Fuerza Regida Notches First No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with Grupo Frontera-Collab “Bebe Dame”

The Regional Mexican group continues its good fortune across Billboard’s Latin charts as “Bebe Dame,” with Grupo Frontera, jumps 2-1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated March 18.

“Bebe Dame” rises to the top of Regional Mexican Airplay thanks to a 15% increase in audience impressions, to 9.2 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 9, according to Luminate.

The collaboration was released on December 16 and belongs to Fuerza Regida’s Sigan Hablando album, which earned the five-member ensemble its highest peaking set on Top Latin Albums (No. 2, Jan. 28) and a two-week reign on Regional Mexican Albums.

“Bebe Dame” is the second collaborative effort by Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera, following “911” which reached the top 25 on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart last December.

Back on Regional Mexican Airplay, as “Bebe Dame” leads the 29-year-old ranking, Fuerza Regida secures its first champ. Previously, the San Bernardino, Calif-based group reached the top five through the No. 5-peaking “Sigan Chambeando” in August 2019.

Grupo Frontera, meanwhile, claims its second leader in less than two months. The group replaces itself at No. 1, sending “Que Vuelvas,” with Carin León, to No. 5 following its six-nonconsecutive-week run on top, which began on the Jan. 28-dated list.

Further, “Bebe Dame” holds at No. 2 on Hot Latin Songs for a seventh frame after two weeks atop, despite dips in both streams and digital sales. It also leaps 6-2 on the all-genre Latin Airplay tally, granting Fuerza Regida its first top 10 there. Grupo Frontera picks up its third straight top 10.

The Mexican quintet’s “Eres Ese Algo” rises 3-1 to lead BillboardRegional Mexican Airplay chart dated February 25.

La Maquinaria Norteña“Eres Ese Algo” reaches the summit just six months after La Maquinaria Norteña claimed its first radio No. 1 during its 10-year-plus charting career on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart, which launched with the No. 40 debut and peak of “Ayer y Hoy” in 2011.

Before “Eres Ese Algo,” “50 y Cincuenta” earned the norteño ensemble its maiden champ on any airplay chart last August. In between the band scored a No. 38 high through “Mejor Ni Me La Nombren,” with Neto Bernal (Aug. 27).

“Eres Ese Algo” shoots to No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay in its 14th week on the chart.

It takes the lead boosted by 28% gain in audience impressions, to 10 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending February 16, according to Luminate. The increase secures the track the Greatest Gainer honors of the week.

The song is the second single of Al Derecho y Al Reverso, the seven-track set released on October 14 via Azteca/Fonovisa/UMLE, which reached No. 10 high on Regional Mexican Albums on the January 21-dated ranking.

In addition to bringing La Maquinaria its second airplay No. 1, “Eres Ese Algo” also secures the Azteca label its third ruler on Regional Mexican Airplay, among its 72 chart entries spanning 12 years. Prior to “50 y Cincuenta” and “Eres Ese Algo” by La Maquinaria, Azteca scored its first leader, also last August, through La Fiera de Ojinaga’s “Luna de Miel.”

Beyond its Regional Mexican Airplay coronation, “Eres Ese Algo” ascends the all-genre Latin Airplay list, rallying 10-4, besting La Maquinaria Norteña’s previous peak of No. 9 with “50 y Cincuenta.”

“Eres” was written by Keith Nieto, founding member of the Chihuahua-based band.

Fuerza Regida & Grupo Frontera Both Earn First No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart with “Bebe Dame”

The two Regional Mexican groups are celebrating their respective first No. 1 single on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart as “Bebe Dame,” their second collaboration, powers from 3-1 on the January 21-dated ranking.

“Bebe Dame” rises to the summit in its fourth week on the multi-metric tally — which blends airplay, streaming data and digital sales — with gains across all metrics, and takes home the Greatest Gainer/Sales & Streaming trophy for registering the biggest gains of the week.

Streaming contributes the most to the song’s ranking, with a robust 26% increase, to 14.1 million official U.S. streams earned in the week ending January 12, according to Luminate. The sum yields a 20-11 surge on the all-genre Streaming Songs list and a second week at No. 1 on Latin Streaming Songs.

While sales rise with a 17% gain, to 2,000 downloads in the same period, “Bebe Dame” is pushed down 1-2 on Latin Digital Songs, as Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” debuts atop with a little over 2,000 sales.

Fuerza Regida’s new No. 1 song arrives a week after scoring a dual achievement: the group’s latest albums Pa Que Hablen and Sigan Hablando launched in the top 10 on Top Latin Albums and Regional Mexican Albums charts (dated January 14).

“Bebe Dame” from Sigan Hablando, and which debuted at No. 3 on the same chart week on Hot Latin Songs, earns both Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera its first champ there.

“It was definitely challenging,” JOP adds about working with Grupo Frontera. “We went out of our comfort zone with this track, but the energy, the vibe, was always there. It was recorded in one take!”

Elsewhere, “Bebe Dame” earns Fuerza Regida its first entry on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. Grupo Frontera, meanwhile, secures its highest ranking as the song bows at No. 31.

Further, Grupo Frontera claims its highest ranking on the Global 200 list as “Bebe Dame” jumps 46-22 in its second week. Previously, the group reached a No. 31 high with “No Se Va” in Oct. 2022. On the Global Excl. U.S. chart, the track rockets 102-45 in its second week.

Ivan Cornejo to Launch First-Ever U.S. Tour in January

Ivan Cornejo is readying for his first-ever U.S. tour…

The 18-year-old Mexican American Regional Mexican singer-songwriter hitting the road in 2023, with a tour scheduled to kick off on January 31 in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Ivan Cornejo, Cornejo, who won best new artist at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, will headline the 11-date stint, titled Dañado Tour. He is slated to perform in Latin markets like Los Angeles, Houston and Phoenix, before wrapping up in Dallas on February 17.

“I am super excited to go on my first tour,” Cornejo tells Billboard. “We made sure to put a lot of thought into all the details. We wanted intimate venues because now more than ever, the connection to the fans is super important.”

Richard Vega, the WME agent who signed Cornejo in all areas, adds, “We feel very proud to represent such a young rising star. His fans have been wanting to see him live for a while and the response from all our partners has been amazing. This will be the first of many.”

Being produced by local promoters was key to making this happen, points out Ximena Acosta, the strategy consultant on the project. “We went with local promoters in each market [because] we wanted to make sure we had the right partners who really understood him and his fan base,” Acosta says.

Cornejo, who broke out in 2021 with his first album, Alma Vacía, has been making a name for himself in the Mexican music space and beyond (he’s collaborated with urban act JhayCo).

He secured his first entrance on any Billboard chart with his debut album, released through Manzana Records, which arrived at No. 2 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart. On Top Latin Albums, the seven-track set, featuring sad sierreño anthems like “Está Dañada,” peaked at No. 7.

Additionally, Cornejo topped Billboard‘s Latin Songwriters chart dated October 30, 2021.

Subsequently, over the summer, the singer-songwriter scored his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart as his sophomore album, Dañado, debuted atop the chart dated June 18.

Tickets to Cornejo’s tour go on sale Monday (Nov. 7).

Yahritza y Su Esencia Sign Label Deal with Columbia Records

The Mexican American group, comprised of 15-year singer-songwriter Yahritza Martinez and her brothers Armando (guitar) and Jairo (bass), has signed a label deal with Columbia Records.

The sierreño band is currently managed by their older sister, Adriana Martinez.

In April, Yahritza y Su Esencia made chart history with their heartbreak track “Soy El Unico” as the youngest Latin performer to enter the Billboard Hot 100 debuting at No. 20. Since then, major Latin and mainstream record labels had expressed interest in signing the regional Mexican act.

“Lumbre is really happy to partner with Columbia Records for Yaritza y Su Esencia. It speaks volumes for an American-Mexican indie label like us to work hand in hand with a major label,” says Ramon Ruiz, CEO of Lumbre Music. “We have been working hard to develop and really get the kids’ music out to the masses and we have done some great work with them, including their first diamond certification, but are so excited to take them to the next level. We are all so passionate about this project it was important that whoever came into the project felt that same passion, and both the artists and Lumbre felt that with Columbia from the get-go. It felt like the right choice. Great things are coming for Yahritza Y Su Esencia!”

Yahritza y Su Esencia, up for best new artist at the 2022 Latin Grammys, broke out on TikTok earlier this year after they uploaded covers and quickly created a zealous fan base.

In March, after being discovered by Lumbre Music on the platform’s For You Page, they released their first single, “Soy El Único,” which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

Since, they scored their first No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart with their debut album, Obsessed, released in May.

Elsewhere, the five-track set debuted at No. 7 on Top Latin Albums, and it also entered the all-genre Billboard 200 at No. 173.

Banda Los Recoditos Earns Seventh No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with “Fuerte No Soy”

The Mexican Banda group has claimed its seventh No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart as their single “Fuerte No Soy” leads the list dated October 15.

“Fuerte No Soy” pushes to No. 1 thanks to a 21% boost in audience impressions, to 7.1 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending October 9, according to Luminate.

“Fuerte No Soy” was written by Ricky Muñoz and Marco A. Pérez over two decades ago and released by Intocable as a norteño track via Capitol Latin. In addition to scoring a No. 13 high on Regional Mexican Airplay in 2000, the track was part of Intocable’s Contigo album, which crowned Regional Mexican Albums for two weeks in 1999.

Banda Los Recoditos’ cover of “Fuerte No Soy,” a ranchera, was released via El Recodo/ Fonovisa/UMLE on July 8. It lands at the summit in its ninth week and evicts Gerardo Ortiz’s “Modo Crudo” which falls to No. 13 after one week in charge (3.4 million in audience, down 52%).

“Fuerte No Soy” gives Los Recoditos their seventh champ within 29 chart appearances. The band’s second offering, “Ando Bien Pedo,” ruled for 12 weeks in 2010.

Further, “Fuerte No Soy” hits No. 1 just sixth months after the band’s last entry, “Me Siento a Todo Dar,” topped the chart for one week.

Elsewhere, the song makes progress on the all-genre Latin Airplay chart, advancing 12-8. It earns the band its 13th top 10 there.

Selena Quintanilla’s “Moonchild Mixes” Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums Chart

Moonchild Mixes, the new posthumous album by the late Mexican American singer, known as la Reina de la Musica Tejana, has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart dated September 10.

Selena QuintanillaIt also debuts at No. 2 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart and No. 8 on the all-Latin-encompassing Top Latin Albums chart with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the August 26-September 1 tracking week, according to Luminate. 

The album earns the late icon her seventh No. 1 on Latin Pop Albums, tying Shakira and Thalia for the most among women.

The album also helps Selena extend her record for the most total weeks spent atop the chart. All seven of her No. 1 albums have spent a combined 173 weeks at No. 1 — Enrique Iglesias trails with the second-most, at 130 weeks.

The set also earns Selena her 18th top 10 on Regional Mexican Albums, the third-most among soloists after Vicente Fernandez (49) and Joan Sebastian (31).

On Top Latin Albums, the LP earns Selena her 16th top 10 album, extending her record for the most among women. Marco Antonio Solis and Vicente Fernandez lead all acts with 25 top 10 albums apiece.

Moonchild Mixes includes 10 previously unreleased songs by the superstar, who died in 1995 at age 23. She recorded the tracks between the ages of 13 and 16. In a recent interview with Billboard, her father Abraham Quintanilla Jr. said releasing the album is a way to keep her memory and legacy alive.

“We as a family had discussed this amongst ourselves that in the future, after Selena’s passing, we were going to maintain her presence through her music and we’ve done that for 27 years. I’m more than sure that the fans are going to love it because if you listen to it, it’ll move you emotionally and take you back to as if Selena was recording it this morning.”

Yahritza y Su Esencia Sign Worldwide Deal with SESAC Latina

The 15-year-old Mexican singer and her siblings Jairo and Armando Martinez, best known by their group name Yahritza y Su Esencia, have signed a worldwide deal with SESAC Latina.

“We are very excited to welcome Yahritza y Su Esencia to the SESAC Latina family,” Celeste Zendejas, vice president, SESAC Latina, said in a statement. “Their debut single premiered at number one on the Hot Latin Songs Billboard chart, and they are growing into a cultural phenomenon in the Mexican genre. We are honored to be part of their continued success.”

To mark the beginning of their new deal with the performance-rights organization, Yahritza Y Su Esencia — who are signed to indie label Lumbre Music — took the stage to perform “Enamorado” and “Soy El Único” during the 2022 SESAC Latina Music ceremony on June 29.

Earlier this year, the self-taught musicians made history with the sad sierreño anthem “Soy El Unico” as the track scored a No. 20 entry on the Billboard Hot 100, making lead singer Yahritza the youngest Latin performer to enter the all-genre tally.

Additionally, “Soy El Único,” penned by Yahritza at age 13, debuted at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart dated April 9.

“I don’t write my songs specifically for anyone. I just observe what’s going on around me and I get ideas from it,” she previously told Billboard.

In April, the group — which hails from Yakima, Wash. — dropped their five-track EP, Obsessed, which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Regional Mexican Albums chart. According to a press release, Yahritza Y Su Esencia is currently working on a full album, set to drop “later this year.”

Ivan Cornejo Scores First No. 1 on Regional Mexican Albums Chart with “Dañado”

The 18-year-old Mexican American singer has secured his first chart-topper on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart as his sophomore album, Dañado, debuts atop the chart dated June 18.

The seven-track set arrives just eight months after Cornejo scored his first entry with the No. 2 debut and peaking album Alma Vacía (6,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week in the U.S., according to Luminate).

Dañado bests its predecessor with 8,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the latest tracking week ending June 9. As with most releases by Regional Mexican newcomers, streaming provides most of the album’s opening sum. That equates to 11.9 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks.

The Regional Mexican Albums chart ranks the most popular regional Mexican albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, comprising album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

Cornejo gives Manzana Records its first No. 1 on any Billboard albums chart. Dañado is the Riverside, Calif.-born singer-songwriter’s second effort under Manzana, which was released June 2. Alma Vacía, his debut album, remained in the Regional Mexican Albums chart’s top 10 during its 35-week run.

Elsewhere, Dañado opens at No. 4 on the overall-Latin Top Latin Albums chart. It concurrently succeeds Alma Vacía, which reached No. 7 in October 2021. The set becomes just the fourth Regional Mexican album to debut in the ranking’s top 10 in 2022, behind Junior H’s Mi Vida En Un Cigarro 2 (No. 4, Feb. 26-dated tally), Yahritza y Su Esencia’s Obsessed (EP) (No. 7, May 7-dated ranking) and Eslabon Armado’s Nostalgia (No. 2, recap dated May 21).

Dañado grants Cornejo his second entry on the all-genre Billboard 200, starting at No. 149. It also bests Alma Vacía’s start (No. 156, Oct. 23). Cornejo becomes the fourth act to secure an entry there in 2022, trailing Junior H, Yahritza y Su Esencia and Eslabon Armado.

Dañado also becomes the eighth Spanish-language effort to debut on Billboard 200 this year. Here’s the scoreboard:

Junior H to Bring $ad Boyz 4 Life Tour to the U.S.

Junior H is bringing the sadness stateside…

The 22-year-old Mexican singer, songwriter and guitarist will hit the road this summer for his $ad Boyz 4 Life tour.

Junior HThe Live Nation-produced trek is set to kick off on August 19 in Miami’s FPL Solar Amphitheater with stops in key U.S. cities such as New York, Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago.

The 21-date stint will wrap up on December 18 in Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.

The tour is named after his 2021 chart-topping album $ad Boyz 4 Life, via Rancho Humilde, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart dated Feb. 27, 2021, then securing the urban corridos and sad sierreño act his second leader and fourth straight top five on the tally.

“It’s an album that has really impacted my career and to see that it’s become a movement well that makes me feel so much joy,” says Junior H. “The vibes for this tour will be super chill, we’ll be celebrating and people will get to enjoy my corridos. There will also be a lot of love for the morritas.”

“We are thrilled to be the first to bring Junior H to stages around the U.S.,” said Jorge García, tour promoter at Live Nation. “We are proud of the relationship we’ve built with Rancho Humilde and strive to give talented artists like Junior H the opportunity to connect with loyal fans while reaching new audiences.”
