HBO Max Renews Rosie Perez’s “The Flight Attendant” for Second Season

HBO Max has renewed The Flight Attendant, starring the 56-year-old actress, choreographer and community activist and Kaley Cuoco, for a second season.

The series, based on the book of the same name by bestselling author Chris Bohjalian, centers on alcoholic, globe-trotting flight attendant Cassie Bowen (Cuoco) who becomes embroiled in an espionage plot following her affair with a first class passenger, who winds up murdered after their night together.

Flight Attendant was originally intended to be a limited series, but series creator and EP Steve Yockey knew there was more string he could pull upon.

The series finale leaves Cassie in a position to encounter more global intrigue.

HBO Max reports that the first season of Flight Attendant saw week-over-week growth and ranked as the streamer’s No. 1 series overall during its run. The eight-episode first season debuted November 6.

Flight Attendant has a 98% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and Cuoco has received high praise for her comedic-dramatic turn as a woman continually coming to terms with her torturous past.

The series also stars Perez, Michiel Huisman, Zosia Mamet, Michelle Gomez, T.R. Knight, Colin Woodell, Merle Dandridge, Griffin Matthews and Nolan Gerard Funk.

The Flight Attendant is produced by Warner Bros Television, Berlanti Productions & Yes, Norman Productions.

HBO Max has made the series premiere episode of The Flight Attendant, starring the 56-year-old Puerto Rican actress and community activist, available to stream now for free ahead of its Thursday, November 26 premiere.

The comedic dark thriller starring and executive produced by Kaley Cuoco will debut with three episodes on Thanksgiving Day.

Following its debut on HBO Max, the series’ premiere episode will also air on HBO linear channel, On Demand, and on select partners’ streaming platforms starting on Friday, November 27 at 10:00 pm ET/PT during a Free Preview Weekend offered by participating partners, as well as on TBS at 10:30 pm ET/PT on Sunday, November 29 as part of an HBO Max-themed marathon over Thanksgiving weekend.

The limited series continues with two new episodes on December 3, followed by two new episodes on December 10, leading up to the finale episode on December 17.

Based on the novel by Chris Bohjalian, the series is a story of how an entire life can change in one night. A flight attendant (Cuoco) wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man – and no idea what happened.

In addition to Cuoco and Perez, the series also stars Michiel Huisman, Zosia Mamet, Michelle Gomez, T.R. Knight, Colin Woodell, Merle Dandridge, Griffin Matthews and Nolan Gerard Funk.

HBO Max has set Thursday, November 26 for the premiere of The Flight Attendant, featuring the 56-year-old Puerto Rican actress and activist.

The series stars Kaley Cuoco, who also produced the project.

The streaming service also unveiled the key art, featuring Cuoco, with the tagline “A Deadly Mystery With A Turbulent Descent.”

The Flight Attendant is among shows whose production was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed production in New York this fall after shutting down in March.

“My Name Is Pedro” Documentary About Latino Maverick Educator Pedro Santana to Open in New York Next Month

The story of Pedro Santana’s life in education will be getting a wider audience.

The Latino maverick educator is the focus of Lillian LaSalle’s award-winning documentary My Name Is Pedro, which shines a timely spotlight on public education.

My Name Is Pedro is set to open virtually in New York at The Maysles Cinema on September 17 and in Los Angeles at the Laemmle on October 2. Other cities will follow.

The film can be summed up in one quote said by Santana in the trailer: “I want to have an impact on people’s lives.”

Santana, from the South Bronx, is considered a maverick when it comes to education as he actualizes learning and positive change in children, adults, environments and communities through an “impact” ripple effect strategy that he has effortlessly perfected.

My Name Is Pedro stresses the importance of great educators that exist within the infrastructure of our country’s public education system.

The film features appearances from Rosie Perez, Aasif Mandvi, as well as Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter.

Amazon Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society are hosting a nationwide summer screening series “A Night at the Drive-In” with a line-up of features celebrating diverse voices in cinemas, including the 55-year-old Puerto Rican actress and activist’s Do The Right Thing.

The series kicks off on July 1 and runs through August 26. Attendance will be at no cost to local communities for the double feature-program. As part of the concessions for the screenings, all attendees will receive refreshments provided by Black and Brown owned businesses, which are Path WaterPipcorn Popcorn and Partake Cookies

The line-up was curated by Jordan’s newly formed marketing arm 8788 and Outlier Society, every other week through the end of August.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Birds of Prey starring the 55-year-old Puerto Rican actress.

Director Cathy Yan’s feature film debut is actually called Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and, as the title suggests, the superhero action is geared more toward Deadpool’s deadpan humor than The Dark Knightbleakness.

The spotlight is on Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), the fan-favorite Suicide Squad wild-child who teams with Renee Montoya (Perez), the Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Black Canary (Jurnee Smollet-Bell). The cast also includes Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain.

The gang will clash with Ewan McGregor as the ruthless crime boss called the Black Mask. 

Birds of Prey will open in theaters on February 7.

Play for Puerto Rico,” which Beat Fever launched in conjunction with non-profit organization Today I’m Brave, seeks to raise $500,000 to rebuild at least 100 roofs in Puerto Rico by driving awareness and donations to 100Roofs.org, which is spearheaded by actress Rosie Perez and Ramon Rodriguez in partnership with disaster relief organization Heart 9/11.

An interactive album featuring music from Daddy YankeeLuis Fonsi, Nicky Jam and more allows fans tap to the beat of the songs, and learn about the project via pop-up videos between songs. They can then donate directly to 100Roofs.org with the click of a button. Puerto Rican-themed virtual clothing will allow fans to personalize their avatar.

Carlos Leal to Star in Netflix’s Film “The Last Thing He Wanted”

The Spanish actor will appear in Dee Rees and Netflix’s The Last Thing He Wanted.

Leal joins a cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Willem DafoeBen Affleck, Toby Jones, Rosie PerezEdi Gathegi, and Mel Rodriguez.

Based on Joan Didion’s 1996 novel, the film follows journalist Elena McMahon (Hathaway) who finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran Contra Affair’s arms for drugs plot reaches its tipping point.

Rees and Marco Villalobos adapted the screenplay.

Leal’s credits include the James Bond film, Casino Royale.

Production is currently underway in Puerto Rico.
