Camila Mendes to Star in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” Reboot

Camila Mendes’ has added to her summer plans.

The 30-year-old Brazilian American actress and Riverdale star has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot as a new lead.

Camila MendesMendes will star alongside Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King as the leads in the film.

Sony Pictures, who will distribute film, is in talks with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to their reprise roles from the original films.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing the film from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky after an initial script from Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz, one of the producers of the original, is producing the reboot.

The film will bow on July 18, 2025.

The original hit theaters on October 17, 1997, grossing $72 million at the box-office. The cast included Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe in the story about four young friends who are stalked by a villain with a hook after they tried to cover up hitting him with their car.

The film overperformed so well it received a sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

Mendes’ previous credits include The New Romantic, Palm Springs and Upgraded.

The 48-year-old part Puerto Rican actor is expected to return alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt in Sony’s new I Know What You Did Last Summer film.

Written by Kaytin Robinson and Sam Lansky, off a script by Leah McKendrick, the film’s plot is under wraps for now. Neal Moritz is producing.

Launching the careers of Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, the franchise kicked off with 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, which introduced viewers to four friends who’ve accidentally run over a pedestrian while driving on a coastal road one night. In their panic, they decide to dispose of the body in the ocean and vow never to speak of the incident again. However, a year later, they start receiving cryptic messages from someone who seems to know about their dark secret. The situation escalates as they are stalked and attacked by a mysterious figure wielding a hook.

The success of the original film led to a number of sequels, including 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and 2006’s I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

In 2021, the franchise was reimagined as a television series that debuted on Prime Video.

Prinze Jr.’s most recent credits include Christmas with You, Clerks III and the Punky Brewster television series reboot.
