Anitta Reportedly Taps Rebeca León to Serve as Her New Manager

Anitta has a new manager…

Rebeca León has been tapped as the 30-year-old Brazilian singer, songwriter, acress and television host’s new manager, according to Variety.

AnittaLeón is the CEO and founder of Lionfish Entertainment, an artist management and production company operating in the music, film, TV, and digital businesses.

Representatives for Republic Records, Anitta’s new label, and León did not respond to requests for comment from Variety.

Anitta was formerly managed by Brandon Silverstein, the founder/CEO of S10 Entertainment, who helped build the multi-lingual singer’s career in the United States.

Just a few months ago, Léon amicably parted ways with her longtime client Rosalía, with whom she started a partnership in 2018. As a manager, she’s worked with numerous renowned Latin acts, including overseeing the fruitful career of Colombian superstar Juanes, and the emergence of J Balvin (they amicably split in 2019).

Before Lionfish, León led Latin operations as senior VP for AEG/Goldenvoice.

This shift in Anitta’s team comes as she’s also switched labels: Anitta had signed a new deal with Universal’s Republic Records in late April, just weeks after her highly-publicized split from Warner Music.

She cut ties with Warner after 11 years at the company and a big effort by the company’s Warner Records label to launch the singer’s career in the U.S. with her multi-genre latest album “Versions of Me,” released just over a year ago.

“After eleven years of successful partnership, we’ve agreed to go our separate ways,” read a statement from the label and artist. “Anitta would like to thank the Warner Music team for all their support. And the Warner team wishes Anitta all the best in future.”

Anitta recently announced the incoming release of her first Republic Records single titled “Funk Rave.” She’s also said to be releasing a new project, a “Brazilian album of English and Spanish,” that pays homage to the early beginnings of Brazilian music.

“I think Brazilian funk is opening its room right now and I want to show more about where this was born and it’s my culture, my community, my place so I feel happy to have this in hands with Republic,” Anitta told Variety.

Manuel Turizo’s “El Merengue” Collaboration with Marshmello Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart

The 23-year-old Colombian singer’s Marshmello collaboration “El Merengue” has risen to No.1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart dated June 10.

Manuel Turizo“El Merengue” jumps from No. 2 despite a 5% dip in audience impressions, to 10.4 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 1, according to Luminate.

It ousts Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s “Un x100to” after its three-week command, sending it to No. 2, likewise with a decline on weekly impressions (falls 11% to 10.36 million).

“El Merengue” is just the second tropical tune to lead the overall tally this year, after Romeo Santos and Rosalia’s “El Pañuelo” headed the February 25-dated ranking.

Turizo, meanwhile, cements his airplay No. 1 growth with six champs spanning almost six years. Previously, he topped Latin Airplay with another tropical track: “La Bachata” (one week in October 2022).

As “El Merengue” tops Latin Airplay, Marshmello becomes the first artist unfamiliar to the Latin genre to occupy the top slot in 2023. Congolese French singer and rapper Gims (born Gandhi Alimasi Djuna) last completed the deed as “Arhbo (Music From The FIFA World Cup Quatar 2022),” with Ozuna, took over Latin Airplay for three weeks last December.

Beyond its Latin Airplay coronation, “El Merengue” wins a second term at its No. 5 high on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in its 13th week in the top 10, encompassing its entire run in the chart so far.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs’ Free Mexico City Concert Breaks Zócalo Attendance Record

The legendary Argentine rockers drew a crowd of 300,000 to their free concert at Mexico City’s Zócalo, on Saturday, June 3, breaking the attendance record set by Grupo Firme last year, according to data supplied by the local government.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, ZócaloUp until last night, Grupo Firme, the boisterous Regional Mexican group, had drawn the biggest crowd ever (280,000) to the historic Mexican site.

But last night Los Cadillacs bested Grupo Firme and other seminal acts, including Rosalía, Sir Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Shakira, the late ranchera icon Vicente Fernández, and even pop star Justin Bieber.

“¡Winds of liberty, blood of a fighter!” tweeted Mexico City mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, quoting the lyrics of Los Fabulosos Cadillac’s famous song “Matador.” “We’ve made history again, breaking attendance records with 300,000 people in the Zócalo of Mexico City, enjoying an epic concert from Los Fabulosos Cadillacs,” she added.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Zócalo The band — headed by singer Gabriel Fernández Capello, better known as Vicentico, bassist Flavio Cianciarulo and saxophonist Sergio Rotman — took over the second largest public square in the world (behind Tiananmen Square in Peking) with their blend of rock, ska, reggae and punk.

From early in the morning on Saturday, people from different parts of the city, and the country, lined up at el Zócalo in an effort to get access to the front rows of the stage. By the time the show started in the evening, the crowd was so large and tight, that some opted to move to the back to breath better.

The now-historic performance, which lasted around 90 minutes, is part of the group’s El León del Ritmo tour, which celebrates 30 years of one of its most celebrated albums, 1992’s El León, and three decades since the release of their fabled single “Matador.”

The fact that Cadillacs have been around for so long, and that they perform rock en español – a genre many say is fading — makes their accomplishment even more impressive. “They called them old, they made fun of them, and they answered with 300,000 people,” tweeted one fan.

“What happiness! How enormous and indescribable to be playing for all you! Thank you, eternal thanks. We receive this with our hearts,” said a visibly moved Vicentico to an adoring audience that sang to every song in their repertoire.

Following their performance at Coachella in April, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs will take their El León del Ritmo Tour to different countries, including Mexico, the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile, Spain and the U.S.

Cardi B to Appear on Remix of Latto’s Viral Hit “Put It on Da Floor”

Latto’s “Put It on Da Floor” has been taking social media by storm, and this Friday, she’ll treat fans to a new version of her latest viral hit with an assist from the 30-year-old half-Dominican American Grammy-winning rap superstar.

Cardi BLatto took to Twitter to reveal that Cardi B will appear on the official “Put It on Da Floor” remix.

First previewed during Latto’s performance at Coachella last month, “Put It on Da Floor” has since grown into a social media phenomenon, with fans literally ripping themselves out of plastic bags to emulate the track’s fiery opening lines.

“I put it on the floor, and, now, I’m ’bout to put it on the floor again. Remix this Friday!” Latto said in a video posted to Twitter. The “Muwop” rapper then goes on to recite the song’s opening lines before ripping a black plastic bag to reveal none other than Cardi B.

The new version of “Put It on Da Floor” is the first official collaboration between Latto and Cardi B, and the song also serves as Cardi’s first musical release of 2023.

Last year, the Bronx rapper appeared on a slew of singles, including “Hot Shit” (with Kanye West & Lil Durk), a remix of Rosalía’s “Despechá,” and the Billboard Hot 100 No. 9-peaking “Tomorrow 2” (with GloRilla).

Karol G Collects Eight Latin American Music Awards Trophies, Including Artist of the Year

The 32-year-old Colombian superstar was the big winner at the 2023 Latin AMAs, taking home eight awards, including artist of the year.

Karol GIn addition to the night’s top prize, Karol G took home Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year for her Becky G-collaboration “MAMIII.”

Becky G collected four awards, including Best Collaboration – Pop/Urban for the

Karol G-assisted girl anthem “MAMIII.”

The Mexican-American singer took the stage to say that women are stronger united.

“This is bigger than us. This is girl power. Thank you to the fans for supporting us.”

Overall, it was a big night for Música Mexicana with artists such as Grupo Frontera and Carin Leon also taking the stage for performances. Leon took the stage three times to perform solo, alongside Frontera and then again for a special medley to honor Legacy Award recipient Pepe Aguilar.

Other special honorees were Carlos Vives — who also received the Legacy Award — and David Bisbal and Prince Royce both took the Pioneer Award.

Additional winners include Bad Bunny, who took home three trophies, and Junior H, Rosalía, Shakira, Romeo Santos and The Weeknd each with two.

Julien’s Auctions, known as the “auction house to the stars,” partnered with Coca-Cola for a virtual auction called “Rosalía’s Exclusive Personal Items.”

RosaliaThe catalog includes a collection of wardrobe, memorabilia, and ephemera from the 30-year-old Spanish artist, including some of the outfits she wore during her MOTOMAMI tour—some items are estimated up to $3,000.

Wisin & Yandel Scores 16th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with Rosalia-Collab “Besos Moja2”

It’s a Sweet Sixteen for Wisin & Yandel.

The Puerto Rican Grammy– and Latin Grammy-winning reggaeton duo have taken over Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart as the Rosalia-collaboration “Besos Moja2” rises 2-1 to lead the April 1-dated ranking.

Wisin & YandelThe new champ hits the top after the song’s domination on Latin Rhythm Airplay, where it holds strong at No. 1 for a fourth week.

“Besos Moja2” is a contemporary reggaetón version of Wisin & Yandel’s “Besos Mojados” produced by Luny Tunes and originally released as part of the duo’s sixth studio album, La Revolución (No. 1 on Top Latin Albums, May 2009).

The new Rosalía-assisted version stems from the Puerto Rican’s 10th and farewell full-length set as a duo, La Última Misión, which debuted and peaked at No. 14 on Top Latin Albums and reached top 10 on Latin Rhythm Albums last October.

“Besos Moja2,” produced by the same team plus Los Legendarios and Noah Goldstein, stretches to No. 1 on Latin Airplay, after two weeks in the runner-up slot, with a 3% increase in audience impressions, to 12 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 23, according to Luminate.

The collaboration gives Wisin & Yandel their 16th No. 1. The duo extends its record for the most champs among groups, ahead of Maná’s 11 leaders, and Zion & Lennox’s eight No. 1s. Among all acts, J Balvin continues to lead with 35 No. 1s. “Besos Moja2” arrives atop of the chart following Wisin & Yandel’s one week command through “Mayor Que Usted,” with Natti Natasha and Daddy Yankee, in September 2022.

Rosalía, meanwhile, secures her seventh No. 1, and sixth consecutive, after conquering Latin Airplay also for one week with the bachataEl Pañuelo,” with Romeo Santos on the survey dated February 25.

Natti Natasha to Co-Host This Year’s Latin American Music Awards

Natti Natasha is ready to run the show…

The 36-year-old Dominican singer will make her hosting debut at the 2023 Latin American Music Awards.

Natti NatashaThe “Sin Pijama” singer will co-host the awards ceremony — which will be broadcast live on April 20 — alongside Julian Gil and Galilea Montijo. 

“I’ve never shied away from living new experiences, and tackling new challenges,” Natasha tells Billboard. “Hosting an award show is something new and exciting for me. It gives me a way to connect with a live audience and those watching at home, and celebrate with them our culture and passion through what we love … música!”

Natasha adds that she’s already preparing for the big day.

“The work begins now! In the next weeks, I look forward to working with producers, creatives, wardrobe and production as a whole to ensure we give audiences an evening to remember.”

Natti Natasha is also up for three awards this year. She’s nominated in the categories best artist – urban, best collaboration – pop/urban and collaboration of the year for “Mayor Que Usted,” with Daddy Yankee and Wisin & Yandel.

This year, Bad Bunny leads the list of nominations with 11 nods, including artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year. The Puerto Rican star is followed by Becky G and Daddy Yankee, each with nine nominations; and with eight nods each are Grupo FronteraKarol G, Rauw Alejandro, Romeo Santos and RosalíaCarlos Vives and Pepe Aguilar will be recognized as 2023 Latin AMAs Legacy honorees.

This year’s nominations are based on streaming, sales, radio airplay, tours and even social media interactions data provided by Billboard and Luminate during the eligibility period (Feb. 12, 2022, through Feb. 4, 2023).

The eighth edition of the Latin AMAs is set to broadcast live on Univision, UniMás, and Galavisión from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 pm ET.

Rosalia & Rauw Alejandro Release Their Highly-Anticipated Joint Project “RR”

The 30-year-old Spanish Grammy-winning singer and the 30-year-old Puerto Rican singer have released their highly-anticipated joint project RR, featuring three songs to celebrate their three years as a couple.

The EP — which marks the first that the couple recorded songs together — arrives after both artists had hinted at a potential collaboration.

In November, the Spanish superstar teased that they had been in the studio together without revealing much. “We’ll see, we’ll see,” she added.

Meanwhile, Alejandro also talked about collaborating with Rosalía during his panel at Billboard’s MusicCon back in May. “For sure we have a few stuff in the studio already,” he confirmed. “It’s a surprise. Those songs are [under] extra security. We’re planning to do the release, I’m not going to say when, but soon. We’re doing it for the love of the fans and she’s my girl and I did those songs with more love. No. 1 for sure.”

Previously, the couple had subtly collaborated on each other’s previous projects; Rosalía sang backing vocals on “Dile a Él” from the Puerto Rican artist’s first album, Afrodisiaco (2020) as well as “Corazón Despeinado” from Saturno (2022). He also co-wrote some lyrics in Rosalía’s “Chicken Teriyaki” from her Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning 2022 album, Motomami. She also lent her pen on “Caprichoso” from Alejandro’s EP Trap Cake, Vol. 2 (2022).

Alejandro kicked off his Saturno World Tour last month in the Dominican Republic, and will continue his trek in cities such as New York and Chicago. Most recently, Rosalía was recognized as Producer of the Year at the Billboard Women In Music awards. The Spanish idol, who had one of the most successful tours of 2022 with Motomami, will be performing at Coachella in April.

Rosalia to Become First Artist Featured on FC Barcelona’s Men’s & Women’s Team Home Kits

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of the 30-year-old Spanish singer and songwriter’s Motomami, the Grammy-winning album’s logo will be emblazoned on FC Barcelona’s jerseys for their El Clásico match against Real Madrid.

The limited-edition shirt with the Motomami logo will also be available for fans to purchase.

Rosalía’s Motomami peaked at No. 3 on Billboard‘s Top Latin Albums chart. It won the Latin Grammy for album of the year. Most recently, Rosalía confirmed a joint three-song project with boyfriend and fellow artist Rauw Alejandro titled RR, set for release on March 24.
