Cuarón’s “Gravity” Set for Release in October

Alfonso Cuarón’s latest film will be blasting into theaters in October…

The 51-year-old Mexican director’s Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as surviving astronauts in a damaged space station, will be released on October 4, 2013 in 3D and IMAX.

Gravity, which Cuarón wrote with his son Jonás Cuarón and Rodrigo Garcia, had been scheduled for released in November 2012, but Warner Bros. pushed it forward last spring to give it more room amid a crowded fourth-quarter slate of films, including The Hobbit.

The October 4 release puts Gravity up against Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City sequel, Paranoia and Vince Vaughn’s The Delivery Man.

Cuarón’s directing credits include A Little Princess, Y tu mamá también, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men.

Venegas to Perform at United Nations Concert in Cuba

Julieta Venegas is set to take the stage on Cuban soil for the first time ever…

The 41-year-old Mexican singer-songwriter will perform in Cuba next month at a concert aimed at helping the United Nations’ worldwide campaign to end violence against women, according to Cuban officials.

Venegas will join Cuban musicians like Santiago Feliu, Rodrigo Garcia and Rochy Ameneiro at the special concert at Havana’s National Theater.

The Tijuana-raised Grammy-winning singer, known for songs like “Andar conmigo,” “Lento” and “Me voy” will also take part in a panel discussion the day after the concert alongside U.S. documentary filmmaker Catherine Murphy the next day in the Cuban capital to discuss the same subject.

Venegas has been a cultural goodwill ambassador for the Council of Ministers for Women of Central America since 2011. In 2009, she was appointed a UNICEF ambassador in her country.

Venegas, who has sold several million albums since she began her musical career in 1997, has won five Latin Grammys and is just finishing up a new album that should be released in 2013.

Her special Cuban concert will take place on December 3.

García to Direct “We’re Just Married”

Rodrigo García is getting ready to tie the knot with his next feature film…

The 53-year-old Colombian-born television and film director has signed on to direct We’re Just Married.

Written by David Rabe, the film will star the scribe’s daughter, American Horror Story’s Lily Rabe.

“I’m ecstatic to be in the Rabe business with David and Lily,” said Garcia. “This script is a perfect portrait of a highly complicated, emotionally charged and painfully funny romantic triangle. And, like all of David Rabe’s works, it is a gift to writers and directors.”

García, the son of Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, most recently directed Albert Nobbs, which landed stars Glenn Close and Janet McTeer acting Academy Award nominations last year.

He’s also served as a director on HBO’s highly acclaimed dramas Carnivàle. In Treatment and Six Feet Under.

Bejo: From Oscar Nominee to Academy Member

She received her first Oscar nomination earlier this year for her scene-stealing role in The Artist… And now Bérénice Bejo will be helping select future Oscar nominees and winners.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended an invitation to the 35-year-old Argentinean actress to join the organization. Bejo—who has appeared in The Artist, OSS 117 and Cairo, Nest of Spies—is one of the 176 artists and executives to receive an invitation for their distinguished contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

But Bejo isn’t the only Hispanic artist to receive an invitation … Here’s a look at the other Latinos to make the list:

Those who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2012 to the Academy’s roster of members.

New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception in September.
