Angel Morales & The Village People to Perform at BottleRock Napa Valley

Angel Morales is ready to (bottle)rock….

The Latino singer and his fellow Village People are set to perform at this year’s BottleRock festival, taking place from May 22-24 at the Napa Valley Expo.

The 1970s legends join a lineup, one of the strongest and most diverse music-centric programming slates in Bottle Rock’s eight-year history, that includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Dave Matthews Band, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Khalidand Anderson .Paakand the Free Nationals.

“It’s the deepest lineup that we have ever had,” Dave Graham, chief executive of BottleRock Napa Valleytells Billboard. “No matter how you want to measure it, whether it’s ticket sales, per band, the depth of the talent on the seventh or eighth lines of the lineup or on money spent, it’s our strongest lineup to date.

“It’s important to us to have something for everyone, and the decision to have classic hip hop on the lineup was a no brainer — I know every Eric B.& Rakim song by heart,” Graham says. “And then when you see Maren Morrisand Zedd on the lineup, who together had one of the biggest songs on the planet with ‘The Middle,’ we feel this lineup represents the best of what is happening in music right now.”

BottleRock also features the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage, showcasing a unique mashup of cooking demonstrations with renowned chefs, celebrities, performers and rock stars. Details will be announced at a later date.

Dave Navarro Signs Deal with Primary Wave Music Publishing

Dave Navarro has a new deal…

Primary Wave Music Publishing has acquired a stake in the 52-year-old half-Mexican American singer-songwriter-guitarist’s publishing catalog, master revenue streams and writer’s share royalties.

The worldwide publishing deal also includes a co-publishing agreement for Navarro’s future output.

“When I partnered up with Primary Wave, the first question they asked was, ‘So, where would you like to see your music being heard?’ I had never before been asked for my artistic input from a corporate entity and I was instantly relieved to know that I had finally found a home for my catalog,” said Navarro in a statement. “This was something new and fresh. In addition to this being a team partnership, Primary Wave utilizes its resources to put my music in front of ears that would have otherwise never heard it. They protect their artists and their catalog.”

Navarro is a member of Jane’s Addictionand a former member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who he played with from 1993 to 1998.

The Primary Wave deal includes such Navarro-penned songs as “Been Caught Stealing” and “Jane Says” (with Jane’s Addiction) and “Aeroplane” (with Red Hot Chili Peppers). He has additionally released two solo records, including the 2001 album Trust No One.

“We are honored to have a legendary artist such as Dave join our growing Primary Wave family,” added Primary Wave CEO and founder Lawrence Mestel. “Dave’s accomplishments speak for themselves. His contributions to Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers left an indelible impression, influencing future generations of musicians.”

Founded in 2006, Primary Wave is a full-service music company that has acquired copyrights to over 15,000 songs from legendary artists like John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Whitney Houston, Smokey Robinson, Aerosmith and Bob Marley.

Ricky Martin to Perform Alongside Camila Cabello at This Year’s Grammys

The Recording Academy has announced that the 47-year-old Puerto Rican superstar will take the stage during this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony.

Martin, a two-time Grammy winner, will join Camila Cabelloduring her show opening number.

In addition to Martin, J Balvin, Young Thugand Arturo Sandovalare also expected to appear alongside Cabello, a two-time nominee this year.

Additionally, the show will feature a special tribute to eight-time Grammywinner, Dolly Parton, who will also take to the stage for the first time in 18 years to perform her new music.

Set to perform the iconic country star’s classic hits will be Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Little Big Townand Maren Morris. Parton will then take center stage to sing her latest tunes from her 2018 album, Dumplin’ — the soundtrack to Netflix’s original motion picture by the same name starring Jennifer Aniston.

Previously announced artists performing during the biggest night in music include Cardi B, Dan + Shay, H.E.R., Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe,Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Diana Ross.

Hosted by Alicia Keys, the 61st Annual Grammy Awards will take place live from the Staples Center on Sunday, February 10 at 8:00 pm ET, and will be broadcast live on CBS.

Trujillo & His Metallica Bandmates Notch Ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs Chart

Robert Trujillo is feeling the Rise…

The 52-year-old Mexican American musician and his Metallica bandmates have notched their ninth No. 1 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, as “Atlas, Rise!,” the third single from Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, rises 2-1 on the list dated February 18.

The song is Metallica’s second No. 1 from the album, following “Hardwired” (October 8, 2016). The band also scored two chart-toppers apiece from two prior LPs: The group’s last studio set, 2008’s Death Magnetic (“The Day That Never Comes,” “Cyanide“), and 1996’s Load (“Until It Sleeps,” “Hero of the Day“).

With its ninth overall Mainstream Rock Songs No. 1, Metallica is in a tie for fifth place among all acts for the most leaders since the chart launched in 1981. The new No. 1 ties the quartet with Aerosmith, while Van Halen leads with 13 toppers.

All three singles from Hardwired have made the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. In between leaders “Hardwired” and “Atlas,” “Moth Into Flame” reached No. 5 in November; between Nov. 19 and Jan. 14, all three songs charted simultaneously. The set opened as Metallica’s sixth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (Dec. 10).

“Atlas” concurrently reaches a new peak (14-12) on the genre-encompassing Rock Airplay chart (5.2 million audience impressions, up 7 percent, according to Nielsen Music). The rank is Metallica’s best on the survey, which began in 2009; “Hardwired” previously led with a No. 13 peak.

Carey Performs “All I Want for Christmas” on James Corden’s Holiday-Themed “Carpool Karaoke” Segment

Mariah Carey is Carpooling for Christmas…

Late Late Show host James Corden pulled out all the stops for his latest installment of Carpool Karaoke, a rousing rendition of the half-Venezuelan American singer’s holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas,” kicked off by the diva herself.

It all starts with Carey and Corden belting out the insta-classic holiday single as they drive around town. Then, several past A-list Carpool Karaoke guests chime in in through video cuts, including Lady Gaga, Adele, Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, Elton John, Selena Gomez, Chris Martin, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Gwen Stefani.

It’s Carey’s second appearance on Corden’s popular “Carpool Karaoke” segment.

Mars’ Super Bowl Halftime Performance Features Three of Shazam’s Most Searched Moments

Shazam! Bruno Mars’ halftime performance at the Super Bowl continues to help break records…

Not only did the 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer’s performance with the Red Hot Chili Peppers register a record 115.3 million viewers and earn a huge response on the Twittersphere, but it was one of the moments during the big game that nabbed the most Shazams.

The music search app beat its own Super Bowl record with more than 700,000 uses — more than double the count of last year’s game that featured Beyonce and Destiny’s Child as its halftime performers.

Despite all the music-related ads that aired throughout the broadcast, more than half of the Shazams occurred during Mars’ halftime performance. The top searched moment of the entire game was when the Red Hot Chili Peppers emerged shirtless and rocked the stage with on the band’s hit song”Give It Away,” followed by Mars’ first solo hit, “Just The Way You Are,” with which he closed the halftime show, along with a ton of fireworks.

Coming in third in Shazam’s statistics was Chevrolet’s “Life” ad, a sentimental spot that featured the song “Don’t Leave” by Ane Brun.

Fourth place belongs to Jaguar‘s “Rendezvous” ad, with appearances by Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston and Mark Strong and using an epic action-film score.

Rounding out the top five was Mars’ “Runaway Baby” performance, which pulls from Barry Strong‘s 1960 hit “Money (That’s What I Want).”

Following Chevrolet and Jaguar in the top Shazamed Super Bowl ads were Bud Light‘s “Cool Twist,” Bank of America‘s ad which debuted the new single “Invisible” by U2, and Budweiser‘s moving military homecoming, “A Hero’s Welcome.”

Bruno Mars’ Super Bowl Halftime Show Attracts a Record 115.3 Million Viewers

Move over Madonna! Bruno Mars is the king of Super Bowl entertainers…

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter’s halftime show, featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers, attracted the largest audience in the history of the Super Bowl, attracting 115.3 million viewers, Fox announced Monday, citing Nielsen data.

That figure surpasses the previous record of 114 million set by Madonna two years ago and the 110.8 million who tuned in to watch Beyonce last year.

During his high-octane perforamance, which was a much-tweeted-about affair, Mars sang “Give it Away” with the Peppers, proved he’s got the moves like James Brown and closed with his hit ballad “Just the Way You Are” at halfway mark of a blowout win by the Seattle Seahawks over the Denver Broncos, 43-8. The game had an average viewing audience of 111.5 million viewers, the largest in history.

The final number was significantly higher than than 98.88 million viewers reported in the overnight ratings from Nielsen that measure the top 56 markets. It initially appeared Super Bowl XLVIII would be the fifth most-watched in history.

Mars’ Super Bowl Halftime Scores Rave Reviews on Social Media

The Seattle Seahawks may be this year’s Super Bowl champions… But Bruno Mars is the night’s Twitter darling.

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer’s electrifying halftime show not only proved that Mars is a music superstar; it also generated an out of this world (pun intended) response on social media from a worldwide audience.

Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers generated 2.2 million tweets during their 12-minute show, including rave reviews from fellow musicians like Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks.

“The whole ‪#halftimeshow was pretty awesome! Well done ‪@BrunoMars,” tweeted Underwood, who sang a memorable rendition of the National Anthem at the 2010 Super Bowl.

“Entrance on drums, James brown, chili peppers, I loved that whole thing,” said actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, while Gavin DeGraw said Mars “tore up that halftime performance.”

Meanwhile, Sparks tweeted that she got chills when Mars broke out James Brown’s signature dance moves.

Mars Gives Electrifying Performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Bruno Mars has officially cemented his status as a music superstar after taking one of the world’s biggest stages by storm…

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter and his band The Hooligans rocked the stage during the halftime show at the 2014 Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, February 2, with special guest the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Dressed in a gold lame jacket, black skinny tie and white button-down shirt, the pompadoured Grammy-winning singer offered viewers the perfect blend of old school showmanship with rock star flash to give an oh-so-memorable performance at MetLife Stadium.

Following an introduction that featured a children’s choir singing a snippet of Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire,” which Mars co-wrote and appears on as a guest vocalist, the singer born Peter Gene Hernandez made his first appearance behind the drums for an impressive drum solo.

Mars, joined by his Hooligans, then moved to the mic to sing and bust a move to his smash hits “Locked Out of Heaven,” “Treasure” and “Runaway Baby,” which featured a snippet of the Isley Brothers’ “Shout!”

Mars then performed a smoldering rendition of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Give It Away” with the legendary rock band by his side. Despite the frigid temperatures, Anthony Kiedis and Flea managed to rock out shirtless.

After a brief montage of soldiers sending a little love home to the States, Mars ended his stellar halftime show with the tender piano ballad “Just the Way You Are,” which was punctuated by fireworks.

“It Just Got Real,” Declares Mars at His Super Bowl Press Conference

Ready or not, Bruno Mars is about to take the biggest stage of his career this Super Bowl Sunday.

“I’ve never had to do a press conference before I perform, so it just got real, I guess!” joked the 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer at a Super Bowl press conference at Lincoln Center‘s Rose Theater in New York City.

Asked by Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams, reporting for omg! Insider, how he felt about accepting the invitation to headline the halftime show, Mars responded, “We were all watching you as a band last year when you performed with Beyonce, and we were wondering just like, ‘What if one day we get the call to do that?'” he said, later noting that his favorite halftime acts to date also include Prince, Michael Jackson and Bruce Springsteen. “It definitely came soon.”

Mars noted that he began rehearsing two nights ago, and was faced with the reality of the brutal cold in New Jersey and New York.

“There was a lot of things that happened — the microphone turns into a popsicle!” he explained. I’m grabbing the mic and it’s frozen! Just stuff like that that we’re taking into consideration, and getting some heaters on everything.”

But how will he keep his signature hairdo intact? “I got three gallons of hairspray in this thing, so I’m good!”

While he won’t be giving away any secrets about his set list — “It’s only a couple days away, they can hold tight,” he told reporters — Mars will stay true to his usual laid-back big-band aesthetic. “No matter where I perform, it’s my job to uplift the people — whether I’m performing at a graduation party, wedding, bar mitzvah, Grammys, Super Bowl, I’m gonna give it all I got,” he said of the gig. “I don’t trapeze and all that stuff. I hope to get people dancing and get people smiling. If you ever come to my shows, it’s just us up there with these songs and our instruments. I hope that’s enough.”

Mars also explained how he chose his co-performers. “The first band I thought of was the Red Hot Chili Peppers — I’ve been a fan of theirs for such a long time, I admire their career,” he recalled when the NFL presented him with the opportunity. “They’re a soulful band — and not just musically, but as people. I sat down with Flea, and he’s so passionate about music. Even to this day, doing it for so long, he’s still so passionate about creating music and performing. I want to surround myself with guys like that forever, and it’s an honor to share the stage with them. They’re one of my personal favorite bands of all time.”

He thanked the NFL for the rare chance to headline the televised event. “I still feel like a new artist — the NFL is such a prestigious stage, and they’re giving the new guy a shot. No, I haven’t been able to take it in, but I will. Come Sunday, I will.”
