Ivan Calderon Voted into International Boxing Hall of Fame

Ivan Calderon has entered the Hall…

The 48-year-old Puerto Rican former professional boxer, a two-weight world champion who competed from 2001 to 2012, has been elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Ivan CalderonThe 13-member class was voted by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America and a panel of international boxing historians.

Calderon (35-3-1, 6 KOs) held the WBO mini flyweight title from 2003 to 2007, making eleven successful defenses and being recognized as super champion by the organization. He also held the WBO, Ring magazine, and lineal light flyweight titles from 2007 to 2010 (making six successful defenses).[1] Additionally, his August 2010 bout against Giovani Segura was named fight of the year by Ring magazine.

As an amateur Calderón represented Puerto Rico in international competitions, including the 2000 Olympics.

Diego Corrales, who died two years after winning a 2005 bout voted “Fight of the Year,” is the other member of the Hall’s 2024 class from the men’s modern category.

The enshrinement ceremonies will be June 6-9.

Corrales went 40-5 with 33 KOs and is best remembered for his 2005 victory over Jose Luis Castillo, when he was knocked down twice in the 10th round but then rallied later in the round to stop Castillo.

The former super featherweight and lightweight champion died in 2007 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Ana Maria Torres of Mexico was elected from the women’s modern category. The 43-year-old Mexican former professional boxer competed from 1999 to 2012. She held the WBC female super flyweight title twice between 2007 and 2012, and challenged once for the WBC female bantamweight title in 2006.

Luis Angel Firpo in the old-timer category was also voted into the hall.

The late Argentine boxer was the first Latin American in history to challenge for the world heavyweight title. His bout against Jess Willard set a world record for boxing attendance. And his heavyweight title bout against Jack Dempseywas namedRing Magazine Fight of the Year for 1923.

Cardi B is waxin’ nostalgic…

The 29-year-old Dominican American Grammy-winning rapper and songwriter released a 2-minute video highlighting some of her greatest hits to date, along with a not-so-subtle reminder that even though she was looking back, she’s got her mind firmly set on the future.

Cardi B“Just a little reminder feeling like 2020 when I had to come out and STEP to remind them …..P.S-IM GONNA STOMP THIS TIME AROUND,” she wrote, seemingly referring to the long-awaited follow-up to her smash 2018 full-length debut album, Invasion of Privacy.

The accompanying video blasts out of the gate with the Invasion of Privacy track “Get Up 10” before dipping into  “Drip” featuring Migos, “Money Bag,” her breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow,” “Bickenhead,” the Latin-hop smash “I Like It” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin, “Bartier Cardi,” “Be Careful,” her ballad “Ring,” featuring Kehlani, and then wrapping up with “Thru Your Phone.”

The clip also features bits from the videos for those songs, with Cardi slipping in and out of a series of increasingly elaborate, outrageous outfits during a period when she blew up into one of the biggest hip-hop stars on the planet.

So, what about that new music she’s gonna “stomp?” In May Cardi B jumped on Twitter to address her fans’ complaints that the new music is not coming fast enough.

“I seen a lot of y’all talking sh– like, ‘Oh she doesn’t feed us…,’” she said in a voice note recorded for the Bardi Gang. “So when I put what I’mma put out, I’mma talk more about it because clearly I can’t talk about it now. But I really had technical difficulties with my latest project. I had not one, not two, but like three technical difficulties on the music that I’ve been working on that … had to be done and taken care of before I put it out.”

She did promise that when there is news, her fans will know.

“When things come out, that’s when I’mma talk about it,” she explained. “It’s nothing, like, major or crazy. Yeah, we’ll figure it out ’cause I know, I know, I know, I know you guys want that and I’m gonna give it to ya, OK? OK.”

It’s been more than 4 years since Cardi Vreleased Invasion of Privacy, which went on to become the first female rap album to be nominated for album of the year at the Grammy Awards since 2003 and won the trophy for best rap album.

Meanwhile, her last one-off single was “Up,” which climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 following its February 2021 release.

Cardi B Releases New Music Video for Her Collaboration with Kehlani, “Ring”

Cardi B is ringing in a new music video…

The 25-year-old half-Dominican American rapper and part-Spanish American singer Kehlani keep things super literal in the glossy video for their Invasion of Privacy collaboration “Ring.”

The clip, which debuted on Monday, finds the two divas wrapped up in old-school phone cords and singing/rapping their respective verses inside phone booths and in stark gray rooms while wearing from-fitting black and silver dresses and rocking platinum blonde hair.

The visual for the sultry single from Cardi B’s smash Invasion of Privacy album is the first look from the “Bodak Yellow” rapper since she gave birth to daughter Kulture Kiari on July 10 and it has a definite mid-1990s, sexy future R&B vibe.

Cardi B is slated to make her first public appearance since giving birth on Monday night at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, where she is the top contender with 10 nominations and is slated to appear at the top of the broadcast.
