The Gipsy Kings 30-Year-Old Hit “Bamboleo” Returns to the Charts After “Sing” Showcase

The Gipsy Kings are bamboleo-ing their way back onto the charts…

The flamenco, salsa and pop musicians have seen their iconic song “Bamboleo” get a new lease on life, thanks to the animated film Sing.

Gipsy Kings

Sales of the Gipsy Kings’ 30-year-old worldwide hit, which was released in 1987, spiked 165% in the week ending December 29, with the song re-entering the digital sales chart this week at number 23.

“You can’t just sing,” the Lycra-clad German-accented pig Gunter (Nick Kroll) tells his porcine singing partner Rosita, a desperate housewife voiced by Reese Witherspoon, in the jubilent music-filled movie about a scrappy singing competition. “You’ve got to show the fire and desire.”

Rosita’s “aha” moment arrives when she hears “Bamboleo” in the supermarket and breaks into a full-on ballroom flamenco routine in the aisles, making maracas out of salt and pepper shakers and leaping over piles of produce.

In December, Olympic gold medalist and Dancing with the Stars champion Laurie Hernandez recreated the scene in a real-life grocery store.

“Bamboleo,” first heard as the opening track of the Gipsy Kings’ self-titled album in 1988, was the group’s debut chart hit, reaching the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs in early 1989, and spending 23 total weeks on the chart. To date, the track has sold 248,000 downloads, according to Nieslen Music.

For the week ending Dec. 22, just after Sing’s release in theaters, “Bamboleo” was up 59 percent in streams to 154,000 weekly U.S. streams.

Hernandez Recreates Grocery Store Dance Scene from “Sing”

Laurie Hernandez has aisles of style when it comes to her dance moves…

The 16-year-old Puerto Rican Olympic gold medalist and Dancing with the Stars champion recreated one of her favorite scenes from the upcoming animated movie Sing.

In the video, Hernandez dances her way through the grocery store while the Gypsy Kings flamenco classic “Bamboleo” blasts on the speakers, recreating Rosita’s (Reese Witherspoon) dance routine in the film set to debut on December 21.

“Was so excited about Sing, I couldn’t help recreating one of my favorite scenes,” Hernandez wrote on Twitter.

Her DWTS partner Val Chmerkovskiy also makes a cameo in the fun clip.

Kelley to Star in NBC’s Cruel Intentions-Revival Pilot

Nathalie Kelley has some cruel intentions…

The 30-year-old Peruvian-Argentine American actress has landed a series regular role on NBC’s Cruel Intentions revival pilot, according to Variety.

Nathalie Kelley

Kelley joins a growing cast that includes original star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil in the potential series.

Kelley will play Carmen, the stunning chief of staff for Kathryn and her husband Pascal. She lives in their mansion, along with her teenage brother.

Cruel Intentions kicks off 15 years after the film ended, revolving around Kathryn (Gellar), as she vies for control of Valmont International, as well as the soul of Bash Casey (newcomer Taylor John Smith), the son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (the character that was played by Ryan Phillippe in the ’90s film) and Annette Hargrove (the character played by Reese Witherspoon). Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined.

Best known for her season-long starring role in Lifetime’s UnReal, Kelley is also known for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and a long arc on Body of Proof.

Cruel Intentions marks Kelley’s second movie-turned-TV-series reboot this season, as she was cast in a leading role in Fox’s Urban Cowboy project, which was also in contention for 2016-17, but was abruptly scrapped.

NBC’s Cruel Intentions was co-written by the movie’s original writer/director Roger Kumble, Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross. Kumble will direct the pilot for Sony Pictures Television.

Vergara Ties the Knot with Joe Manganiello in Dream Wedding

Sofia Vergara is officially Mrs. Manganiello.

The Colombian actress married actor Joe Manganiello at a Florida tourist resort on Sunday night, while surrounded by friends and family.

Sofia Vergara & Joe Manganiello Wedding

The wedding ceremony started at 7:00 p.m. and was attended by celebrities, including Reese Witherspoon, Channing Tatum, Roselyn Sanchez, Arnold Schwarzenegger and producer Harvey Weinstein, according to CBS News. Vergara walked down the aisle, dressed in a white long-trail gown and donning Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, hand in hand with son Manolo, while Manganiello wore a John Varvatos tuxedo for his big day. Vergara, the best paid U.S. television actress according to Forbes magazine, shared photos from the event on Instagram, which showed the décor by celebrity floral artist and artistic director of the Four Seasons George V Hotel, Jeff Leatham.

We have all heard that it is bad luck for the groom to see bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony. The truth is that a longer standing tradition says that it is bad luck for the bride to wear the complete wedding outfit before the day that she takes her wedding vows. That is why you almost never see a bride trying on a wedding dress with her wedding shoes, veil and so on. A female college friend of mine knew a young girl who decided to ignore that tradition and display her complete wedding outfit to her bridal party for the purpose of having “some photos taken with her friends” the night before her wedding. So she said, most of those present think she was just showing off. The dress seemed unusually tight to some who saw the bride all decked out that night and soon gossiping tongues spread the news quickly. The next day the groom decided not to show up for the ceremony after my college friend said that she called and told him that his bride looked “fat or pregnant” when she saw the bride in her outfit the night before. My friend was not being mean, but she felt sorry for the groom who had gone out of his way to keep his bride pure (she had claimed to be a virgin) by abstaining from sex with her. He had never seen her in the wedding dress, but even his sister said that she noticed an unusually rapid weight gain in the bride who was not one known to fluctuate in her weight or overeat. There could have been a lot more to the story than that, but I have no doubt that the catalyst for the groom’s cancellation was that phone call from my friend and the call would never had been made if the bride had not been showing off and scoffing at a long-standing tradition. Smoky Mountains wedding locations At the Enchanted Valley Barn, not a day goes by where we are not reminded of our heritage. Leatham created a dream aisle for the actor with white roses and yellow candles at The Breakers, on Palm Beach, the venue of the ceremony that was attended by 400 guests.

To safeguard privacy, organizers requested guests to leave their personal cameras and cell phones in a secure area at the venue entrance. The wedding was the culmination of celebrations over the weekend, which included a pool party at the hotel and a “rehearsal dinner” at Cafe Bouluden in The Brazilian Court Hotel. Post-dinner, the bride, the groom and the guests returned to The Breakers for a party, which went on until two in the morning where Manganiello sang Guns ‘N Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” much to the surprise of the new bride, according to People magazine.

The marriage is Manganiello’s first, and Vergara’s second. She was previously married to Jose Luis Gonzalez from whom she has a son, 23-year-old Manolo.

Vergara and Manganiello officially began dating in July 2014 and got engaged in Hawaii six months later in December.
