Reineris Salas Claims Bronze in Men’s Freestyle 97kg Wrestling at Tokyo Games

Reineris Salas is officially an Olympic medalist.

The 34-year-old Cuban freestyle wrestler claimed the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 97kg wrestling competition at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Salas defeated Azerbaijan’s Sharif Sharifov in the bronze medal match.

It was a positive end to Salas’ Olympic run after his loss to Russian Olympic Committee’s Abdulrashid Sadulaev, who would go on to win the gold.

Sadulaev defeated Team USA’s Kyle Snyder, who had to settle for the silver.

Make that three in a row for Lázaro Álvarez

The 30-year-old Cuban amateur boxer lost his semifinal men’s featherweight boxing match to the Russian Olympic Committee’s Albert Batyrgaziev by a score of 3-2, leaving him settling for a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

It’s Alvarez’s third consecutive Olympic bronze.

The southpaw previously won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Games and 2016 Rio Games.

The 26-year-old Brazilian tennis player and the Brazilian tennis player defeated the Russian Olympic Committee‘s Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina for the bronze medal in women’s doubles at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

With their victory, the pair has given Brazil its first ever medal in Olympic tennis.

Pigossi and Stefani won 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 in two hours and 11 minutes at Ariake Tennis Park on Saturday, saving four straight match points and winning six straight points to close out the match.

The pair upset two seeded teams in the first rounds of the tournament before losing to Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic, who’ll play for the gold, in the semifinals.
