

Scotty McCreery is starting the New Year on a high note…

The 18-year-old part-Puerto Rican country singer’s debut album Clear As Day has been officially certified platinum, with sales of more than one million copies just three months after its release. McCreery’s CD now ranks as one of the highest selling debuts from an American Idol contestant.

In addition, Billboard magazine named the American Idol champion the Top New Country Artist for 2011, in addition to winning New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards in December.

“It means the world to me,” said McCreery, who was recently named New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards, in a press release. “It’s one of the highest honors you can get with your album and it’s a huge testament to the loyalty of country music fans and how great they have been to me this year. 2011 was absolutely an incredible, life-changing year for me. I want to say a huge thanks to the fans for this.”

Grabbing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts makes McCreery the youngest male in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. Clear As Day also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year and held steady in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks.

“Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum,” the singer added. “It’s wild! It’s going to take me a few months or years to really wrap my head around it.”

Meanwhile, McCreery is preparing for his first country music tour, “Virtual Reality Tour 2012,” in Grand Rapids, Mich. The newcomer will serve as one of the opening acts for superstar Brad Paisley, along with The Band Perry.

“I’m looking forward to having a great time,” said McCreery of the tour. “It’s going to be a fun, jam-packed set.”

A Very Aguilera Christmas?

Here’s your chance to have yourself a very Aguilera Christmas with plenty of Bieber fever…

This past weekend, Christina Aguilera joined Justin Bieber and Scotty McCreery to tape performances for ABC’s Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade.

Christina Aguilera Disney Christmas Special

Filmed at California’s Disneyland Resort and Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort, the star-studded television special—hosted by Mario Lopez, Nick Cannon and Maria Menounos—will feature the 30-year-old half-Ecuadorian singer performing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at Disneyland Resort.

Justin Bieber Disney Christmas Special

For his part, Bieber taped a medley of songs on the Cinderella Castle stage at Magic Kingdom from his new Christmas album, including “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and the album’s title-track, “Mistletoe.”

Meanwhile, McCreery—the part-Puerto Rican American Idol winner who just won the New Artist of the Year award at the American Country Awards—will bring a little country flavor to the show with his rendition of the classic carol, “A Holly Jolly Christmas.”

Other performers include Jennifer Hudson, Cee Lo Green and OneRepublic.

Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade will air on ABS on Sunday, December 25.

McCreery Receives His First Industry Award at the American Country Awards…

There’s no denying that American Idol winner Scotty McCreery is a rising star in country music…

The 18-year-old part-Puerto Rican country singer was named Artist of the Year: New Artist at the second annual American Country Awards, held Monday night at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand.

“This is my first award. It’s a daggone Telecaster,” he said before thanking Jesus and American Idol. Before delivering his acceptance speech, he performed his latest single “The Trouble With Girls“.

McCreery beat out The Band Perry, Jerrod Niemann, The Pistol Annies and Thompson Square to win the coveted award.

Country superstar Jason Aldean dominated the night with six awards, including Artist of the Year. Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood was the most recognized female artists with three awards, including Artist of the Year: Female.

Scotty-McCreery-Gold Record

Meanwhile, McCreery’s debut album, Clear As Day, has been certified gold for racking up sales in excess of 500,000. And it only took the North Carolina-native two months to accomplish the feat.

Clear As Day currently tops the Billboard Country Albums chart, a spot it has held for five weeks.

“It’s huge! Every artist dreams of a gold album and works hard for it,” said McCreery, who . “So it’s a major accomplishment to have your debut album go gold. This is just incredible.”
